I Hope you can Help!!

That SSI paper they send to tell how much you qualify for Reads SSI at age 67 $0.00 at age 72 $0.00 Disabity $0.00 Medicare $0.00

I don't know much about SSI, or Medicaid, but I do work with Medicare, every day.

Your husband doesn't have Medicare taxes taken out of his paycheck? I guess I should ask: does your husband work?

You receive Medicare because you EARN it. If neither of you pay taxes into the system, you won't get any out of it, I guess. Start paying into it, and you will eventually earn Medicare, the way most people do.

If you make too much money for Medicaid, then that's more proof that the system works. It's for poor people, and apparently, you're not that poor.

Someone at the state health care said if I could qualify on my own income[not Dh's income] then i might be able to get on healthcare, but I could not make income more than $40.00 a month to qualify. I know is stupid and probably is a waste of time, but how can I not at least try to save my family from crippling $200,000.00 a year of hospital debt? Not trying and continuing this way in all this debt will kill my Dh? So, I must try.

So what exactly will a w2 showing $480.00 earnings for the year do? What state are you in that you would be advised to "earn" $40.00 per month? I'm sure that your church that you "volunteer" at would be able to list you as more than a "lay" person if it would somehow allow you better medical benefit. This just doesn't add up, sorry.

Yes HE did!! That doesn't help me. But I haven't worked since 1986 so did not.

You're still not explaining your situation at all.

If you are disabled, you should be able to get Medicare!! You have to have the disability for at least 24 months. (I usually deal with people who age into Medicare, at age 65, and get it because they've worked the required 40 quarters, I don't deal with those who have it because of a disability too often.)

If you've had your disability for at least 2 years, call Medicare. If you can't get Medicare, and have had the disability for 2 years, then there's something you're not telling us.

Edited to add, there's a ton of women in their 80s, who never held a paying job or had Medicare taken out of any paycheck, because they never HAD a paycheck. But their husbands DID. So, the wives get Medicare too. SO WILL YOU-if your husband earns Medicare, eventually, at age 65 you will too.

But, again, if you're under 65 and disabled, you will be able to get it on your own!

Arizona. Wher nothing make a lick of sense!! where the Governor pokes her finger in the Presidents Face and yells at him about health care and immigration. And pic is tweet out!! That kind of state. Where cowboys pack guns on there hips in full view as they shop in walmart. Where the state wants arm students on college campuses to end gun violence. Where legal USA children of illegal immigrate parents can't get a drivers licence but they can pay thousands of dollars to go to state schools and that is ok, but they can't drive?? that kind of state. Where Gabby Gifford was shot in front of a Safeway grocery store by a certifiable crazy, who did not want to take his meds. That kind of state.....

Well, that certainly helps. You don't seem to want to explain your personal situation, so I can't help. Sorry.

Honestly it is the same in most states... here in FL I can not get medical care because I am 45 and have no children under the age of 18 at home. While I can get pre-existing insurance coverage through pcip (obama care) at a cost of $307 per month I have not been able to find a job for 2 years.

My husband is also looking for work as he lost his job in October, I am a full time student in College and because I am not working at least 20 hours per week we can only get food stamps for him, they will not add me to the benefits because I am a student. Mind you when I was working and not in school we were getting $367 per month food stamps, now with neither working we get $200 per month. Lucky for us however we do not have a mortgage or rent payment because our home my husband purchased 30 years ago when he was 18. His parents have a fund set up for each of the siblings that was supposed to be for when they pass away, but they dip into it monthly to pay the electric/water and such.

We collect and sell scrap metal, he helps the neighbors when they need their lawns mowed, minor car repairs or whatever we can do in order to pay what we have to pay. We cut our cell phones to $30 a month with h20 wireless, unlimited talk/text. We do not have cable or satellite tv, we do have the roku box with a subscription to Netflix @ $8 a month, Hulu+ @ $8 a month, playon @40 for lifetime and Amazon Prime the netflix/hulu accounts are shared with my kids and they each pay 1/4 of it, so no biggy there, Amazon Prime was signed up as the student level and the kids surprised me by paying the annual fee for it as a gift a few months ago.

Reading what Arizona offers it seems that a 1099 position will not work either as it does state you must be paying taxes...

This is what I found for the Working Disabled

This program has a premium of up to $35.00 per month.

Let me give this a shot. My guess is that AZ's state health care is available to working people only. So, the OP must work and get a W2 to qualify. BUT her combined income with her DH must not be above a certain amount or does does NOT qualify. So. she needs to keep her combined income under DH's income plus $40 per month. Am I right?

As for a job that pays so little but still does the paperwork, I am at a loss. You say that your church only has volunteers, but if you spoke to your pastor/priest and explained what you need they may find a paying job for you.

I'm still not sure why you are not eligible for SSDI if you have been disabled since 1986. It would seem that someone (doctor, hospital, etc) has dropped the ball.

my church has NO paid positions (not even the leaders get paid. Everybody a regular 9-5 day job that has absolutely nothing to do with the church), Everything is a volunteer Calling that can be accepted or rejected.

This post has gone past what I meant it to be... I was just hoping for some ideas for simple jobs that don't pay a lot to try and get back on my state health care. As for those who are wondering why I do not qualify for SSI Disability, it is because I was a Stay-at-Home Mother for most of my adult life. I tried to apply and was denied because I do not have enough past work experience so even though I am disabled I feel like I'm being punished for choosing to stay home and raise my Dd and none of the charity work I did (ie Head Start) counts as work.

I haven't been disabled since 1986, I haven't *worked* since 1986 (when my Dd was born). I became disabled in 2003 or 2004 when my Dd was a Senior in H.S.

Ah, sorry. That stinks {{hugs}}.

My advice is to move to NY state.:rotfl2:

But seriously why don't you qualify for SSI? If you're disabled and cannot work why wouldn't you qualify for this? It's a federal program. Then would medicaid come with this? My friend's qualified for SSI after being disabled at 18yo from a car accident. He receives SSI and medicaid. Also a bunch of my in-laws including children receive SSI for what I'll never understand, but they get some doc to label them with (insert some vague disability) and walla monthy checks.

I don't understand this because I have in-laws who have never worked a day in their lives, who don't even speak English who qualify for SSI. SSI isn't social security. Also if you get denied you should reapply, and reapply until you are approved.

I know this isn't what you were asking, but did you check into if the hospital where you owe so much money has a charity program that you could apply for? Most hospitals have a program to help people who are uninsured or underinsured and owe large amounts of money, but they don't usually offer this information, you have to ask about it. If you haven't already, call the hospital and ask if they have a charity program that you could apply for to see if you might qualify. Sometimes they will forgive a portion or even 100% of the bill if you qualify. I work in medical billing, and whenever patients call in with a large bill that they are stuck paying out of pocket, the first question we ask is if they have applied for the hospital charity program.

Shagley - Thank-you I will call after the holidays to see what can be done!!
