I don’t know where we’re staying, but I know where we’re eating! May 2011 *NEW 5/10!

First- I have a furniture update: our dining room table top is scheduled for delivery on April 26th. That's 1 month and 11 days after it was supposed to be here. AWE-some, Bob's. :sad2:
Let's see if it really does arrive before we leave for our trip...

Ben asked me if I had shared our latest countdown picture, and I realized I hadn't! Here it is:

Mickey's hand is making the '3' for the the 30's. Can't wait to see what the 20's will have in store!

Guess what? I pre-ordered a Photopass CD! When I saw how much cheaper it is to buy it before the trip, I just had to. Ben and I ended up buying the unlimited picture option of Sandals' version of Photopass on our honeymoon, so I am pretty sure this will end up being a good buy! We just have to make a point of getting tons of PP pictures taken!

We also received our $100 gift card for opening a Disney Visa:

This will be spent on food and/or alcohol. For sure. Those are the two things we buy the most in WDW- who needs souvenirs when you can get a drink? ;)

As much as I feel like the trip will never get here, April is shaping up to be a doozy and I think time will go by quickly, after all.

I made the schedule at work and mine is kinda crappy. We have a very small staff and when day-off requests get made by others (especially when I know I am about to take 9 days off in a row in May and have a little guilt about that)... well, it makes it hard to plan a schedule that isn't terrible. Turns out I won't be able to take the day before we leave off, after all. Which isn't all bad- I'd probably be too antsy if I didn't have work to take my mind off the trip.

The one weekend I do have off is for a wedding we are traveling to Maryland for. That's 2 weeks before the trip, we are driving down Friday, wedding Saturday, and driving back Sunday.

The week before the trip is Easter, and our actual 1st anniversary.

Because of Easter (and the fact that I am working), we don't have any wild plans to celebrate (don't feel sorry for yourself, Joyce- a week later you are celebrating in WDW! I hafta keep telling myself that...) Since we don't have any wedding cake saved, I am going to try to get a reasonable small facsimile from the bakery that made it last year.

Ready for me to go off on a tangent? You're in luck- I feel one coming on!
Why don't we have our cake? Well... this is what our cake looked like:
454.jpg

See the pretty Gerbera daisies on top? They were still there when I peeked in the box after we got back from our week in Jamaica, all brown and gross looking.
So we made a snap decision to eat the cake then, to see if it was ruined. The frosting tasted like flowers (not a good thing), but the cake was OK once we scraped it off.

So, in addition to working the weekend straight through our 1st anniversary, I also will be pet sitting that week (just stopping in to feed a couple cats each day). Which is good cause it is a little extra food and booze money, but bad cause it will mean I get home from work later each day.

Sooo... looks like maybe I should start packing sooner rather than later, huh?

Hi-Larious. I dont know what it is about the "MUST. SAVE. CAKE." Mentality, but somehow it effects us all. When Kris and I were married, they boxed up the whole top - complete with all 4 layers of foil and junk... that Saturday night. Sunday we woke up, had brunch, packed for St. Lucia... and ate the cake. :lmao: Swear to you. By 8pm I was elbow deep in vanilla almond cake, wrestling the fork away from him, convincing each other that it would NEVER taste this good a year from now. No regrets!

So I say good for you! I mean, not for the buttercream turning into Gerberacream ... but being cake-less on your one year. Bust out the bubbly and laugh about the story. Thats what matters anyway.

Congratulations on your *almost* anniversary!!!! Lets make a dinner plan for when you get back from your trip. We used to live up there, so it will be easy to find a place! (and we can shamelessly pick your DVC brains!)

You cake story made me laugh. How icky!! Course.... I think most people who try and save their cake for the one year end up with icky... so don't feel bad. At least your cake story is unique... not just a "stored in the freezer for a year and it sucked up all the freezer taste" type of story. ;)

Hope despite your working that your anniversary is a nice one!!

It's true- eating the cake a year later just wouldn't have been the same!
Since it'll be Easter on our anniversary, maybe I'll just get a big ol' honkin' chocolate bunny and we can gnaw on that to celebrate. Mmmm... chocolate bunny!

Ben is all set to give you guys all of his DVC ideas. He read your TR today while he was 'working' (I think seeing Kris' Give a Hoot shirt was more than he could resist!) Can't wait to meet for real!

Plus, now we have an excuse to get new cake! And I love cake!

Even with working, it should be a good anniversary- after all, we'll be in WDW shortly after for the real celebrating!

Hi, I'm finally here, and all caught up! I love how you guys just keep adding days to the trip! :rotfl: And I really have to read your TR to find out how you ended up buying DVC, that is one of my life goals, although my DH wants nothing to do with it! :rolleyes1 I can't believe your trip is so close, I'm so jealous!!!

Cool countdown pic, v cute :)

Coolbeans about the Gift Certificate for Disney, will come in nice and handy for you :)

April is here and before you know it it will be gone and you are ready to go!!! :yay:

Doing a one month dance for you

Yeah, we started off with a non WDW trip, then changed to a short WDW trip. But then realized that there was no reason not to go all week... it's an addiction!
With DVC, a huge part of what sold Ben were the non-WDW DVC properties (Hiltion Head, Vero Beach and the new Hawaii resort) Those are places we want to travel to as well, and that way not all of our trips are to WDW. Win/win!

