I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

For some reason, I can't get either my new CIP or DHs to add to Paypal to pay for my ebay shipping? Keeps getting declined... Haven't used either for a week maybe but don't see any issues in DHs account at least (need to set mine up still).

Depending on how spendy we are this weekend (trip to NYC) and how much my dental work costs on Monday (much less fun), I expect to be done with the MSR on my CIP early next week. Got the Bonblech Brilliant in my wallet and ready to go as soon as the CIP MSR is done, and I'm already plotting our next move - lots of spend happening around here.

DH is starting up his new side business (after much deliberation and planning), and it will need to be very carefully segregated from our other income/expenses (he's even creating a single member LLC to hold the business), so he will NEED a business checking account and a business credit card dedicated exclusively to this venture. We are planning to invest some "seed money" to pay expenses until he starts turning a profit, so I won't have a problem meeting minimum thresholds for keeping an account fee free. Not sure that the business will have $5k of expenses within the first 3 months, but we have a couple of largish items we could run through the card to meet the MSR, then keep it exclusively for business expenses thereafter.

This pushes off the date when he will get the IHG card (need IHG points for a specific trip we're planning) but that's ok. I'm just super psyched he's finally at the point to pull the trigger on this business.

Also, I'm ridiculously excited that I'm taking the rest of the week off to go hang out in NYC with my sweet DH - a trip made swankier, less expensive and more rewarding by the wisdom of this lovely board!

My daughter really wanted to go back to public school for high school, which was fine with us. She thinks the kids at the private school were awful, but I'm still sure the overall experience was less awful than the gigantic public middle school would have been for her. I'd guess that most of the kids she is now friends with were idiots 2 years ago, she just wasn't there to see it!

Completely agree! DD's middle school was private and the children were horrible although she is in school (public) now with some of them who are still horrible, whereas some are almost human. Middle school is so terrible for the most part-it's something to endure and survive, nothing more.
That said, I'm so ready for her to go to college!

I'm kind of surprised at all the love for United here. Back when we had a toddler and they were the only option for nonstop flights to MCO and Maui and we traveled to both at least once a year they treated us so badly every time that we just hate the airline and go out of our way (including taking flights with stops now that we don't have a little one) to avoid flying with them. They wouldn't even let DH preboard (and this is with assigned seats) so he could belt in the carseat early so we didn't hold up the boarding line. So we would get on the plane and everyone would have to wait. It was awful. I can't even begin to describe how disloyal I am to that airline. We were spending tons of money to fly on these flights, 4 seats every time, and we treated like dirt. DD can fly on either United or AA to college, nonstop, and we have put her on AA every break for 4 solid years. Sorry for the rant but I really hate flying with them.

LOL! I flew United for the first time in forever this March...I think I was holding a grudge against it because I had to fly Continental to Japan on my first forced trip there in 1993 and I vowed to never fly Continental again-United is now the closest thing to that. I actually didn't mind United too much although biz class service wasn't as good as it is on Delta. That said, it appears United is my carrier of choice for trips to family against my will. I do like the new livery, though.

I'm sorry. Kids can be cruel. It is so hard to have to relive it with your kids. DD loved being the youngest in the class. Though it was rough going to college at 17 and I think it will be rough again when all her friends are 21 and she is not. Her birthday is September and our cutoff was August, so not that much younger, but with many kids being held back before kindergarten she was a full year younger than a lot of kids.

Yeah, I was always the youngest in my class, and it wasn't an issue (even when I went to college and didn't turn 21 until half way through my senior year). My little one is the youngest in her class - you have to be 5 by January 1 in the district where she started kindergarten, so she was 4 until halfway through kindergarten (just like I was!) Kids with fall birthdays who started school in other places are more than a full year older than her, as well as any kids that weren't quite ready for kindergarten and were held back. In most ways, you can't tell that she is younger (she's tall), but when she was younger you could see that some things were harder for her (esp. fine motor skills). Those things have evened out, though, over time.

I made a reservation for the Wyndham Garden next to DS through the Chase portal. I’ve been able to pull up the confirmation number on MDE but it lists two adults and two children on the reservation and on Chase where I made the reservation it says 1 adult only (which is correct). Who do I call to fix this? Is it the Disney wholesale number that I’ve seen on the Priceline thread? I suppose I could enter names of people on my Disney friends list who aren’t actually going, but I’d rather not mess with their accounts like that! MDE won’t accept the confirmation number unless I enter 3 more names.

