Is every Yankee in the nation moving to NC?

The only annoying part is the constant complaining about how this is better up north and this is better, you rednecks don't do this right. If thats the case move back please!! :teeth:

PS: We don't drink POP in the south, its called a coke! :rotfl:

Even though I was a born and bred Jersey girl, I still agree with you! Where we live now, I have locals living next door, and another NJ transplant behind us. We are all friends. A few doors down is a New Yorker who is just as you described. Everything was better in NY. I honestly don't have a clue why he moved here. Even I want to say to him "If it's so much better in NY, go back!" Us, the locals, and the other NJ folks were griping about him the other day, and the locals even said to us "You might as well be locals now, no one would ever know you're from NJ!". Yes, when I first moved here, there were things I missed about NJ. But, now that we have a great pizza place that serves REAL NY pizza (they are originally from Brooklyn), there is nothing else I am needing from NJ. :rotfl:

Sounds like you need the bumper sticker that was a big seller here in Florida in the mid 1980's. It had a map of Florida on it and said, "If you love New York, take I-95 North!". Maybe you could substitute the Florida map for one of NC and print your own. I'm sure plenty of North Carolinans would buy it! :teeth:

I don't know what it is about North Carolina, but, I am from Long Island NY, and I know of 4 families that have moved down, and 3 others that are comtimplating it. I was wondering if all the "original" North Carolinians (sp?) find it annoying that all these Northerners are infiltrating your territory. :rotfl2:

Yes, born and raised here. If people keep moving here it won't be the beautiful, calm landscape anymore. It'll be sky rises and smog! It's not just northerners its A LOT of Floridians too. I love my state, but I wish less folks in other areas loved it less.

It really ticks me off to know end the Yanks that come down and then COMPLAIN about how much better things were where they came from-- I'm talking about the way people drive, the food, everything. If you don't like it then move back.

DH is a D Yankee (one that came down and didn't go back ;) ) and whenever he starts to complain I tell him to go back where he came from then. I have also told him that if he wants to move back up north I would be glad to help him pack.

It really bothers me when someone from somewhere else thinks that where you live stinks! I have a neighbor that is constantly talking about Maine. She was raised there. Well, if you love it so much, than go back! In Maine the air is cleaner, the food fresher, the people nicer, weather better. Well, I've been to Maine myself, and it is absolutely beautiful, but don't knock where I was born and raised and still live, and where you currently live. I think its just rude.

I'm original and I welcome anyone who pays taxes.

We went to dinner with 5 other couples from our neighborhood on Saturday. 2 were native North Carolinians and the others were from: Ohio, Vermont, Conn. and Washington State. They all have moved here within the past 3 years. The wives all said that they finally felt like they were home. This is where they are putting down roots and want to retire here.

I thought it was funny when my son came home from school on the first day and said he had a new friend named Dominic. I had never, ever met anyone in NC with that name. Times are a changin'. :goodvibes

Lori, I really liked what you had to say on your post.

Now I am not sure if I would even consider the Carolinas after what I have been reading here on this thread. Hey, I love the weather, love sweet tea, nobody makes it better that you all.....I even love the accent, but I am a true blue born and raised Boston girl who might not fit in if I am reading this correctly.....

Hopefully you are just joshing about the Northerners coming... I love in a resort area myself and do not complain about all the people from New York or Conn who call Cape Cod home in the summer.. it is a way of life.. :)

Well Dh and I moved to NC from Long Island 3 years ago for one reason...to buy a horse farm! There was no way on God's green Earth that we could've afforded to buy ANYTHING remotely like the slice of heaven we found in NC on Long Island. What we paid for our 23+ acre spread with a turnkey horse boarding/lesson operation would have JUST barely bought us 3 bedroom ramshackle house in Wyandanch or Shirley on Long Island (LI'ers know what I'm talking about...crappy neighborhoods...PS I grew up in Shirley so don'tr think I've got my nose turned up or anything). We actively pursued our dream and North Carolina was the place to facilitate that dream. We scoured VA, GA SC and FLA for the right property, but it was the Piedmont area of NC that ended up winning us over. LOW taxes, great people, good food, and nice weather.

