I am also curious on this. DD did a college semester in the UK, but is contemplating grad school over there.

What field, and what level of degree? Depending on the field, if she is going for a PhD, it is harder to get a job in the US afterwards, even from the top UK universities.

I saw someone ask but don’t think I saw any responses.
Can someone remind me of the cancellation policy if I cancel a room I booked at WDW with AA miles? I vaguely remember a fee of $150 but don’t remember what it was for. Can I pay the fee and get my points back?
Its been a rough month and I found out today that I have stage 2 cancer and need to have a chunk of my liver removed, most likely between 4-6 weeks from now. So it likes I won’t be running the half marathon or staying at the GF this year. I’m hoping we can do a trip to celebrate everything going well in a few months but at this time I have no clue when that might be.
So sorry to hear about your diagnosis! I hope the procedure goes well and you are able to change that trip to celebrate good news!

I am so sorry. Prayers and good thoughts sent your way for a full recovery and a great celebratory trip soon. ❤️

@pinkxray sorry to hear I missed it in the other chatter I would reach out to everyone involved and see what they can do. Wishing you well on a quick recovery.

Masters in publishing LOL, nothing super fancy.

And maybe I've missed this question/answer in the 3213 pages before, lol, but having all these credit cards, how does it affect your credit rating?? About how many credit cards do you have open at once? How long do you keep a credit card before canceling? This is a lot of info, and I'm trying to figure it out.
I did say that I pay off my credit cards 95% of the time because every once in a while an unexpected expense comes up, and I can't swing it in one month without making myself short.

who did this? ive been doing this for years with everyone.
Verizon Wireless. I was paying a majority of my monthly bill via CC then letting a small portion auto-pay from my checking account up until June when I got that disclaimer so I didn't proceed. It wasn't worth losing the money for the points to me so I just let the auto-pay hit.

I got the $100 off $500 Amex offer, but it wouldn't be as beneficial if I lost my auto-pay savings for 3 billing cycles. I am curious if it is an empty threat OR if a gift card would circumvent losing the auto-pay discount.

It hasn't hurt my credit score. Hard pulls may bring your score down a few points for a short time. Utilization, on-time payments, and length of credit are the biggest factor. Amex doesn't do hard pulls once you are established with them. If you ever need a 0% percent offer for something unexpected. I totally understand that... it happens. A big hospital bill or huge home repair...... it's better to go with one of Amex biz 0% cards it won't show up on your credit report.

Your credit score make take a temporary dip with new HPs but that usually falls back off quickly.

The almost 100% rule is to keep a card 1 year to avoid making the bank angry. After 1 year you can cancel or product change, or keep it if it seems worth it.

Hugly variable how many cards people have. Many people keep all no-AF cards open, plus any with an AF (annual fee) that benefit them, plus cards under a year.

But I found Business Saver awards on British Airways using AA miles, so at least we'll have a more relaxing flight to Glasgow and hopefully get some sleep so we can make the most of our arrival day. I was very happily surprised to find those Saver awards available!!
That is a great find for two especially this close, and adding my public congrats to DD to go along with the private :)

Yay!! This is how I ended up with my A-List status. I was offered temporary A-List earlier this year on a promo, and then had to complete 3 flights by May 31. I did that and got my status extended through the rest of this year. It has been super nice. The guaranteed A boarding group is great, and even better is SW checking you in to that boarding group automatically if you forget or want to sleep in :) The 25% multiplier on points earning is also really nice.

Thanks, all, for the congratulations. We are really excited for her. @CaliforniaGirl09 might want to chime in as well regarding job prospects, etc. because her DD is in her last year at university in England, although she is planning on graduate school, also in the U.K.

I'm really happy about the A-list, but I'm DH's companion so it's going to be hard to justify those flights. We have three flights in the time period planned, but it wouldn't make sense for me to pay for them just to get the A-list. I"m sure I'll love it though, and I didn't realize about the point boost. Nice!

Regarding job prospects, I will indeed know a lot more in 1-3 years. DD is finishing up her undergrad and applying for her Masters (also in the UK). She may or may not apply for a PhD after (who knows where). She's studying archaeology, which was one of the big reasons she wanted to go to the UK as they get super specialized. The types of classes she's been able to take in England can't compare with what she would have taken in the US. I think her job prospects in either country will depend on what she ends up focusing on--she wants to do Forensic archaeology right now. I know a number of kids who've gone to school at St. Andrews, Edinburgh, etc., and all seem to have found jobs when they came home. There are a lot of Americans over there--especially at St. Andrews.

Still reading the Amex thread and it's chilling. :sad2: I really hope none of us get hit.
The shutdown threads are always interesting. Most of the people that get shut down don't seem that shocked by it. When you open and close cards for the SUB, MS 100k a year, and self refer it can't come as a big shock. I'm not saying it's bad for anyone to do those things, but it comes with a risk.

They aren't all doing MS... and someone didn't self refer. Usually you see something weird going on, but in this case it seems to be tons of people all at once.

Did you SEE the guy who is sitting on 6.3 million MRs, worth $78,000+ ??? Now THAT is scary.

I saw that one! OMG that's a serious amount of money to lose.

Sitting at the Orlando Amtrak waiting on the train to take me back home. This is always a tough one because DW flies out early and will be home within an hour of me boarding here, but such is life.

We ran the Fall Feast 5k and the Wine & Done 10k. I was initially disappointed that the 5k was no longer going to be in Animal Kingdom, but I ended up thoroughly enjoying the race. I stopped for a few character pictures, which I never do, and had a great time running it. The 10k was less so - 4+ miles of interstate running, then the same path through Epcot as the 5k.

I very rarely like pictures of myself, but I love this one from in front of Spaceship Earth.

Sadly, sickness struck the night before the half marathon, so I was unable to run. Super disappointed that I didn't get to test all the hard work I put in for all these months. On the plus side, I have a new personal best from the 10k to use as my qualifier for Princess weekend in February.

And... My train just pulled up! Time to board.
Love your new pic.

Just having multiple credit cards from one bank is weird. It may be normal in the churning world, but in the real world it's not normal. Most people have 2-3 cards. Nothing people do on these threads is exactly normal.[/QUOTE]
