How well you know the decks?

Hello all!
We are getting geared up for out 1st Disney cruise and trying to process all the great info we've read on these boards!
We have been booked in the cabin all the way aft and last on the starboard side, category 4. (Rm. # 8598).
Is there a staircase directly behind this room between us and the rooms at the back of the ship ? It is very hard to tell on the maps what that is behind (both) the last rooms on the sides of the ship on deck 8.
And if it is a staircase, does it lead to upper as well as lower decks?? And if so, couldn't that be a noisy location??
Also we are supposed to have a verandah....will this room have a navigator's verandah or plexiglass verandah or other?
We are hoping for the best but fearing the worst.
We booked this with our DVC points and are a little worried that they gave us the DVC treatment.
You know, all the "same stuff" but a lower level of service.
Our trip is on spring break this March so I'm thinking that our chances of switching cabins or (an upgrade) are impossible.
Please reassure me?? I know the odds are slim, however I am hoping some of you might know...or better yet stayed in "that" cabin and loved it???

The stairwell that is next to your room is a CREW only access... it is the emergency stairwell for Muster stations for your section of the ship so during the lifeboat drill you will more than likely use it but during the sailing it will be closed to guests so no need to worry about foot traffic and lots of noise coming from there.

As for the verandahs it does not have the plexiglass but it does have the fully open top. So when you are sitting you will not be able to see out of the bottom portion of the verandah but the top will be just like the other balcony rooms (not like the true navigators where the top is open but is porthole size) Check out castawayclub.com and look at the pictures listed underAft metal vs "Regular verandahs and you will get a great idea of what you have. In my opinion the room is great. Sure you don't have the plexiglass bottom on the verandah but it is still a great room

Also if you go to http://www.cruise-addicts.com/picturepost/indexalpha.php and look at Disney Magic-Great Photo in the gallery it will bring up a picture of the aft of the ship. The rooms that look like portholes are the navigators verandahs, the ones behind those that have the solid bottom is where you room would be

The stairway leads up to Deck 9 and Topsiders. Lots of people on Deck 8 use it but there is very little noise. It does not go down from there, just up.

That's right... Sorry, it was the ones at the front of the ship that were for the Muster station (crew only access) that was a different sailing We never used the ones from deck 8...

One thing to remember about the location of your room is to make sure you use the aft balcony that is located between the suites...there is a door that goes out to it, it is really nice and most people don't even know it is there (we sailed 4 times before we found it ) The have this aft baclony on deck 7 and 8 (one of them has lounge chairs as well as tables and chairs, but I can't remember which one (I think it is the deck 7 one, but check them both out)...

I'm with ms1 on this one. You are actually in a pretty good cabin. The stairwell goes to deck 9 just outside Topsider's Buffet. Last March we were in 8102 which is on the other side of the ship but we did use these stairwells to get to Topsider's. Since they are at the very back of the ship not many people know about the stairs so they do not get a lot of use and I do not think you will have any problem with noise. You are also near the aft elevators and stairs which is pretty convenient. You will have the metal verandah instead of a plexiglass one but that did not really bother us, and you should not have too much noise from above because you are under the inside portion of Topsider's. Most of the compaints about noise on deck 9 are when the chairs are moved around on the floor. Topsider's is carpeted so you should not have any problems. Have a great cruise. We are going in April and I can't wait.

This seems like the place to ask this ? We are in 8060 on the Wonder. Does anyone know what kind of viranda we will have metal or plexiglass? Is this a good location on this deck?

8598 has the solid opaque railing. 8060 has a transparent railing.

Yes there is a small, quiet staircase that goes up to Deck 9. There is also a larger staircase that goes down to Deck 7.

Thank you Dave for the info. We are so excited to be able to look out at the ocean and won't have to pick anyone up to see.
My 10 year dd just asked if she could have time to sit and look out and daydream at the ocean. I'll be with her!