If any of you born and bred Southerners ever had to live and support your lifestyles for any length of time in the North, you too would be high-tailing it out of there so fast your head would spin. It sucks...especially for young couples trying to make a life for themselves.

Sorry if we're cramping your style, but we need to live too! ;-)

Well, you know, North Carolinians ARE yankees to us!

Edited to add: Actually, anyone North of the Red River is a yankee to some of us!

you don't have "all" the yankees moving to NC , because we have a ton of the "cidiots" moving north out of NYC drviving prices thru the roof.

Nice :thumbsup2

We are Yankees that decided on Kentucky-we looked south and we ain't moving back. There is so much more to offer here-it's MUCH cleaner, more laid back, and the density of Cracker Barrels is great. If one has an hour wait, just go 5 miles down the interstate to another. Gosh-the old Cracker Barrel in Akron, OH just went out of business due to slow sales.

Our neighbors are from Michigan and New York originally-our son's teacher just moved from Illinois. I manage 18 people, over half are not from here. At one point last summer, we had license plates from Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Tennessee, and KY at out pick up point.

The only thing we miss is good pizza and ice cream, both of which haven't seemed to make it south yet.

You've got a lot of land on the water and in the mountains and lots of golf-- folks up here have lots of cash. There does seem a run on buying homes in North & South Carolina -- many of them are second homes and/or second homes they plan to use for retirement. Every winter there is a big real estate show -- used to be primarily FL properties. Now, it's all Outer Banks, HHI, Albermarle Sound.......you are very perceptive.

As for the jobs......many folks either don't need them, are using this as a second home, or have figured out how to conduct their work on-line and can now work "anywhere, any time".

No some of them are moving to Arkansas.

We also get the you poor dumb hicks attitude from some transplants. I don't care who moves here (I wasn't born and raised here myself) just don't tell us how backwards we are, how much better it was up there or Cali (we get alot of Californians too) and so on. I have thought about asking a few people who invited them and why don't they go on home.

We come every year for the Charlotte race in May. Last year we met a guy who moved from PA to NC because he said the home he had here he paid $300,00 for and the taxes were to high, which I will agree. He said he move there and got a similiar house for half the taxes were alot lower. He said he loves it and would never move back to PA. For me, I would love to move to NC, I enjoy the people and the Southern hospitality which you do not find here in PA!!

Well, you can rest your worries about one Yankee! I woudn't move below the Mason-Dixon line for a million dollars and a cheesecake on a stick! :teeth: I'd miss the pizza too much!

A girl after my own heart!

I was born and raised in NC. I still live here in the great state of North Carolina. I say if you are nice come on down Y'all.

the californians are moving that way (and alot are moving to texas right now) are doing so because (despite a slowing housing market) a house they paid $200,000 for 5 or so years ago now sells for over $600,000. they can take the equity, pay off their existing debt, buy a huge place outright and still have a substantial sum in the bank. california retirees also move more now because our state changed the law some years back such that we no longer have to pay state tax on our pensions to both california and the state we reside in.

it is very alluring to a californian to see what their home buying potential is like in the southern states, and for those of us with younger kids the potential of raising them in a much more family oriented/low crime area is tremendously appealing.

as for jobs-alot of the folks i've seen move were government workers who found comparable positions within agencies in their new states (and although the pay is considerably less, between a lower cost of liveing, no mortgage or consumer debt and (a big benefit not offered to california state employees but offered in some southern states to all state employees) FREE college tuition at any state run college or university for their children-it can be of major financial benefit to move south). non government workers that move tend to have checked out the job market such that they know what jobs are available within what they consider to be a reasonable commute (which crazy as it sounds can be 3 hours each way by california standards)-so they may move to any area that has a depressed job market but be working in an area that most locals would never consider as a feasable option.

back in the 80's the mass migration was to oregon and washington-but we drove the prices too high up there (nevada is experiencing the same thing now), so the south is the new popular relocation destination.
