Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Just in case anyone is wondering, there is a bus that departs from Hollywood Studios that will take you directly to Wide World of Sports if you are not staying at a host resort. It is in a slightly different area, but if you go to the bus dispatch station, they will point out the proper location to wait.

That's good to know. Thanks

How is everyone doing with about 4 months to go? I had bronchitis for the past two weeks so that kind of slowed my training :(. I also had a bunch of AWFUL dates last month so I have decided to quit dating and focus more on running :). I am so excited for the half and to get away for a mini vacation! I really need it!

I also really need to get to a running shoe store to get some new shoes as mine are tearing my feet up.

Any idea on when the course will be available? Do they usually wait until a month or so before?

I'm running the first half of the relay and I'm now comfortable doing 3 miles in just under 40 mins. I need to work on getting some more distance and would like to trim my time down as well.

I love that your turning bad dates into something productive! You will be the better for it. I remember being at the exact same place, after so many bad dates, I decided to stop dating; then I met a guy that recorded the band I did live sound for - we got to know each other that way and just started hanging out. Though I never saw it coming turned out that he was the one!

I think there's a course description but no maps yet.

I feel your pain Kim. 2010 hasn't been a banner year for dating up here either. It is what it is though.

That's great! :yay:

What a great story! :lovestruc Dating had always been so easy in the past because I get along with just about everyone but for some reason I'm finding very odd people to go out on dates with! My best one is I went out on 3 dates with a guy who only had two conversational options 1) silence and 2) give me tips about working out or anything related to the gym. I thought maybe he was just nervous at first but he seemed pretty arrogant. So after the third date of me trying to squeeze ANY conversation out of him he tells me even though he's attracted to me he has no chemistry with me. So I thanked him for his honesty (and was relieved that I no longer had to put up with the uncomfortable silence to see if things would change). He then calls me the next day and leaves a voicemail asking me about a restaurant I had mentioned 'cause he wanted to take a date there that night! :rotfl:

But it's ok, my life really is so great and I have so many things I love to do. I realized I shouldn't have to put so much effort into finding the right person and to focus that effort more on running because I was starting to become complacent and not really pushing myself like I should. I ran such a good, hard run last night and it felt great!

I'm a little nervous about the half, mostly about being overwhelmed by the amount of people there but I've always pushed through fear and nervousness so I know it'll be ok.

No it hasn't! I thought dating would be easier the older I got, like I would find people who knew what they wanted and it wouldn't feel like work because they had experienced so much and were more defined as a person and were all looking for the same thing I was. I have been smacked in the head with reality now though! But you're right, it is what it is :).

I have another question about the halves at WDW (since this post is becoming like my own little life journal ), what happens at the end? I would imagine they have water available?

Oh, I just thought of something else :). If they begin the race at the WWOS area and it ends at Epcot, where would be the best place to park?

I'm planning on parking at Epcot, as that's where the after party is and don't want to find a taxi to go back to WWoS. Getting to WWoS for the start should be easy enough, I think/hope.

There is water and the normal post race grub like bananas. Of course this is a different kind of race having the food samples afterwords but they really should still have something for the runners to grab and eat quickly before we cool down and can enjoy the actual post race party.

I would park at Epcot. You can take the bus from Epcot to DHS since they will have a bus from DHS to the start. If you have a parkhopper that you already used that day you could also park at Epcot and walk through the park, around the boardwalk, and along the canal to DHS. It would be a good warm up especially if you jogged around the lake to the DHS parking lot.

Isn't the Poly a host hotel too? We're looking at AKL, so we'll probably park at Epcot then take the monorail to TTC and catch a bus from the Poly.

I'm knocked out with another really bad cold so no training for me so far this week (hoping I can get back out there on Friday, but we'll see). Starting to get nervous as I REALLY need to get my butt in gear!

