Is the Polynesian safe, definitely. Safer than any other major resort in a heavily visited vacation destination, NO!
It is unrealistic to think crime does not occur on a daily, possibly even hourly basis at WDW. It does. People have been robbed, there was a hostage situation, a recent child porn situation. These are certainly the exceptions, but they do happen. I mean you can't get that many people together in one place and expect all to be honest and caring.
I have had things stolen from pools at deluxe Disney resorts. In fact I have never had anything taken at a value or moderate pool. Sometimes I think they work the deluxe pools thinking people who stay deluxe have more money, little do they know. Or maybe they are there to rob the pool hoppers, sorry guys had to throw some leivity in on a serious subject.
You just have to use safety precautions, be alert, keep your door always locked and with the safety latch and you will be fine. Don't flash alot of cash around, etc.
