Is every Yankee in the nation moving to NC?

I have no desire to ever move to NC. I also have no desire to live here. Too bad Florida is full or I'd head there.

It's the excitement of the new NASCAR Hall of Fame. We Yanks are nuts for stock car racing.

I thought all Yankees were into bowling! :teeth:

I know many people moved to NC from Long Island, because it's too da--
expensive to live here!
People are selling their small cape cod houses, and buying a house 4 times bigger and still pocketing $100,000.

I know many of us here in MA are leaving because of the outrageous home prices and cost of living. We are waiting until my 13 year old graduates, and then we'll be out of here too! :teeth:

My sister's in-laws just moved to NC, and she and her husband are planning to move there this year too. The main draw for them is lower cost of living, not as cold, yet still not too hot, and even though it's a southern state, it's still not so far south that there's too much of a culture shock.

She's trying to convince us to go to NC too, but Montana is calling our name :)

All about money. So many people I know want to retire out of the northeast the first chance they get. The taxes and real estate are out of the world around here. Everyone thinks the South is absolutely perfect and wants to go! My joke is soon there will be no one older than 50 living in my area, as everyone moves South when they hit a certain age. Around my area, most houses nowadays are bought by familiies with a thirty-something father and mother, with two small kids, who are transferred here with the father's company, who live here about two years, then are transferred away and we never see them again. Same pattern over and over. It's getting rare to meet people who lived here more than three years! Very few old-timers stick around. :(

I personally like living in the North East, but I may be forced to move South because of prices, but not for a long while, I hope! :)

NO WAY...speak for yourself :rotfl2:

Well, some of them came to Florida first and are now going to NC because it's becoming too darn crowded here. We call them "halfbacks" because they're moving halfway back to their original states.

Not to be the bearer of more bad news, but most everyone I know in Florida, that can afford it, has already purchased property in NC/SC/Georgia mountains to retire to. These are mostly Baby Boomers who are looking to get out of here because of increased population and higher home values.

Sorry! :rolleyes2

Some of us North Carolinians who can HEAR the cars from our homes are NOT nuts about NASCAR either. My only real interest in NASCAR has to do with the effect it has on our local economy and a hope that the drivers, some of whom are our neighbors, remain safe. And I was raised in a NASCAR-loving family -- had been to 20 or so races and had my picture made with Richard Petty before I was out of elementary school. I'm sure I'll visit the Hall of Fame at some point when my parents come to visit, though.

Born and raised in NC and miss it *everyday*! DH and I have a summer home there and hope to live in it year round in a few short years. In fact, weather is getting too warm for me now in FL, so I'll be off to NC for the summer in a couple of weeks. There will be *NO DIS BOARDS* for me the entire time I'm there, but I actually *enjoy* getting out and doing more in NC. In FL, I stay inside most of the time due to heat, humidity and snakes. I can certainly understand the appeal of NC for so many people.....scenery, weather, low cost of living, friendly people, low crime, mountains and beach close by....the list goes on. :teeth:

And some of us Yankees moved here hating Nascar, but settled down in Race City, USA, and became a fan against our will! :rotfl:

My parents moved here first. I remember driving down I-77, over Lake Norman, when I was in HS, on the way to visit family further South. My Dad said then that he wanted to retire here. Sure enough, they sold their tiny (paid for) house in NJ, came here, and bought a bigger house in cash. Dh and I followed them down 6 months later, and my sister about 2 years after that. I, for one, will never move back North. I love everything about living here. The housing prices, the weather, the people, the way of life...this is where I was meant to be. :thumbsup2

The real reason people are moving to North Caroilina is so they can have an American Idol contestant from their state!

I don't know what it is about North Carolina, but, I am from Long Island NY, and I know of 4 families that have moved down, and 3 others that are comtimplating it. I was wondering if all the "original" North Carolinians (sp?) find it annoying that all these Northerners are infiltrating your territory. :rotfl2:

The only annoying part is the constant complaining about how this is better up north and this is better, you rednecks don't do this right. If thats the case move back please!! :teeth:

PS: We don't drink POP in the south, its called a coke! :rotfl:

They heard our theme song "Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina"

Oh and they make fun of us because everything shuts down when it snows an inch (it is pretty silly...but true!) Other than that, I certainly don't mind the transplants. I think it's pretty complimentary that people are moving down here. It's destroying the misconception that all NC is is a bunch of NASCAR lovin rednecks.

My father would say YES whole heartedly...considering I married a Michigainian. That really ticked him off ;) ;) Of course DH is the only Michigainian that I know of who says "howdy"....cracks me up all the time. :lmao:

Now that would really piss me off! These people move to your state than complain, that the north is better? Than why did they move there in the first place. In my opinion when you move somewhere new you need to embrace the customs, afterall your the lowest on the totem pole, with no seniority! But, don't worry about everyone moving to your beautiful state, I for one am a very happy New Yorker (for now anyway). :lmao:
