How to get to Florida Mall-no car.

Yeah, I was aware from looking at the map that I'd have to walk a short distance to get the 42. I'm assuming the 8 departs from the same area in which the 50 arrives?

Thanks again for all your advice Kath, you're quite the expert! :goodvibes

It would take you about 10 minutes to walk to the stop to catch the 42; the 8 departs from the same stop the 50 drops you off at :thumbsup2

I have done Orlando using purely public transport three times now; this year will be our fourth trip. I am more and more impressed each time I visit.

Oh and my bus passes arrived on my doorstep in the UK 5 days after I ordered them - posted from Orlando at no cost. Gotta love the service :thumbsup2

It takes about 40 minutes to get from DTD to the FL mall usually.
No. You need to catch the 50 from the TTC or DTD to Sea World and then transfer to the 8 to Premium Outlets.

The easiest way from Disney is to take the 50 to Sea World and then change to the 8 to the Prime Outlets.

The 50 and the 42 don't intersect so you would have to walk a block or two to the bus stop to catch the 42. Taking the 8 is much easier.
Thanks Kath. Which one goes the same way? Do you get on the number 8 from the same stop to premium Outlets or Prime Outlet/W&W?

I would love a sticky on this too! We are only going for 7 days in December and really don't want to hire a car if I can help it. My DD17 is nagging me to get a car because she wants to go to the Mall and to be honest, I will probably need to go to the mall the day after we get there to pick up some xmas pressies for DD8.
We also have universal tickets so I thought I would have to get a car, be really nice to be able to do it all by bus :thumbsup2

OK here's the deal, if I remember correctly....

The 50 drops you off outside Sea World.
To go to Prime Outlets, Wet 'n' Wild, I-Drive etc. on the 8, you don't need to cross the road.
To go to Premium Outlets on the 8, you need to cross the road.
The buses stay on front of them where they are headed.

Often the I-Ride trolley stops at the same stops as Lynx, or very nearby. ALL of the I-Ride trolley maps have a map on them showing the route (Prime Outlets to Premium Outlets) so you can figure out from those which side of the street you need to be on, too.

The I-Ride trolley is also an extremely good service and comes highly recommended; they often are cheaper than Lynx buses and stop more frequently but they are often more crowded.

You don't need a car; the mall is easy to get to on the bus. Unless you need a car for another reason, it'll save you several hundred pounds to just use the buses. For two people for 11 days last year, it cost us $50 LESS to use buses and taxis than it would have cost just for parking at the theme parks, never mind the cost of car rental + gas.

Subbing so I can find this for our September trip :D

Glad this is back on the front page as i've not taking a note yet. Any chance that we could have a sticky?

Just to recap, we used the Lynx buses for ten days last month. We stayed on International Drive and used them to visit the Prime Outlets, Premium Outlets, Florida Mall and Mall at Milennia, as well as our journeys to/from the airport and countless trips up and down I-Drive area to restaurants.

Total cost for 2 adults came to $36 for ten days :thumbsup2
(For comparison, that's three days' worth of parking fees).

Longest we waited for a bus was 10 minutes.
Always got a seat. Buses were very clean. Bus drivers very helpful, polite and friendly. Very relaxing to not have to worry about driving.

We took two taxis; they cost $8 each (from City Walk, when we left after the last bus).

If you're going somewhere that you have plenty of time to both get there and spend there...like the mall...you will save money by using Lynx. However it will take almost two hours...yes two hours...from DTD to Universal using Lynx. Depending on when you're going in December, the Universal parks close anywhere from 6pm to 10pm. I would not recommend using Lynx for getting to the theme parks. Theme park tickets are too expensive to spend two hours sitting on a bus when you can go from DTD to Universal in about 30 minutes by cab.

Just something to think about.
;)

Two hours?! :scared1:

Taxi it is then!! :rotfl:

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Does the iRide Trolley not stop near Universal? If you got a taxi from DTD to the nearest I-Trolley stop you could save by taking the Trolley from there. I know they operate from Premium Mall's back parking lot, so that is about $15 with a tip to get there by taxi. Now if I could be sure that the trolley stopped near enough to a supermarket in a spot where it is safe enough to walk from the bus stop to the supermarket, I may explore that as an alternative.

Actually...according to the website, the shortest time is something like 1 hour and 39 minutes...but you get the point.

The trolley stops across from Universal on Kirkman Road...you would have to walk across the street and onto Universal property.

Yeah, it's far too long when it takes around 20 minutes in a taxi.

I hadn't considered the I-Trolley. Is the walk a long one?

Just as an alternative, there's always Mears. We always use them to get to Universal/IOA/SeaWorld etc

$18.00 per person for a roundtrip. Considerably more expensive than the Lynx buses, but we go via VH and at least have that paid for at the start of the holiday, and can use our credit cards for it.

I think they go to Florida Mall too, albeit on a more limited schedule. Thats $18.00 roundtrip each too, from a Disney hotel anyway

 hadn't really thought about the time it would take to travel. As we are only there for 7 days and the parks will be madly busy, I think we have decided to hire a car... will stop DD from moaning anyway  I know there will be the parking to pay, but we are only going to Universal once, maybe twice at the most. Most of our time will be at WDW and the occasional trip to the mall and walmart. Priced up the car hire and it works out at 120 for the week for an economy so might be best to do that and save the hassle

Nah...it's only about 15 minutes from the trolley stop to the parks...maybe a little longer if you walk slowly. Just be careful crossing Kirkman Road. It's sort of like Frogger...you remember that game? Lots of crazy drivers down here.

Oh great! That puts me back in a taxi :rotfl: I really don't like crossing busy roads - especially when the traffic is coming from the wrong side ;) From where the i-Trolley stops, can you get another Trolley or a taxi without crossing? Actually I don't know why I am asking this - I want to go to Premium Outlets and Publix, lol! :upsidedow But I am not deleting that as the response may be useful to others on here. :goodvibes

That's because the Lynx website assumes you are unable to WALK. It is a 20-30 minute bus ride plus a 10 minute very nice walk. :headache:

As do the 8 and 42 buses which you can connect to for FREE from DTD.

To save money you could even take the bus to Wet 'n' Wild and take cab from there (it'll cost you less than $6).
