Whatever the new name is, I hope it is short and rolls easily off the tongue so that it won't be forever refered to as an acronym, at least while speaking. (Acronyms live forever in blog posts and twitter, but guests actually say Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom instead of MK and AK. Not so with MGM or DHS.)

Does anyone else think of Hollywood as a place in California, not necessarily just the movie industry? Movies are made everywhere. Walt himself got started in the movie business in Kansas City.
Maybe I'm just too much of a geography buff.

It was MGM longer than it was DHS. Old habits die hard. And some of us loved and miss when it was MGM because that's when that park was most alive. MGM means a lot more to some of us than DHS.

It seems like the name just changed to Hollywood Studios! (And to be honest, I like the current name better than MGM) Epcot dropping "Center" is still Epcot.

As long as they don't get rid of "Hollywood," considering that's what a lot of the park is based on.

Because that was the name of the park for a REALLY long time. It's also why so many of us were thrilled to see the hat go, it brings the park back to the look of a time in which we first fell in love with it.

Hollywood Kingdom is the natural choice. Then next year we can change Epcot to Epcot Kingdom.

I understand what you are saying. My thinking is that if they are going to change the name, they are likely changing the theme of the park. Otherwise, there is no reason to change the name. If they are going to change the theme to include "adventure", I would think that they intended to include some high energy, adventurous experiences. If that turns out to be true, I hope that they don't sacrifice the old Hollywood feel they have going on on Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards. Also, the more I think about it, the less I like the name - theme change or not. Odd since I really enjoy DCA.

When DCA got it's name change and makeover, they didn't really change the park all that much (the adding of the word Adventure in the name didn't turn that place into a thrill ride park). It just made it a bit more cohesive. I have a feeling we'll see the same from this makeover at DHS. No worries!

If we assume that the re-imagined park will have a significant SW presence and a significant Pixar presence, then the word "Hollywood" has no relevance at all. Neither of these franchises has anything to do with Hollywood. May as well call it "Disney's Silicon Valley Adventure" or "Disney's Northern California Adventure". The term "Hollywood" in the current name is only relevant because of the "Hollywood of the 20's and 30's" theming that is prevalent in the park. If they keep that theming as a focal point of the park, then the term "Hollywood" would still make sense. But if the "old school Hollywood" theme becomes a mere fraction of the park, then I would toss the name and move on to something more cinematic. Adding SW and/or Pixar makes the park less Hollywood. Not more Hollywood. Maybe something like Disney's Movieland Adventure. Or Disney's World of Movies

I've got no problems with a name change. I'm likely to keep referring to it as MGM anyway.

The whole reveal seems like a setup. What six year old would ask a question like that? Plus I don't really buy into Iger "accidentally" spilling the beans.

To be clear, once the plans were solid for DCA in Anaheim, the park always had "Adventure" as part of its name.
First, "Disney's California Adventure."
Now, "Disney California Adventure."
