I always see people who post that they are afraid to fly or they hate airports.....

Am I the only one who looks forward to the airport and flying part?

You should have been in DFW on Dec 6th-7th then.:rotfl: We were supposed to fly out on Dec 6th at 0600 CT and land at MCO 0930 ET that Friday morning. Due to the ice/snow storm that hit Dallas those days, instead we got to spend a very cold night sleeping in the airport and then late the next night finally got diverted to Tampa. Even then we didn't get into Tampa until around midnight, then still had to rent a car and finally got to WDW around 0200 am Sunday morning. So instead of arrivng in sunny Orlando at 9:30am Friday morning, we got to spend two full days in the airport being transferred from terminal to terminal, every time they tried to change our flight trying to get us out of there. Friday the weather was so bad, the tram that takes people from terminal to terminal couldn't even run, so we had to either walk it or go back outside security, catch an internal van they had running, then go back through security again at the new terminal. It was an interesting two days to say the least.:rotfl: Got a chance for lots of people watching and got to really explore my home airport, which is something we've never done. It was funny! There was nothing the airlines could do about the weather, but apparently some people were expecting them to play God and miraculously get them to their destinations.:rotfl:

Something else that was funny is, I am always careful to make sure I don't wear anything to set the alarms off going through security. For some reason Friday morning I was so concerned about the weather and getting out, that I wasn't thinking and put on a pair of jeans that had what one of the TSA agents called "butt bling" on them. I knew the stones were plastic and assumed the silver rings around them were too. Nope, apparently those rings around the stones were metal. I spent all day Friday setting off those dang metal detectors every time we had to change terminals. It got to where I finally just apologized, rolled my eyes, turned, and pointed to my butt. One of the TSA agents laughed and said, "Oh butt bling". lol I got so tired of my butt being patted down by those female TSA agents that day. lol At least on Saturday the tram was running again, so we got to use it to move from terminal to terminal and didn't have to go back through security each time they changed our gate. In all over those two days they booked us on thirteen different flights and since American was trying to fly out of multiple terminals those days, that was alot of trips going from terminal to terminal.

I do not like to fly! I deal with it! I take my Bonine and wear Sea Bands!

But my DH travels allot for work and I tag along because he is always off to some fun cities!

This past year I went to Seattle, NYC 3x, Boston, Denver, Washington DC, Chicago, Philadelphia and Las Vegas!

While I do love seeing all these cities, I really don't look forward to flying or sitting around airports waiting to fly out.

You poor thing. We made a short trip before Christmas, from Dec 21-25, then going to Tampa to spend some time with the in-laws. The way your trip went, we would have spent the entire time I had off work dealing with airports. Unfortunately, had I been late getting back from my trip, my office wouldn't have had a doctor to be on call last Friday! I am glad the weather held out for us. If it hadn't been predicted to be reasonable, I would have cancelled the whole trip.

I am not afraid of airports. I have travelled all over to CME meetings. But, I am usually on a time constraint, and if I don't get back on time, there might not be anybody there to do my job. So, delays and such are definitely annoying. This past May, for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me, my flight from Denver to Indianapolis (my flight home) was delayed by about 3 hours. This was particularly interesting because the flight was originating in San Diego. Then, when they unloaded the plane in Denver, it was in the older part of the airport where they had outside ramps. But, the incoming connecting flight must have been in some special handicapped convention. They had to make a special call all over the airport to find enought wheelchairs to unload all the passengers. As a matter of fact, once the plane got there, and it was taking way longer to unload it than the airport staff had anticipated, they made the decision to use a different airplane that had been sitting at the next gate the entire 5 hours I had been waiting to take us to Indianapolis.

Going to the airport and being in the airport is one of my favorite parts of the journey. Just think: an airport is the jumping off point to adventure! I love the airport, too!

Airports are fine when things go well, but I wouldn't want to go through aubriee's experience! We have some distant travel coming up soon, and I'm praying for good weather and uneventful flights.

Getting close to that also. Before all the crap happened with 9/11 I used to LOVE going to airports and just people watch. Take my scanner and listen to the ATC. Leave early Sunday and hoping we get out before the next storm starts to affect this area. If we get off on time I'll still love airports.. If we dont, we'll probably have a period of coldness between us lol

I don't mind airports...just as long as I'm not in a big rush, in an unfamiliar airport! I like to walk around and check out new airports, but not if I'm in a rush to make a connection!

airports are definitely one of my favorite places to be. We routinely get to the airport super early so we can soak it all in. The buzz of an airport is....indescribable!

We have been in a situation somewhat similar to aubriee's...and I enjoyed it. I am a bit of a sadist that way.

I love to fly. Enjoy looking out the window while flying and always hoping for a clear day. I like to pick out various cities/landmarks on the flight.

In the airport I enjoy seeing planes moving around, taking off and landing. We usually wait for our flight in the airline lounge nice and comfortable. What I don't care for so much is the check-in and security part.

Oh, and the people who believe they should just stand in front of the gate even though its not their turn to board. :furious:

I don't mind air travel. Can't say I love it as much as I did 25 years ago. Obnoxious lines, small seats, disappearing amenities.
I remember a time when a friend could walk me to my gate. People would wait until their rows were called and then line up to board. You got a real meal, on plates! There was a free movie, pillows AND blankets!
*sigh* I try and re create all that on my own now. Download a good movie, wrap myself up in my pashmina, have some wine and some cheese I brought with me and enjoy the ride.

I like airports a lot. Train stations too. Something about the intersection of infrastructure and human activity is very interesting to me.

I don't care for the actual flying experience, though. The seats on most planes hurt my back and neck.

Being married to a pilot you have to love airports. The more connections we can make on a flight the happier he is. Our highest number of connections was 6 airports in one day. YES one day. We started flying at 7:00 a.m and finished at 2:00 a.m the next day. We were flying on Good Friday and had 3 of our flights over sold and we took the bumps to get the free flight money!

I enjoy the airport experience....especially on departure day, where we're all excited and looking forward to the vacation that we're embarking on.

Coming home, its a little sad, but we always make time to do a little shopping at the airport shops and treat ourselves at some of our favourite fast-food places (one last Krispy Kreme for the road ;) ). All very pleasurable.

The actual flying part.....not so much. If the Gravol works as its supposed to, the flight is great. If I'm over a barf bag from New York to Florida   ... well ... then its not so endearing. I envy those who don't suffer from motion sickness!!

Does your dh enjoy the airports, or the take-offs and landings??:cool1:

I'm connecting through DFW for my trip in February - I hope it goes better than Aubriee's adventure! DFW is my usual connecting airport, not just to MCO, and I actually like it - it's always kind of an adventure going through an airport, but I'm used to DFW and I love the SkyLink (the tram)!
