Hurricane Dorian - SWA/Delta/AA/JB waivers available

I'm supposed to leave out of Long Island at a 6am flight. I am flying Southwest and have the option to rebook. Not sure what I should do. I'm tempted to wait a few more days and see what happens.

11 oclock has upgraded the storm hitting florida a bit north of orlando. Still early, but needs to be watched carefully

Cute.

Here's a sobering picture. Looks like 40+% chance of tropical storm winds in Orlando Saturday afternoon/evening, with increasing probability and intensity through Monday.

Is that pocket of localized intensity in the area between bermuda and SC another low pressure system it's absorbing?

No, that's tropical depression Erin, which will move out to the NE.

That last map is a wind probability map -- not a weather map.

And if I tweak that map a bit, it shows 10-20% chance of hurricane force winds in Orlando by Saturday/Sunday.

That's a separate tropical depression that was once Tropical Storm Erin. It is moving northeast.

And they have now said it will move up at day and they changed it from a cat 2 to a cat 3 hurricane. So it was suppose to hit Florida on Sun and Mon now its Sat and Sun. It is also suppose to grow in size and have 135 mph winds.

We're scheduled to fly into MCO on Thurs and return home on Wed. Of course it's still too early to predict what impacts Dorian could have on Orlando, but how difficult would it be to rent a car to drive home if we decide to cut the trip short and airlines have stopped flying? Thanks.
You can reserve a car just in case. You don't have pay anything to make a reservation they will charge you when you actually pick up the car if you have to drive. Get something that is fuel efficient as there will be a run on gas and stations run dry.

Tropical storm force winds, yes. >39 mph. They'll be well out in front of the hurricane force, but there is a slight chance of stronger by Sat/Sun

So all the latest reports within the past hour Dorian at a Cat 3 hitting Florida on Monday! So my guess is all Orlando flights will be canceled? We are scheduled to fly out of Orlando on Monday evening and I am seriously thinking of cancelling the entire trip.
Really can't get stuck in Disney as much as I would love to. High school and college kids need to be back in class. Can't miss days waiting to get out.

I have never been in Florida during a hurricane. From most of the models I just watched this past hour it is almost for sure hitting the east coast of Florida somewhere mid to north range. Will Orlando shut the airport down?

Thinking I may be better off moving our trip dates. Would love to hear from locals and people that have experienced this before.

So...I'm not a particularly experienced flyer, especially not in this kind of situation. Looking for some advice here. We are flying in on Southwest from MKE on Sunday and our flight is scheduled to land at 12:50 PM. They are allowing us to change our flight, and we are considering changing it to land at about 10:00 AM Saturday morning. Do you guys think this is early enough that the flight wouldn't be canceled? I'm not too worried about riding the storm out at the resort...I just want to be on the ground before it gets bad. Obviously they wouldn't fly in bad weather anyway. This is our DVC welcome home visit, and we borrowed points to make the reservation. Because of our use year, if we don't use them we'll be out the points. TIA for your help/advice!!
Can you change it to Friday night? Even if that means staying offsite for a day or two before your reservation starts onsite?

Predicting where, when, and at what intensity this thing will hit is a crapshoot right now.

Look how many times it's changed in the last 4 hours.

Wait until at earliest late tomorrow afternoon.

It ihas actually shifted a bit east. It had it coming in more closely , futher south and earlier in previous models.
Projections have shifted it much further to the left (west) making a direct hit on FL's east coast. For up to date, concise, FACTUAL information, follow Denis Phillips out of Tampa Bay.

We are supposed to fly into MCO next Thursday (Sept 5th) and I am not the least bit worried about our trip. It should be done and gone by Wednesday at the latest, unless it stops.