I understand that because we're staying at the Contemporary (actually BLT) there won't be any transportation, so we were planning on relying on a taxi to get back. Will there be a line-up of taxis ready to go or should we try and call one beforehand or about 30 minutes before? (I've only done local races here where I just walk home after the event! :thumbsup2) Or will it be better to take a bus to one of the host hotels and then cab back to BLT?

I have been reading this thread for a while, but did not want to post anything until I caught up to date on the thread. We are planning on running the race, but have not registered yet.

I emailed the race people and they said Guest Services at Epcot can call a cab for you when you are ready to leave.

:welcome: to the DIS! I understand how colds and general illness can really knock you out of your schedule. I felt like that all winter/spring. I am just about to make a chart to post in my home office - a schedule showing my training runs for each day/week/ month. We've got 4 months exactly - even my run/walk keister can get it in gear in time! :rotfl2:

:welcome: to the DIS to you as well!

Thanks for passing along the info. Right now I'm booked at POFQ, but if the right points rental came along I'd switch to a DVC resort and just cab it.

Assuming I'm still at POFQ what time will I need to leave the resort to get over to WWOS?

Oh and - WHAT WILL THE MEDALS LOOK LIKE????

Hey, Hey! No editing! ;) That's a good idea. I'm not sure about the ticket situation yet but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go to Epcot that day earlier.

Ugh :sad2:. I hate being sick! (of course, I don't think anyone likes it). Don't worry, you still have plenty of time!

Assuming I'm still at POFQ what time will I need to leave the resort to get over to WWOS?

I was going to ask this as well! I'd much rather be early. The last race I did I was waiting on other people for a ride (they weren't even running, they were watching) and they took forever and I got to the start area just as the horn blew. I was a nervous wreck trying to make it and I do not want to do that at WDW.

We're at POR, but I'm not sure we'll be coming from there. If we're at EPCOT, we might just walk to the Beach Club and take that bus.

I wonder if Disney anticipates the amount of people planning on using bus transportation from host resorts that aren't actually staying there :scratchin. That's my only concern about leaving my car at Epcot and taking the monorail to the TTC and going over to the Poly and taking the bus. I'd hate to go through that and there's a HUGE line of people waiting for like 1 bus to make the trip around.

Because I'm a worry wart and I really like the walk down the canal to DHS I'll probably follow Frank's advice :).

I've never checked a bag before at a race. Do any of you recommend checking a bag? Is it a pain getting it at Disney races? What kind of things do you put in there?

Hey all!! Just wanted to join this thread as we (my husband and I) officially entered the relay!! :cool1:

We were all signed up and ready to run the Half Marathon in January. Then my husband was struck down by H1N1...I followed soon after.:sick::sick::sick: NOT fun. Scary actually. That is one bad bug.

We were not able to run the 1/2 in January. Devastating to say the least but we were still really sick on race weekend. We are determined to make it to this race HEALTHY and ready to go!! My mom is going to join us on this trip so the relay will be great b/c she won't have to hang out by herself while we run.

I'm really excited. I can't wait!!! Fingers crossed that germs stay AWAY!!!:goodvibes

I'm concerned about bussing. I had POFQ at race rate, but switched to POR with a 40% pin. When I canceled, the sports reservation people weren't aware that POR was added as a host hotel and they told me I would only be allowed to use the bus if I had booked through them. I pushed a bit harder and told her I'd done Minnie, TOT and Goofy and no bus vouchers were ever issued. Opinions? Should I be concerned about not being permitted on a bus?

I just went back to the race website and read the fine print at the bottom of the transportation page.

IMPORTANT! Remember that transportation is ONLY provided from our host hotels! Transportation to/from all race related events will be available for this event ONLY if you stay at the resorts listed above. No other race transportation will be provided from the WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resorts. You will have to provide your own transportation if you elect to stay at another resort.

I've never done a race so i'm not sure how the buses work. I think i'll look into changing to POR/FQ though. I'd hate to be late because I couldn't get on a bus at another hotel...
