Ahhh. I didn't realize (or missed) that your DD would be applying for Engineering. Yes, the different Courses can have different requirements, and DD and I have focused solely on History.

I asked DD to stay in the US because of the cost/hassle of getting back and forth from CA. Now that we are playing this game tickets to/from Europe don't seem so hard to come by, and she's having a blast in Norway this year. We know other kids from here who went to Scotland for college and they seemed very happy there.

I saw someone ask but don’t think I saw any responses.
Can someone remind me of the cancellation policy if I cancel a room I booked at WDW with AA miles? I vaguely remember a fee of $150 but don’t remember what it was for. Can I pay the fee and get my points back?
Its been a rough month and I found out today that I have stage 2 cancer and need to have a chunk of my liver removed, most likely between 4-6 weeks from now. So it likes I won’t be running the half marathon or staying at the GF this year. I’m hoping we can do a trip to celebrate everything going well in a few months but at this time I have no clue when that might be.
I can't help with the AA miles situation, but I want you to know that I am so sorry you have been diagnosed and are facing treatment

It takes quite awhile, so it won't be good for this trip. Usually it comes within a couple months of sign up, but in my case, it's taking a bit longer... I think the terms say up to 14 weeks. It's a bit of a pain, but I just plan around it.
I was worried about that. I’m assuming we can use the $250 Hilton credit right away? We may just use part of the credit if we end up going.

So I decided to hit the partial panic button on my MRs in light of this shutdown buzz. I had never transferred to Hilton before, so I didn't realize the transfer ratio was 1:2 MR:Hilton. That made it a little easier to make my decision. I ended up transferring 81k MRs to Hilton (which went through no problem and was instantaneous) and have gone ahead and re-done my Glasgow reservation to a points stay. That will end up saving me more than $500 for the room and cuts my angst over potentially losing my MRs. Now I've got 37,611 MRs left that I'd still hate to lose, but not as bad as losing them all. Crossing my fingers I won't be targeted for this shutdown, because I like my suite of MR earning cards and would HATE to lose the Plat. At least DH is clean, so worst case is that I apply for a Plat for him to get our Centurion lounge access back.

Approved for the Aspire today! I am guessing the free night won’t arrive in time to use it for Christmas. My Hilton status has already upgraded to Diamond. Now to take advantage of it.

I, also, accepted a 20k MR for $3k MSR retention offer on my Plat. Now that we are headed to Australia in Aug, I thought it might be useful.

Probably not... My first one came in about 10 weeks and this round I'm already at 10 weeks and still no FN cert yet. I called about it and they said by Nov. 28th or so I should see it. That would put me at 13 weeks or so, I think. But you might be able to make use of the $250 resort credit for a free night depending on the resort.

I’m assuming we can use the $250 Hilton credit right away?
Yes, just make sure the resort you are staying at is on the list. https://www.hilton.com/resorts

Agree on the reports of the shutdowns for Amex being so scary. I just transferred half of my 400k MR's to Delta. Now second guessing if I should have done the whole amount...if it would not mean paying the excise tax fee again I might just do it. Deep breaths...

I'm really sorry about your diagnosis and just want to reach out and let you know that I'm thinking about you and I hope that things will go well. I can't help on the AA points booking.

I got over 2500 dollars in redemptions from opening the aspire. One of hotels I booked in NYC was over 1200.00 a night. I didn't know that our cruise that ended in NYC was during the UN council with the president in town. It's nice to have points when hotel rates are through the roof. I used the 250 dollar resort credit at the Waldorf in La Quinta. I used the airline credit for seat upgrades. I used my free night at the Waldorf in London.

Honestly, the Aspire card is the only card I hold that is worth the AF. The free hotel night and 250 credit more than makeup for it. I have no trouble finding a swanky 500.00 dollar a night hotel to redeem my weekend night at. I forgot to mention the diamond status. Executive lounge, free breakfast, room upgrades etc. The points also add up quickly. It's something like 32 points for every dollar spent at Hilton.

I feel the same. It's the only card with a fee that high, that I kept past the first year. I added up what I redeemed as well and it's very close to the value you did. I LOVE this card. For those of you picking it up now, remember that the $250 resort credit comes around again on your card anniversary, but the $250 airline credit resets in January, so plan how you want to use them carefully and you'll get double the value. Also, make sure you check the "Promotions" tab in your Hilton account - there's good one running through January.

Welcome fellow Kansan! :welcome:Are you open to business cards? Many of us with very small "businesses" or side hustles use those for biz cards that have some more lucrative sign up bonuses, and also to stay below Chase's 5/24 rule. For instance, the Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) has 80k ultimate rewards for a $99 annual fee. The SW Performance biz has a 70k SUB for $5k spend with $199 AF. Are you familiar with the SW CP (companion pass)? Many of us are going for the first of two SW cards right now but waiting to complete the spend till next year to get two years worth of the CP.
You're from Kansas too?? Cool!
I don't have any side businesses really. Just shop for our local All Night prom. We do have a tax ID number, but it's not in my name, of course. I bartend part time at Sprint Center and work part time at a winery in addition to my full time job.
Any advice since I don't have any businesses??

I have a few cards with a 95.00 AF that I get absolutely nothing for that AF except points for using the card. I'll be canceling those. I love my Gold Card, but can't really use the perks with the fee. This is the only card where I'm getting more value out of the AF then I'm paying. The Marriot Biz card is also good card just for the free night.
