Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

tried to book Poly and they were filled, decided to stay at GF figured it was easy to hop to Poly to get ride to race - now I am thinking how do I get from Poly to GF at 3:00 am? any ideas? Not sure walk way around will be open and I doubt monorail or boats will be running - Maybe we will swim across??:lmao:

Really - Poly was booked already for the weekend? I guess among the 1/2 marathon, Food & Wine, MNSSHP, the 40% discount and free dining, I shouldn't be so surprisesd. :)
I do have my reservations . . . but I have to get back on track with the running now. I wish I liked it better . . . but an extra trip to Disney is the best motivation I can think of so I'm trying to hang in there!

After more exploring here is what I found out. Poly is not full, however we are DVC members and because Poly is a host they only gave DVC so many rooms and the rest are reserved for the marathon. Apparently there are plenty of rooms available. I also got confirmation that it is a quick 7 minute walk to get from the Poly to the GF so all is good!

LOL!! I feel exactly the same way about running.. Disney is my motivation

Welcome Andre! I think your best option is just to take a taxi back to your resort. If someone has a better idea, please chime in.

The other option is to find someone else who is staying at POP and hitch a ride. If this event is anything like the January event POP is a very popular resort amongst the runners.

I was looking at the google earth and I had an idea.

My Wife will drop me at the Wild World of Sports and after the race I will walk to Disney's Beach Club Resort (host resorts). There I will take a Taxi (2 mile ride) to Pop Century or a bus to Downtown Disney and than to Pop Century?

What do you think about this idea?

Thanks for your Help!!!

Hi all. My sister and I will be running in the relay. We are looking forward to it! I haven't run in a Disney race for a couple of years and miss it.

A question for the veterans...how do we get to the Wide World of Sports to pick up our race packet? We will be at the Beach Club so we'll have transportation for the race but wasn't sure about checking in.

Also, do we have to bring documentation of our time from a previous race? When I signed up it just asked my time, the name of the race and date.

Just ran/walked 7 miles this morning. Time wasn't as good as I would have liked but it was pretty hot and humid and I'm still trying to get acclimated to it.

Thanks for your help!

Taking a taxi from the Beach Club to Pop Century would be much easier than a bus to Downtown Disney and then to Pop. However, like others have mentioned, you may be able to catch a ride with another participant staying at Pop.

I think also you might be out of luck with the DTD bus option... if you finish the race after midnight, then stay at the party, there may not BE transportation to DTD.

According to their travel details page:

The following host resorts are currently available for the weekend at special rates and include transportation to all race weekend activities:

I think that the expo is part of the "all race weekend activities" part. I sent them an email to confirm and will come here and post their answer.

As for the proof, I have never had to show documentation but have brought it just in case. If you gave the event details they can confirm your time by looking at the results themselves. The only reason I bring mine is because I save all my race results as PDFs anyway and figure it doesn't hurt to have it with me. In all actuality if the race you completed has their results online you can always go to any of the hotel business centers and print them out if there is a question.

I wish I liked it better . . .

Maybe one day you will! :goodvibes I had been running for quite awhile forcing myself to do it before I fell in love with it.

Time wasn't as good as I would have liked but it was pretty hot and humid and I'm still trying to get acclimated to it.

I usually run inside on a treadmill but have been trying to get outside to run as much as possible (I prefer running outside but work and other things get in the way and before I know it, it's dark outside :( ) and to get used to running in the humidity (something we have plenty of where I live). It is certainly something to adjust to!

How is everyone doing with about 4 months to go? I had bronchitis for the past two weeks so that kind of slowed my training :(. I also had a bunch of AWFUL dates last month so I have decided to quit dating and focus more on running :). I am so excited for the half and to get away for a mini vacation! I really need it!

I also really need to get to a running shoe store to get some new shoes as mine are tearing my feet up.

Any idea on when the course will be available? Do they usually wait until a month or so before?

WDW Sports confirmed that there will be transportation from the host hotels to the expo on both Friday and Saturday.

That's good to know. Thanks for checking.

I was planning on bringing the printout of my 10K race results. The results are online if I forget.

I haven't gone through this whole thread, so sorry if this has been talked about. Any ideas when the half relay might fill up? My SIL and I are talking about doing it (she goes to school in florida, so it would be no biggie for her to drive to disney for the evening.) It says 50% full right now, how many times do they update how full the race is? Will they say 75% or even 90% before closing it? TIA!

They do step it up but I can't remember if it is 10% increments or not. They won't jump from 50% to full if that is what you are worried about. Well, at least in the past they never have. I guess no one can guarantee they won't do it now but that would be a pretty big fail.

Just in case anyone is wondering, there is a bus that departs from Hollywood Studios that will take you directly to Wide World of Sports if you are not staying at a host resort. It is in a slightly different area, but if you go to the bus dispatch station, they will point out the proper location to wait.