Yep - I actually became good friends with my middle school nemesis after she grew up and stopped being evil :rotfl:

Applied for Barclay Aviator Biz last night and got the “your application is being reviewed” message. Do I let it ride or call in? I probably had 2 inquiries on my TransUnion report, wondering if that’s the issue. What’s the chance I’ll still be approved eventually? I’m hesitant to apply for Citi Biz now. My next move is CIP #2 at the end of June.

Good to know, thank you! I didn’t realize that rule applies to Chase business cards as well. I can wait, that’ll give me more time to “establish the business” :scratchin

You can go for an Amex business card while you wait. I think Amex Biz cards are better to get as a first biz card because they often give instant approvals, I never got an instant approval with a chase business card.

Have you had a Barclays card before? Could be identity verification.

No, I haven’t. Any way to expedite the process?

If you feel up to calling, you can call and ask them what you can do to be approved. For identity verification, they require you mail or fax in front and back of your driver's license, social security card, and bank statement or utility bill (this last one might have changed). No other way around it. FWIW, you are generally approved for the card once you do all this, though you may have to call them to follow up that it's all been processed.

I just checked my account and I have met the MSR on my Hilton biz - yaaay! The billing cycle closes in a couple days so I think it will show up on this, the second statement. I hope it’s not too soon for the rats, lol. They sent the first statement with only about 9 days in the billing cycle. I had to be quick to get any charges on that one at all.

Now I can finish off my CIP MSR, which will be easily met.

Hmm, good to know. I didn’t even think about AmEx, but I’m not sure they will look at me favorably right now after slashing my credit limit, and I don’t have any desire for MRs. Their simply cash card sounds comparable to the CIC, but I’d rather earn the URs. I’d also have to wait longer if I do want to go for the CIC in the future, because then I’d be 6/24 if I was approved, right? What happens when you aren’t instantly approved by Chase? Do you just have to wait for pending approval, or do you have to call in?

Totally :offtopic: except that I found a way to pay tuition via CCs but I am so glad we are moving DS to private school in the fall. It is absolutely the right decision. Apparently, the kids are now making fun of him for being younger as he just turned 12 while the other 7th graders are 13 or will be shortly. This is due to him being a bumped up a year from kindergarten to 1st grade. I thought he was upset because I wouldn't get him a pug but he finally broke down on FaceTime after 30 times calling me to tell me he wasn't going to school today and told me the real issue. He even asked to repeat 7th grade so he wouldn't stand out again at his new school. My heart is breaking for him. Middle school kids are so cruel. Just 37 more days to get through...
Hugs to you. My youngest DD refused to go back to public school for 10th grade. So I moved her to a private school where she did much better. She's now finishing up her junior year in college and doing well (at least academically). It was horrible at the time.

Amex business cards don’t add to your 5/24 count with Chase

When I’m not instantly approved with Chase I call the automated status line to check on the application

I don’t mind calling, so I did, but I couldn’t get to a person regarding application status. It told me to go online and click on the application status link, but when I complete that information it says they can’t find it. I’m sure that’s wrong. Maybe I will HUCA and try to get a person instead of selecting the application status option.

Got the Hilton Biz last night since we blew through the MSRs on x2 CIP#2s (hockey tuition!) DHs citiAA biz hasn’t arrived but one mortgage payment will take care of that. At first my app went pending and I was like oh no Amex! I have 8 card with them but this made only #4 credit. I was scared they were losing love for me but I was approved like 3 hours later!! Up next one for DH in a few weeks and Citi AA biz 2 for me on June 5th.

80k URs pending on DH's CIP 2!! Actually, technically 91k URs since I did such a big travel payment on this card. Met MSR before first statement close date (5/1).

Need to formulate my plans for next month... We discussed double dipping Hilton Honors card and CIP 2 for me. BUT I also really need to get DH another Citi AA Biz since he just hit 95 days on his card. And I still have 2k left on MSR on Bonvoy Biz. Decisions....
We are in similar spots! Just got Hilton biz after CIP2 x2. Will get another Citi AA biz and in July back to more Chaae biz cards I think!
