Is it just me? There seems to be a lot less points for rent!

But I can still request a transfer correct ?

Nope, not if you don't meet the 50 posts over 6 months criteria. A transfer request was what I was recently looking for but was denied.

There is no question it is because of the new rules. I think an activity requirement can be a good thing, I just think it was set much too high. Many people are not active posters even though they have been members of this site for many, many years. The bar was just set way too high, and it will be the end of the R/T board.

I just found out about this last night after I tried to post to the rent/trade board. I'm thinking, "Seriously!?!" I have been on here consistently for the last five years but because I spent some time away in the last six months I am now possibly a dishonest person? Even though I've done only successful renting transactions in the past?

I am just a person who reads more than I post so now I have to "make up" posts to meet the rules. The bar is way too high. It makes me angry:mad:

Okay, I read through this whole thread and now I am not angry anymore. UConnJack made me smile:)

I figured out what I need to do but I won't waste my time telling it here because it doesn't count toward post totals. Just kidding.

I just need to come to the Disboards 2-3 times per week and instead of just reading like I normally do, I will post deep, philosophical questions about Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse:flower3:

Then, voila! Back in business:wizard:

I think a lot of the decrease is due to the new board rules.

I know for me it was the new rules. I read these boards daily, and have for more than 10 years, but I just don't post a lot. I recently had some expiring points that I needed to unload, but I couldn't put them on the rent/trade board because I haven't had 50 posts in the last 6 months. I understand - rules are rules.

I have always used all my points and have rented points from here to add a few extra days on to our vacation etc

Just last week I wanted to post an ad to rent or transfer some of my points as something had come up this year.

I was denied!

That was so disappointing, considering I have been a member since 2004 and have over 970 posts. Which I believe is more substantial than 50 posts over the 6 months.

:confused::confused:

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I've used the rent-trade site to rent out my points a few times, but there seem to be some new restrictions since last summer that have all but killed that site.

I've tried to find out why this was done, but don't seem to get real answers.
Does anyone know why the restrictions were instituted and DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE ELSE YOU CAN GO TO RENT OUT YOUR POINTS if you can't use them? I know from the rent/trade site that "Dave's" will rent them from me, but he marks them up 30% which seems expensive for me and for the renter.

Of course, I could sell them, but I think I'll want to use them again when times get better. We've really loved Disney. We just can't go again this year.

Please help if you can. Thanks, Disneybear

The Rent/Trade rules are posted in the thread. They did change the rules to require 50 posts over 6 months as evidence of being an active member. It has definitely reduced the number of people posting points for rent.

Good or bad decision is hard to say. Trying to protect members is great, but I also understand there are some long time members and users here who would love to rent points and now can't. Someone did have the valid comment that they're more active on the boards when planning a trip and if you're renting out your points, you're probably not planning a trip.

My opinion is they've gotten a bit too restrictive, but we've never wanted to rent our points so hasn't been an issue.

Dave's isn't too bad. you get $10 per point which isn't far from the $11 or so average on the R/T board.

Apparently this is quite a sensitive issue as I got sent for a timeout for making observations. My intention was not to offend, and rereading my post (now deleted) it wasn't offensive in my opinion.

But, whatever.

I also got the thumbs down.

I got an "official warning" for just asking about the general availability during a general time period. Apparently this was seen as an attempt to circumvent the rent/trade board restrictions by soliciting, which certainly was not what I was doing. Needless to say I was offended.

So not only is the rent/trade board kaput, but the subject of rentals really is now off limits on all boards.

Don't waste your time trying to figure out "why"...don't make any references to specific commercial renters...

I wish people who could do something about this would take a look at how unpopular this new rule is among long time DISers and DVC members. Doesn't that make a difference?

That would be nice, but it has been falling on deaf ears. All we can do is try to work within the current rules and keep voicing our opinions on them. Just be careful about who or what you criticize, they don't put up with too much dissent here.

...this is not a democracy...nor is it open for discussion (at this time)...basically there are other sites but I think some really are a free for all...I would demand an agreement if I was a renter...

No, the DIS not a democracy, never claimed it was or should be. But it is a buisness, and the members are essentially the customers. I know those of us taking issue with this rule are very few relative to all those across the DIS, and we really don't mean much in the grand scheme of things here, but that doesn't mean we don't have the right as customers to complain. Of course, the DIS has every right to dismiss us, ignore us, and/or kick people out as they see fit, but I personally think that it's bad buisness.

There is definitely a new attitude concerning the management of the Dis Boards. I now spend significantly more time on other Disney forum boards. I never even considered doing this before the news rules. I haven't rented that much so it really doesn't matter to me, but the unfriendly attitude has driven me to other sites. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
