Is it even possible anymore...?

OP, I'm with you. We feel the same way. As others have said, it kind of depends on your approach and expectations. It also depends how much time you can devote to hunting down the cancelations of others, or how willing you are to compromise on the times.

Our trips have changed. We don't do nearly as many ADR's as we used to do, and that helps. We've also opened ourselves up to spending more time off WDW property. On arrival day, if you want a nice meal without all the hassle of an ADR, try McCoy's at MCO. The food quality is far better than any comparably priced meal at WDW.

You should also look into spending some time onsite at Universal at one of the three deluxe hotels. Universal still lets guests dine when they want, while enjoying the flexibility of Express Passes, reliable transportation, and quality service. If you haven't been, the HP areas are great. Walking into Diagon Alley is like stepping into the movie. The level of detail is amazing. The wands are a bit pricey, but they are fantastic for young HP fans, especially those who are chosen during the show in Olivanders. Like Disney's hidden Mickey's, it is easy to walk right past the small details without seeing them. HP reminds me of the way WDW used to be; it pays to appreciate the details!

We also keep the cost and restrictions down by exploring beyond Orlando. Florida has many beautiful parks and beaches.
