I just have to ask why everyone argues about their "home"

At the risk of starting another "my home is better then your home" debate (which isn't my intention), I have to ask why people are so defensive? Threads that have NOTHING to do with which resort is better end up in a fight over which one is better. I just don't get it. I would NEVER rip on any of the resorts. I have some I like beter then others but I don't look for threads where I can make nasty remarks about resorts. I swear some of you do. I have no need or desire to defend my home. When I see people rip on my home, I just laugh it off. If I could write something that would make people change their opinions, then I would. However, most of you have been on these boards forever and you all know that if a person dislikes one resort, they always will no matter what you write. So why do you guys constantly waste your time fighting about this? Why do you constantly change what the OP was about and make it about what you like or dislike about someone's "home." We live in a world that is suppose to function on tolerance and most of you can't even tolerate other peoples choice in resorts? That is ridiculous. I love The Dis. I love the DVC boards for the useful info. But I am sick and tired of theads turning into something completely different then originally intended. If you guys would stop responding to the same old people who do this, then the rest of us wouldn't have to weed through so much garbage just to read the posts. I am off my soap box now. Flame away.

I totally agree. I enjoy reading different threads, but many of them end up in a "my home is better than yours" debate. I don't post very often, but there seems to be a bit of snobbery over home resorts at times. No one here is any better or has better taste than anyone else. And no one resort is better than any other. They were designed distinctively different to appeal to different people. We should all respect that. It gets really old really fast, the way certain threads end up in the home resort debate, especially when it has nothing to do with the op's opening question or comment.

I agree with you Lisa.

My only difference is that it is hard for my dw and I to laugh-off the rips to BCV. We have not been home yet. We are very anxiously awaiting our Feb trip.

We both live be the same motto: Listen to other's comments about other people, places and things, but reserve judgement for ourselves.

I am glad to say that BCV should be the best for my family's travel plans and WDW desires.

Hi, LisaR. Personally, I don't see anything to rip other resorts about. Each resort has strong and weak points. This can be further complicated because what someone considers a strong point, may be a weak point for someone else.
All of the DVC resorts are beautiful and themed to Disney quality standards, so in my opinion, the only thing left is personal taste.

Okay, I'll make that less wordy... I agree with you!!! :teeth:

That is the right appraoch. A few people enjoy "getting other people going" by making such remarks. I never get offended by comments about our DVC homes, only when comments are made about the people who own them.

I agree completely and this is part of the reason why I have gone back to being a lurker most of the time. For me this goes beyond just resort bashing. I used to enjoy posting on the DIS, but quite honestly, I don't find getting flamed for posting on a thread or asking a question much fun and most of the time unnecessary. I don't really like watching it happen to others either and this seems to be occurring more and more frequently. I wonder at times how many others have quit posting or have left the DIS entirely because some can't play nice in the sandbox. That's it for me, I'll go back to the shadows now.

a post about being disappointed in one DVC metamorphosized into something else.

I really enjoy these boards and there is truly some great info to be shared. Without these boards there is no way I would have purchased DVC. I purchased 3 of the 5 WDW DVC's so there's no way Im getting into a argument about which one is better because I liked them all enough to invest a large sum of money.

I am just glad that all this was not going on when I really needed help. I do empathize with the new posters that come here for guidance to find a bunch of nit picking and innuendo.

Many of us purchased or made our decision based on what was shared on these boards. Even when the threads digress, I have found there are still some helpful jewels posted so I suffer through what's not relevent to me. There are also far more positive people on this board than negative. The negative just post more or at least it seems.

I also refuse to let what's posted on these boards affect the way my family vacation. There are always going to be disagreements in how one chooses to use their points or where, or renting, or size of unit or occupancy. I will choose what's best for my family.

If you try to conform to the opinions on this board you would never leave your house so that there would be more availability, more parking, better views, less crowding, less wear n tear on the units, and more lounges at the pool for the much more "deserving" members.

I think it was DrTomorrow who referred to this board as a family, and up until recently, that would have been suitable. But you know there are always family members that have to feel superior. Because DVC allows you to stay at any resort with availability, who cares where you own? If you do care, then buy there! If you dont, then any old DVC will do.

Hi,

I agree!! I plan on trying all the DVC resorts. No matter what!! We are all different & if we're happy with DVC that's all that matters!!

I agree with you all.

I think that the problem lately has been a passionate disagreement between a few parties in an earlier thread.

And since that "argument" was never resolved to the satisfaction of some people (there are NO absolute right answers), those issues and posters have spilled into other threads.

I am an owner at both resorts in question and can see points on both sides. However, I think some people's posts come across more annoying then others - even if they make valid points. And because some posts come across rude or annoying, people tend to respond directly to it and pretty soon, things become personal and even uglier.

It's actually good to disagree and discuss and even agrue about certain issues That's how we learn from each other. But sometimes people just can't let it go and keep posting their "point" - I know that many of us is guilty of this, myself included.

But there are some that take it to the extreme - they keep posting the same thing over and over and over again! What for? In the hopes of making their point for the 200th time? Or swaying others to their side? Or getting the opposing poster to admit defeat even if they don't change their mind? Maybe it just boils down to getting in the LAST WORD!

I can take some resort "bashing" - it's actually expected because people are passionate about their home resorts. It's those that keep "bashing me" over the head with their points of view like they must engrave it into every fiber of my being that bothers me!

Here's a interesting article about internet trolls that might to worth reading:

http://members.aol.com/intwg/trolls.htm

Please note that I DON"T BELIEVE THAT ANYONE HERE ON THE DVC BOARDS IS ACTUALLY AN INTERNET TROLL based on the above definition!

However, after saying this, I think some posters on SOME threads may appear to exhibit some troll-like qualities such as being deliberatelly annoying or arguing endlessly about their point of view. I INCLUDE MYSELF IN THIS CATEGORY - upon occasion!! ::yes:: Some of those posters are more annoying then others - at certain times - and some are merely pests that can even be occasionally amusing.

The funny thing is sometimes, people on opposing sides may even view each other as the "troll-like" poster!

Only one way to deal with posts or posters that become "troll-like" or you feel is "troll-like"- stop responding to them! Harder to say then to do sometimes, I know! But after 10+ pages of posts -there comes a time where you have to let some threads DIE!!!!

This is all my opiniion, of course!!

This is true for many people. Many of us find it very hard to hear over and over again untrue comments, lies, and exaggerrations about our home resort and the resorts owners. For a very long time all DVC resorts except OKW were constantly being ripped apart on this board especially BWV, by certain people under the guise of humor. Finally some here got sick of the constant put downs to their home resort got fed up and started posting back.

Yes, but at what price? It gets very old very fast.

SleepyatDVC: Great post. Now we have a name, "trolls" for those who view resort bashing as a sport. Very interesting.

It got old very fast with the constant put downs of BWV etc before some started posting back. The same old posts regarding BWV etc have still not stopped, so people still get fed up with the continual lies, exaggerations etc and post back.

Good advice, but sometimes hard to do. I, myself, will try to remember this next time I'm in such a position.

Because sometimes, "posting back" or bashing back makes me look and sound no better and maybe even worse than the original offender. It may even ALIENATE those posters that actually agree with some of my views.

So, let's all learn to laugh it off ...

I think the most prolific of the bashers is just some whiny cry baby who used to get knocked down and have his lunch money taken from him as a child.

Without this board, he would never get anyone to talk to him.
