If you’d be applying for you, then your DH’s count doesn’t matter.
It looks like you are 6/24, 4/12, and 0/6 with Chase.
Notice that your Amex business card applications (SPG Biz and Hilton Biz) don’t show up on your personal credit report, so Chase won’t know about them or count them. Your upgrade to the Marriott Premier Plus shouldn’t count as a new card account either.
The 0 new (personal or Chase) cards in the past 6 months is making me think that it should be ok for you to apply for the Chase Marriott Biz. I believe your last Chase cards were the CFU and Marriott Premier double dip back in early December. Since then, you’ve laid low and gotten only the Hilton Biz (which Chase doesn’t see), so it doesn’t seem like you’re a “bust out” risk that might be shut down.
Remember that Chase business card applications have a 0/30 rule, meaning you should have 0 other Chase applications in the last 30 days if you want to be approved for a Chase business card, or else you’ll face likely denial. It doesn’t look like you have any Chase applications in the last 30 days.
It also doesn’t look like you have any Chase business cards.
Are you comfortable applying for a Chase business card? It’s not much different than applying for an Amex business card. Remember to keep things simple. Apply as a sole proprietor. Your business name is your name (first and last) — don’t get fancy with any fictitious names, or you may be denied pending verification. Your Tax ID number is your SSN. Your business address is your home address. There are many ways to put a number on revenue, including reasonable projections. Include your total household income in the application.
Since you are over 5/24 with Chase, Chase’s Ink line of business cards are out of reach for you.
However, the Marriott Biz is not subject to the 5/24 rule, so you can get it even if you are over 5/24, and it won’t add to your 5/24 count if you’re trying to get back under 5/24 to eventually get more cards from Chase. The thing you need to consider is how hard you’ve been hitting Chase cards recently, but you’re 0/6 and 0/30 as discussed above.
You’ve said you wanted to accumulate Marriott/SPG points. The Marriott Biz has a bonus of 75k Marriott Rewards points after a MSR of $3k in 3 months. First year annual fee is waived.
Another thing to consider is what might become of the Marriott Biz when Marriott finalizes its merger with SPG and Ritz-Carlton next year. Per negotiations between Marriott, Amex, and Chase, Amex will be the sole issuer of the business and super premium consumer card (likely what the SPG Luxury card will be rebranded to); whereas Chase will issue the mass consumer and premium consumer card (likely the Marriott Premier Plus card). So what happens to the Marriott Biz? For one, Chase will at some point, probably in early 2019, but maybe as soon as August 2018, stop issuing the Marriott Biz to new applicants. So if you want this card (or the points), you might want to get it sooner than later. What happen to current holders of the Marriott Biz? Nothing’s been announced, but possibilities include the card being grandfathered, converted to a Chase Ink card (which could be great for you), or the whole portfolio sold and swapped to Amex.
Please ask any questions before applying! Despite the eventual end to the Marriott Biz card, there’s no rush!
