Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I looked through the site and couldn't find it..does anyone know the pace for this race? I did the TOT 13K last year and really enjoyed it. I like running at night and thought this would be a good first 1/2 marathon to try.

Per the site:

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon & Relay
To compete you must be 14 years of age or older. All athletes entering the Half Marathon or Relay must maintain a 16-minute per mile pace or faster throughout the entire race.

Hope that helps.

Ack! I just need a team name?!?!?!?

My partner (two-foxes) & I met on the DISunplugged board and we're both Moms of little ones. Any creative ideas you want to share?

Count me in. I just signed up to run the Disney Wine and Dine Half-Marathon. I waited until I finished a 10K this weekend. This will be my second half but first Disney race! I'm excited!!!!!!!!

I know this is the inaugural race, but does anyone have any idea what the limit is for entries for the half? What is the limit for the one in January? Just curious how big the crowd will be.

And early January 2011 gives you another marathon weekend to run if you time it right...just sayin' :rolleyes1

Unlike you tough Clevelanders, I am not inclined to do long training runs in November and December in Wisconsin  for a January marathon.

I am so torn with this race - UGH :confused3

I live in NJ and I did the princess 1/2 in March as my first half and loved LOVED every minute of it. I am doing the princess in 2011 too, being a dvc member and a wife and mom of 4 I am feeling guilty using our points to do 2 disney races - not to mention that I also enjoy the expo's too and I think I would feel rushed if the whole family came in Oct.

I found a 1/2 in Long Island, the Diva, and the reg fee is only $75 and the room at the host hotel is only $135 when you divide that by 2 - I am saving alot of money because I can drive to the race and also drive home SO NO AIRFARE and also the room and race is just the cost of enterance for the food n wine.

DH has been amazing and said we would do a family trip in OCT, but its alot to ask of my DH expecially because I would want to nap before the 1/2 and then go to the expo all while he would have the kids.

UGH ----

Bottom line I booked the hotel for the DIVA and if something changes and I do disney I can cancel and get my money back for the hotel.

Has anyone been able to purchase the spectator tickets for the half marathon after party?? :confused3

That's why I do my training for the January half on the indoor track at the gym! :thumbsup2

This has been an ongoing problem for us. We have friends and family running and wanted to purchase the tickets. When the website had no other information besides "tickets will be available Spring 2010" I wrote to WDW/ESPN/WWoS and asked about them.

After two weeks I received an email response giving me a phone number to call that they said was Disney Sports. When I called the number it was actually Convention Sales! They couldn't help me. But the very nice CM there called Disney Sports and was told they couldn't help either!! :confused3

She did say that every registration packet has a code number that must be entered in order to purchase these tickets and that they are available online. I haven't gotten a code number from any of our registrants yet so I don't know if this is true.

I emailed them again over a week ago and have yet to receive any further response.

Officially registered yesterday. So count me in.

Swim-mom, I understand your struggle. I'm doing this as my first half, have already registered for the half in January and am thinking about doing next years princess as well. Then I started thinking about eating up all my vacation time and vacation funds to go to these half's. Sounds like you have a great supportive husband! I'm sure it'll work out for you.

PNO4TE It sounds like Disney is confused and thinks you might be looking to purchase discounted park tickets. Isn't that what you need the code for? But I think we were able to purchase the after party tickets on Active last year when I did the Everest challenge. But I booked very late in the game so maybe that's why I could do them at the same time. Hope it gets figured out for you.

So being the nosy person I am and the overplanner :rotfl: I called Disney Sports to see what they would say. They told me to call 407 WDW IRun
which I did to see what they would say

The lady who I spoke with at this number told me that yes indeed when you register you should receive a code at that time (I wonder if they can verify some other way - should have asked that) and yes she had the tickets for sale over the phone at that phone number (I guess you need the code to buy - I am registering tonight...so not sure yet how that works) Also she said they are trying to get a link online to buy there as well, but don't have that up yet

She said that they are $35 per ticket

(Dang even more expenses adding up for this trip :sad2:) I know this is the inaugural race, but does anyone have any ideas how the party goes/how it is for spectators and such??

The only number I could find on the receipt was the confirmation number. :confused3
I have some friends that are planning on attending and would like to help them get tickets.
Hopefully there will be some answers soon.

.

Did you register really early on? I registered yesterday and in my registration confirmation email there is a code for theme park tickets and hotels. Also it says to call the WDW IRUN number for the after party tickets. Even if you have the code I think they check to make sure the runners are registered anyway. So you might be able to get tickets if you just tell them the runners name.

Yes, I registered on New Years Day. Nothing says to call 407-WDW-I-RUN and there isn't anything listed about hotels or tickets. Guess I will call and see what's up.

When you registered you should have received two emails from active.com. One is labeled "Payment Receipt" and the other "Registration Confirmation". The email labeled registration should have the following line:

To purchase theme park tickets using the Online ticket store, use the password: ********

If you don't have it the code looks like it is a generic one and not specific for the user so if you don't have the email send me a PM and I will shoot you mine.

Just for family to be spectators of the race you have to pay $35 per ticket? I thought that was all included in the registration?? I thought you would just have to pay additional money if they were going to the after party? Help, I am confused!! :confused3

It wasn't easy but I was able to buy the party ticket today!! :yay:

My son signed up for the Half several days ago and his confirmation email stated to call 407-WDW-IRUN to purchase the tickets. I called the number and was first told "sorry, we only book the sleeping rooms". So I read the paragraph from the email, the CM put me on hold (several times) and "oops, yes, we ARE selling the tickets!!" She asked for the password from the email and for my name, address, phone. (didn't need any information about the runner - my son and I have different last names, addresses and phone numbers.) She took my CC # ($35), gave me a confirmation # and said "bring that number and your picture ID to Will Call". All set! :thumbsup2

This obviously is a very new procedure so it may take a couple days before we all get the same answer, but here's the verbiage from the email:

"FINISH LINE PARTY TICKETS
Need to purchase tickets to the finish line party for your loyal spectators? Finish Line Party tickets can be added to your travel package or purchased separately when you call (407)WDW-IRUN."

:woohoo:

To be at the Finish Line spectators must purchase a ticket to the Finish Line party. Not sure, but perhaps they could volunteer somewhere along the route. :confused3

Attendance to the after party is included for the registered runner only, not family. If anyone wanted to cheer but not purchase tickets I'm guessing they could watch anywhere along the course they would like (once it is published) that is outside of Epcot. It would be like watching the half on marathon weekend if the runner you were with was fast enough to be back through Epcot before the park opened. You could line the course in the parking lot or on the roads along the route but if you didn't have a party ticket Epcot would be effectively closed for you.
