I think Ke$ha's lyrics set the women's movement back 50 years...

And that seems to be the target audience. I don't think anyone is proclaiming Ke$ha a brilliant artist or creative musician. She's found a niche that will make money, and that makes her a smart entertainer, I guess. I don't turn it off when it comes on the radio if I'm alone, but no way do I want my 3 year old hearing it.

That being said, I did hear a 9 year old girl at my church singing, "Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy...." and I told her that it was an inappropriate song to sing at church. Personally I think it's inappropriate for 9 year olds no matter where they are.

I also heard a group of girls (middle school, maybe) singing, "There's a place downtown where the freaks all come around, it's a hole in the wall, it's a dirty free for all...." while were in line at Toy Story Mania at HS. I was very very tempted to tell them to shut it....but kept my mouth shut.

Actually it was her mother who found her niche. If her Mom hadn't been a songwriter and worked in the circles she did, Kesha would not even be a blip on the radar. She is a product of pure, old fashioned, nepotism, from her family's stint as a host family for Paris & Nicole on The Simple Life to the latest single, she is nothing more than a product. And a less than mediocre one, at best.

IMO, music is an art form, and not something to be exploited for cash. Unfortunately that plot was lost by the big recording labels eons ago. Thank god for independent artists who are happy to just put their artwork out there to make people smile. Ke$ha is not one of those people...as we all know what the symbol substituted for the "s" in her name is all about.

why would you have told them to stop singing?

I think she's talentless and always looks like she needs a bath.... but that's just me.

I might like her music-I don't really know. :lmao:

I really don't listen to a lot of Top 40 anymore, I've kind of withdrawn into my iPod and the new stuff I do purchase is based on recommendations from friends or my 25 yr old godchild.

If you don't like her music, change the station..don't download it..whatever you need to do to avoid it. I think the real aim of any equality movement is to allow people to follow their heart in a way that does not intentionally cause harm to others. Any "harm" that her music is causing is easy enough to prevent.

Because a song about taking off all your clothes is not appropriate in a setting with lots of small children.

I think the song just says take it off....and really are the small kids going to know what it meant? and it was a line for goodness sake at WDW....I'm sure they are more worried about getting on to the ride....I've heard much worse in lines at WDW......wonder what the parents would have said if you had said something....

You are all aware that this exact conversation has already been done... about 1 billion times over the past 60 years?

Those darn kids, listening to that Elvis character. Don't have no idea what music really is.

Oh, btw, GET OFF MY LAWN!

the needing a bath part is just part of the persona--party girls been up all night, didn't get a bath. A lot of music industry folks are just a persona, they are nothing like the person they present on stage, in music or in videos. Look at Niki Menaj (or however it is spelled), she is a different persona in every song. It sells their music.

I wouldn't say she is talentless. I don't think she is the next Barbars Streisand or anything but she has a niche and she is in it and making big bucks there (regardless of who the genius is that came up with it). I much prefer her over Brittany Spears!

her music is fun and "catchy"

I think she has more talent than Britney, marginally, but both have found a market...

I'll take 3 minutes of 'this place is gonna blow' over 7 minutes of 'na na na nana na na, nana na na, hey jude, hey jude, hey judyjudyjudyjudy' any day. :hippie:

There's a place downtown,
Where the freaks all come around.
It's a hole in the wall.
It's a dirty free for all.

When the dark
Of the night comes around.
That's the time,
That the animal comes alive.
Looking for
Something wild.

And now we lookin' like pimps
In my gold Trans-Am.
Got a water bottle full of whiskey
In my handbag.
Got my drunk text on
I'll regret it in the mornin'
But tonight
I don't give a
I don't give a
I don't give a

There's a place downtown,
Where the freaks all come around.
It's a hole in the wall.
It's a dirty free for all.

And they turn me on.
When they Take It Off.
When they Take It Off.
Everybody Take It Off.

There's a place I know
If you're looking for a show.
Where they go hardcore
And there's glitter on the floor.

And they turn me on.
When they Take It Off.
When they Take It Off.
Everybody Take It Off.

Lose your mind.
Lose it now.
Lose your clothes
In the crowd.
We're delirious.
Tear it down
'Til the sun comes back around.

N-now we're getting so smashed.
Knocking over trash cans.
Eurbody breakin' bottles
It's a filthy hot mess.
Gonna get faded
I'm not the designated
Driver so
I don't give a
I don't give a
I don't give a

I don't wonder what the parents would have said because 1) I have more tact than to actually call out strangers in public unless they are doing something really reprehensible, and 2) I didn't see any parents, just a group of loud obnoxious girls. And that's part of the point - 20-somethings might enjoy the song, but have enough sense not to sing it at the top of their lungs in a "family environment." Regardless of the song, I would expect to get dirty looks if I started singing loudly in a Disney queue (and I'm a professional!).

I'll take 3 minutes of 'this place is gonna blow' over 7 minutes of 'na na na nana na na, nana na na, hey jude, hey jude, hey judyjudyjudyjudy' any day. :hippie:

Na na na na na na na na na na HEY JUDE!

My son's name is Judah and anytime I hear "Hey Judah!" it starts the na na na nana na na running through my head. Good thing I like the song!

That like comparing a kindergarten drawing to a Van Gogh
