I think Ke$ha's lyrics set the women's movement back 50 years...

I'm no fan of Ke$ha but she wasn't the first artist to put a dollar in her name.

Rapper (turned preacher) Ma$e did it many years ago

I think the woman is brilliant (or her agent is)..writing catchy pop songs and making bank----she isn't the first and won't be the last....

forget the "women's movement" part...maybe I should have left that out...my point is the song glamorizes the airhead, party girl, conceited, slutty lifestyle...don't think the women's movement was fought to encourage girls to live like tramps.

From a died in the wool feminist... I agree! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

and furthermore, I don't think a great pop song would include a responsible woman going to law school, studying for the BAR exam, staying in and eating pizza.....

I find it ironic that she has a song called Blow because she certainly does.

I like Ke$ha because her music is fun. Nothing like driving in your car with the windows rolled down singing "Tik Tok" on a summer afternoon.

My 11-year old DD loves both those songs and has them on her iPod. I always screen the lyrics in the songs before I allow her to buy them. I don't see anything particularly wrong with We Are Who We Are or Blow. Honestly, I am much more disturbed by the lyrics of the song If I Die Young by The Band Perry which is a gentle twangy country-type song.

The one's you highlighted are the songs my 9 year old has on her ipod. She loves Ke$ha.

Nothing wrong with Ke$ha and her auto tuned dance music. You can really exercise to the beat.

Isn't that the truth. Why on earth would some one want to listen to an upbeat fun song that you can dance to and ride around town in your car and just have a great time to, when you can listen to someone dying young. TGo me that is very disturbing and personally not what I listen to music for.

I love Ke$ha, she makes me happy, and that is what music is for.

Well, let me put it this way...if I was her dad, I would not be proud.

Ok, see, that has NOTHING to do with the movement. Women broke free of those kinds of judgements and began to follow THEIR hearts instead of what a male society expected or wanted of them. Your relationship with your daughter is between you and her but the best would be unconditional love.

Seems everyone of her songs glorifies the air-headed, ditzy, party-gurlz stereotype.

:confused3

And that seems to be the target audience. I don't think anyone is proclaiming Ke$ha a brilliant artist or creative musician. She's found a niche that will make money, and that makes her a smart entertainer, I guess. I don't turn it off when it comes on the radio if I'm alone, but no way do I want my 3 year old hearing it.

That being said, I did hear a 9 year old girl at my church singing, "Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy...." and I told her that it was an inappropriate song to sing at church. Personally I think it's inappropriate for 9 year olds no matter where they are.

I also heard a group of girls (middle school, maybe) singing, "There's a place downtown where the freaks all come around, it's a hole in the wall, it's a dirty free for all...." while were in line at Toy Story Mania at HS. I was very very tempted to tell them to shut it....but kept my mouth shut.

I admit it, I love her. Her music is just fun. FYI her mother helps her write her lyrics. Ke$ha has also written songs for other artists.

Wow...1400 views of a thread about someone with a $ in their name...:confused3

Its not supposed to be music with some deep meaning--its just fun.

As for the $--do you remember Prince's former "name"? And Pink is acutally normally spelled P!nk. She is far from the first to use some kind of symbol in her name.

While some may think Ke$ha is ditzy, she's actually quite the opposite. Quite brilliant, in fact. She has an IQ above 140 and had an SAT score of 1500.
The girl is a genius -- literally!

Ke$ha on the different sides of her personality: “I think you can be this total maniac onstage and act like a complete idiot, but also be really respectful, really positive and smart. You don’t have to be just one thing.”

“I was this weird paradox of a person [in high school]. I was in the marching band, and I played music in a really cool punk band with the hot seniors, and I’d write bratty pop songs,” she says. But Ke$ha was also a certified genius, with an IQ over 140 and an SAT score of 1500. “I would drive to the local college and take classes on Cold War history, just for fun,” she admits.
