Iger confirms DHS name change will happen

I didn't look for myself, but it was mentioned in another thread...according to Kenny the Pirate, apparently a permanent stage is going in where the hat used to be. It will be called "Center Stage".

I just saw that, and they've apparently put it on the maps already even though it's not actually been built yet, but they do have a stage in front of Cinderella Castle as well

plus they could use the Chinese theater as a back drop for shows like they use the real one for movie premiers, like say Star Wars weekend could look like it did back in 70's

They could do this type of thing in the park behind this new stage, for what ever event or show is happening at the moment

Seriously? I've been joking about this in some threads, but I hadn't actually seen anything firm on it.

I can't imagine that will go over well. But I also can't imagine how they were going to hold their special events without some sort of stage.

we still call it mgm as well.
There really seems like not much to the park anymore, anxious to see what they bring to it.

The only thing in front of the real Chinese Theater these days are panhandlers dressed in costumes. I trust that the new stage will not try to recapture that aspect of Hollywood.

No. They won't allow panhandlers. They are just going to start charging for pictures and autographs ...just like the real thing.

Probably going to regret posting this, but . . . . .

I just got a very interesting report about the plans. Apparently the decisions have all been made (up to the Iger level), and the big announcement ("big" was the key word here) is going to be held off until Star Wars Weekends. (As the first stage of the expansion is likely to be the Star Wars project, that makes sense.) But it sounds as if they may announce all three phases of the expansion, with the first stage getting the details and then just a few general things about the next two. If this is accurate, the Studios may end up being the centerpiece of the 50th anniversary celebration, as the park could end up doubling in size, and all this work might actually take until 2021.

What's curious is that internally, they have been using the name "Disney Studios East". Now, is that just a name for discussion, or is that the intended new name of the park? I can't tell.

ETA - Got confirmation that "DSE" is just an acronym used internally, primarily by guys in suits who work at Disney Studios in Burbank. It didn't sound like a very good name for the park from the start.

I guess if they double the size of the park, might actually make it into a full-day park finally!

But truthfully, they'll still have a third of the park filled up with abandoned buildings. Now if they put something into those buildings (besides souvie shops), then THAT would be big news!

They still have big movie premieres there all the time, and you must be this boards resident optimist huh? :-)

I believe there may have been a hint of sarcasm in Jimmy's statement ....although it IS true!

I heard... Igerland is the #1 choice. Santaland starring Jack Frost is a distant 2nd. .:teeth:

So where's the hat going

So where's the hat going?

Here's my thing. I was not a fan of the hat. I hated that it blocked the view of the theater and thereby changed the feel of the park when you first entered. However, I learned to accept that the hat was there to stay. I didn't like it, but I had accepted it. Then, the past few times I visited, they had that ridiculous stage blocking the stupid hat that blocked the beautiful theater. Words cannot express how much I detested that stage. I also really didn't care for the shows on the stage. They were loud and annoying and, again, didn't really fully fit with the theme (remarkable seeing as how the theme lately really seemed to be "identity crisis"). I wanted the stage gone. I longed to see that stupid hat - that's how much I hated that stage. Please oh please oh please don't let the stage be a permanent thing. If it's going to block the theater, what was the point of eighty-sixing the hat in the first place? It's going to be one that can go into the ground or something when not in use, right? And they aren't going to be using it for stupid shows year-round, are they?

The Hat became a part of HS. Although, I must admit...I much prefer the Theater. We just returned from WDW. Employees rumored...Star Wars, Radiator Springs and possibly something Frozen for the Studios. The consensus...major change is coming. I hope it's good and not like the Fantasyland expansion or a huge pad of concrete. I HATE what they've done to the hub in MK. It makes it hotter (heat wise, not good) and its UGLY!
