I own 460 points (split pretty close to even between BCV and BWV). Same use year.

First question. Can I trade into ANY II Resort? I'm assuming that with my 460 points it should be enough for a week in a one BR just about anywhere, if not more than enough.

How do I find out the list of all the II resorts? Or can we only trade into the ones listed in the DVC members info?

Do we have access to the II web site? What would we use for a user name and password?

Any other info on this, and any experiences anyone has had (especially with Hawaii) is appreciated.

No, you can NOT exchange your points in to just ANY I.I. resort. The II resorts are chosen by MS for DVC. They are posted in the DVC Members Guidebook along with their equivelnt point value. MS handles all exchanges and reservations for you.

Unless II membership was part of your purchase, you'll need to join to get a membership name and password. Cost is roughly $80/year.

Thanks Dave. OK, next question. Maybe I'm blind or something, but I've NEVER seen the number of points needed for a week at any of these resorts listed anywhere. I do'nt want to think about planning something, only to find out that I don't ahve enough points. How are we supposed to know, or do we just bother MS with these questions.

Hi,

Two ways. First, they are listed in your DVC Members Guidebook, and second they are on the DVC Membrs Website. They are listed under the Concerige Collection, Adventurers Collection, or World Passport Collection. Points are also listed. On the website, click on "Planning your Vacation" , then click on the appropriate listing. Now some of these resorts are not I.I., and many are. But not being an expert on I.I., I don't know which ones are and aren't. If you see something in your guidebook, double check on the website, as many times during the year MS makes addition and subtractions to the list. We are updated on these changes from the Vacation Magic Newsletter that comes quarterly.

The number of points for the exchange is determined by the number of points to reserve the same sized villa at a DVC resort. DVC can (and does) try to find the least costly time to use our exchange. If you asking for a 2BR, it will cost you points for a 2BR at some DVC resort. If possible, DVC may be able to use your BWV points at HH in Jan- giving you a very inexpensive exchange. This has to be figured out with II and thus, no chart can be printed with accurate information to cover all possible scenarios.

Just figure the maximum number of points for the same sized accommodations for the same dates and you'll at least know the most it will cost (and it may be less)!

Enjoy!

Thanks Doc! At least now I have a rule of thumb.

Also ask about the number of points needed for a one bedroom. We exchanged for Gran Canaria in August and were quoted 196 points for a one bedroom. Out of curiosity, I asked how many points it would take for a 2 bedroom and it was only 200 points, as we were able to swap using a March Hilton Head 2 bedroom, even though we are not members at Hilton Head. If you are booking say seven months before December, you may be lucky and get to swap a Hilton Head December villa which would take even less points. Good luck. I would look as early as possible because I found it difficult to find much availability booking in February for anywhere during July and August.

DVC members are not actually members of II and cannot in any scenario contact II directly about DVC, trade directly with II or access the web site. One must be an owner at an II resort to join II and DVC does not qualify. Furthermore, if one is an II member, they will won't deal with you direclty about DVC.

The best rule of thumb is that you can expect to give up OKW Dream or rarely magic points for a week at the same size unit as you request for the top times of the year. Assume OKW Adventure for other times. For example, Xmas to spring break Caribbean will be the higher points and the rest will be the lower. The other caveat is that if Adventure points will quality, HH is the cheapest adventure by far. If you accept an instant exchange, you will give up the points for the same size unit regardless of what you need but occasionally for an ongoing search, you will get a larger unit. If the resort you want only has 2 BR units, you will give up 2 BR points.

As already noted, one can only exchange to the resorts DVC approves unless you do a direct exchange or use one of the independent exchange companies.
