It has been 8 long years since we have gone to Disney. We went in July and are planning to go again in July. I don't mind that heat - that much - but my DH HATES IT SO MUCH. We are suffering in the cold right now and all he can think about is how hot he will be in Florida in July! When we went there wasn't any fast pass and just waiting on line just to get inside for a preshow took FOREVER. We were waiting so long in the heat to see the Little Mermaid Attraction that just as we were to enter a woman passed out from the heat! Has it gotten any better (not the heat but the wait)?

Fastpass does make life better. You get one with a return time, come back during designated time and line you get in with fastpass is never really more than 5 minutes and often less. Problem is you can only get one every two hours and thus waiting in some lines becomes unavoidable. Attempt early mornings in the parks and then late afternoons to evening. Most crowded times of day in any park are between 10:30 and 3:30 which are also the hottest times of day. You don't say when in July you are going. Be aware that the week July 4 falls in will be extremely crowded while any others will just be normal very large summer crowds.

We've been to WDW the last 3 summers (July & August) & don't want to do it again. My best advice is to be at the parks at opening (or EE if you're staying on-site) and do as much as you can before ~10:30 am. After that, make use of FastPass and try to leave the park for a break during the hottest time of the day. Even with FastPass the waits can be quite long...especially for the big rides (and some FastPasses are gone for the entire day by noon). We often went on rides like It's A Small World (which never seemed to be too crowded) to get out of the heat for a while. Another thing we do is book a PS mid day to give us a break. That's what I dislike most about going in the summer...it's so hot that you're always looking for somewhere to get out of the heat for a while & I feel like we miss so much in the parks.

All that being said, if the only time we could go to WDW was in the summer, I'd do it...just to go there, but it wouldn't be my choice time of year.

Also, if possible try to bring one of those misting bottles w/ the fans on top. Or buy one when you get to the park. We bought 2 a couple trips ago. We filled it w/ water and some ice every morning. By mid-afternoon when you are watching a show in the heat or just stopping for a break it is nice to cool off w/ the cold mist.

We manage the summer heat by starting at the parks in the early morning, leaving after lunch and spending the afternoon at the pool and going back to the parks in the evening. Fast pass is great and it is not always a two hour wait to get another pass. You can also get another FP before you ride your current FP ride and this will help you minimize your time in line.

Alternate your airconditioned attractions with your outside attractions and this provides a little relief from the heat.

I agree with Kilee- the mister fans make the heat so much easier to bear! We also took frozen bottles of water in our backpack. As they begin to melt, you have nice, cold water. We think FastPass is just the greatest thing and use them whenever possible.I do wish Disney would use big fans to cool off the wait lines as they do at USO.

I like to arrive when the parks open (if on site use EE). We hit all the high demand rides and rides with long waits in the sun. I make the earliest PS for a character lunch (or at AK the latest PS for breakfast). We then hit a few more "in the sun" rides after lunch. When we start getting hot we then hit the water rides or indoor attractions/shows. By then it is dinner time. If still in the park after dinner we hit a few more things before heading to the room.