We weren't sure the gift card would come in time, so I was very happy to see it!
Under a month for us, now! :yay:

That is a beautiful cake! But yeah - dead flower flavored cake doesn't sound too appealing.

I can't believe your trip is coming up so quickly! When I first looked at the countdown picture I thought it said 13. I was like - wait, how is that possible?! :lmao:

who needs souvenirs when you can get a drink? ;)

I could not agree with this statement more! :thumbsup2

Hilarious story about your cake. Our cake top was wrapped up so well that it actually kept in the freezer and tasted really good on our first anniversary. I couldn't believe it! I love how you had your cake decorated.

And hopefully your furniture will arrive sooner rather than later.

Nope, not a good flavor- I would not recommend it for your upcoming wedding! :rotfl:

I changed my ticker to days... it is much more satisfying than weeks!

I'm glad your cake made it to your anniversary! I've been thinking about cake a lot lately, so I know I'm going to get some for us to snarf up on our Easterversary

If the furniture makes it before the trip, I'll be stoked!

27 DAYS!!?!??? THATS COMING SO FAST!!!

Do you still need to get anything for your trip? Are you bringing anything for an owners locker? Surprises for Ben?

I know, I know... Im so excited for you. I had no idea it was THAT soon! :thumbsup2

Haha, I wish I didn't know how soon it was... I am already having trouble sleeping because I am too excited! But do you see what a difference it makes to have your ticker in days, rather than weeks?

I'll have an update for this PTR soon!
But I don't know what an owners locker is...

Before I get into the actual point of this update (not promising that there is going to be an actual point to it :rotfl: ), I wanted to share a funny thing that Ben has to deal with a lot...

Lots of times, when he is speaking on the phone to someone he does not know, that person will think he is a woman. It happens when he is working, or calling customer service for something. It also happens frequently when he is calling to order food. He get's called 'ma'am', which you would think would be weird once they ask his name and he answers 'Ben'. But these folks are usually so sure he is a woman, that instead of hearing 'Ben', they hear:

IMG_4991.jpg

That's right, this happens all the time. Even as recently as Saturday. We think it's pretty funny.

Guess what else? We're going to Disney in less than a month! How do I know? Because our countdown looks like this:

IMG_4992.jpg

Ridiculously exciting! On one hand, I still feel like the trip is ages away- there are a lot of other things going on this month that have to happen before it can be May. But on the other hand... twenty-seven days!!!!!

Ahem. I have pulled it together enough to move on.

There are a few things that still need to be done before we go:
  • Make LGMH
  • Pack
  • Print out park hours, meal ADR and tour reservation #'s. I almost forgot to do this last year!
  • Download new books for my eReader
  • Buy stuff we want to bring: bagels or English muffins (since we will have a toaster), cereal, granola bars, rum (cause we can put it in our refillable mugs with some Coke and save money on drinking drinks), powdered laundry detergent (even though we have a studio, it is our understanding that being DVC members means we can use the laundry room w/o charge. Are we wrong about that?)
  • Make sure the friend who always keeps our cats alive while we are gone will continue to do so, instead of just assuming she will.

Nothing that needs to happen right away, so I am left just anxiously waiting for the next twenty-seven days (eeeee!) to go by.

LOL...that's an important one! :rotfl:

27 DAYS!!! Yay!!! :dance3: It will be here before you know it! :goodvibes

PS-I started my PTR for October, come on over when you get a chance!

Lol poor Ben, must be frustrating at times esp when they don't want to hand the food over to a guy

Woo Hoo for 26 days :yay:

Aw, poor Ben!

I can't believe your trip is so close! You know April is gonna fly by!!

That's interesting about doing laundry for free. I'm not a DVC member (just rent points for now), but I've never heard of that perk. Let me know if you find out (another incentive to buy some day!)

And I'm right there with ya about the rum! :thumbsup2 We didn't do that last time (mainly because I was pregnant ) but I fully plan on having a few beverages while at Disney. And the more we can drink for the least amount of $$$, the better!!!! I'm actually planning to stop by that gas station near DTD (Hess, I think?) and get a few grocery items and maybe some beer for DH. They're way too expensive in the hotels and parks! :scared1:

I'm on board. Went back and started reading your last TR. We too loved the Portofino Bay hotel. We were the 4 times and even got married there. Our wedding pics are great!

When Ben first told me about this 'problem', I couldn't believe it! But I've now witnessed it myself many times. We just laugh about it, now!

Yeah, I am pretty sure I remember our DVC sales dude telling us that since studios don't have laundry machines, you can use the laundry room facilities at no charge. But I'll believe it when I see it! Will definitely report back when I know more!

Disney alcohol is sooper expensive! We will probably make a trip to pick up the rum once we get down there... the last thing I would need is for my whole suitcase to smell like booze because of a broken bottle :rotfl:

Thanks for reading! I love that you got married at Portofino Bay! I can only imagine how gorgeous that was. PB is probably my favorite resort ever. I really hope we go back some day...
