I love credit cards so much!

I just called my daughter and asked if she wanted to go get an 'awful awful' this summer. She said she was too busy to be talking milkshakes right now, but we'll get back to it later!

Or he (Jay Leno) just drove in from Providence for the evening!
I live near enough to RI that we used to take the kids there on quick overnights just to get away....love the 'awful awful' memories...also,did you know that in RI a milkshake is also called a 'cabinet'? we all enjoyed our chocolate 'cabinets' on route 1 in the summer...we love Newport for sightseeing but I prefer the nature areas around Burlingame for wandering

I got the Lowes offer added too! Yay! I actually need to buy a new mower so perfect timing. I finally used the ebags offer to buy my DH a new carry on roller bag.
I got it on one biz card (spg) which is cool but I wish I had it on my hilton biz which I'm trying to MSR ......

Hi! So there are no requirements to getting the bonus...such as direct deposit or debit transactions. Just open and qualify for the bonus! I'm assuming you read that in order for the account to remain fee free you must have $1000 or you will be charged $25 a month. This is a pretty easy $175 and awesome that you can fund the $1000 with a c.c. I will be leaving $1000 for at least 90 days as you stated. This is only my second stab at bank bonuses, and my other one hasn't been closed yet, so I can't comment on how easy it is to close but I'm sure others can. I am not near any Cambridge banks so I will not be going in branch. I am going to close by secure message or phone.
in order to fund with a cc, you need to have your cash advance set to $0,right? can I do this by SM,or do I need to call in?

Lucky Duck! I never get anything good on mine

I used SM to reduce mine but they said the lowest was $100, but that will work.

I may be heading down a very frustrating path but here's what I'm thinking....(and asking) currently trying to MSR Hilton BIZ (it ain't easy) only about 1k in so far. I want to hit that ASAP,and was planning to refer DH for the same (he'd stay under 5/24 with that, right?) but just got the offer on both our HHonors cards for 2k/75k points each to upgrade to ascend, so I was thinking that might be a better route after I hit MSR on this Biz card... will upgrading affect the 5/24 for DH? and again, any and all advice for hitting MSR on Amex please..... I can't find previous notes on it... my usual go to is grocery stores/gc etc. but I feel like this is going to be tougher. My Home depot has upt to $50 visa gc, thinking about getting a pile of those, in addition to forcing my DH to tell me how much he plans to spend on our upcoming roof project, then I can get store gc (which is way better with no fees.(as long as this doesn't trigger some sort of issue with Amex) any advice on this planned path? Or am I on a fools errand here? so far, from what I understand, I can only 'safely' buy gc on amex (MSR) at Home Depot and Lowes (?)

Yes, I've heard cabinet.

When I was arriving there my kids were infant and kindergarten, so we stayed in local areas mostly. On one visit to the Norman Bird Sanctuary, right after starting down a little trail, my five year old spotted a snake. That was it. Never could get her down that trail again! Now, the beaches, yes, we were there regularly. There was actually a Navy beach and we became members - you have to pay to swim at the beach clubs there. We also would go to 2nd and 3rd Beach, but always hard to find parking.

I haven't even applied for the card yet, but that was my plan if at all possible, to buy HD gift cards, in advance of my project as HD will be doing my roof - their quote is the best by over 6K.

I thought Staples was the only one that provided L3 data, but I could be wrong about that. I think the general consensus though is to avoid buying gift cards on Amex to meet MSR.

Just checked my Amex Offers and noticed this one on my PRG and MB Plat:

How crazy is this, @Judique??? If you have a similar offer I think it's a sign that you should be making a trip to Newport!

I had asked @Judique the same question a couple of pages ago. Of all the regionalisms I heard when I lived in RI, "cabinet" was certainly the strangest! "Going for cabinets and grinders, wanna come?" We call them grinders in CT too, but cabinets was certainly a new one for me.
Did you know there's one town in RI that says "side by each" instead of "side by side"?

I ran and looked but no Gurney's for me. Guess my stay back in 1983 will have to do!!!

I'm jealous that you got to live there! I've visited every few years since I was a kid. I'm in CT, and my aunt had a summer home on Green Hill Beach in South Kingston, so we used to stay there and make trips into Newport. I've also been to the Folk Festival a few times. I've always loved the architecture of the colonial homes on the island, and of course the mansions. If I've ever been to Breton Point I don't remember it. I'll add it to the list for next year! We were really happy with the place we stayed, although it was a little unorthodox being a time share property that also rented rooms as if it were a hotel. It's called The Wellington Resort. We were right on Thames, but set back from the road so that the buildings were along the water's edge. We walked everywhere.

ETA: I just looked up Gurney's Resort. WOW!!!!

I’m spoiled. I cross that bridge every day to get to work in Newport!

well my DH is a hardcore DIY'er...(sometimes I wish he wasn't) so I'm still waiting for his estimates.... so far its a plan for this! From what I have read I can do gc's at either of these stores (I hope this still holds) esp.if I decide to go for the 2 upgrades after this one....

Ooooh I have a 10% back at Exxon gas stations offer on my Hilton Amex! Up to $100 through August. I have an Exxon right near work and since I'm only $95 away from maxing my CF, I won't be using Kroger Fuel as much anymore.

I see SW flights are on sale. My return flight in September went down finally! A whole 363 points :rotfl2:
Thanks! My return from CA dropped by 1,000 points, but it's such a hassle to change when you have a CP attached. I think I'll wait to see if it goes down even more before I go through the whole process.
