How do you qualify for free dining?

Do you need to book both your Hotel and Ticket through Disney; or is one of the two enough. The reason I ask is I plan to stay at the Dolphin--would that not allow me to take advantage of the meal deal. If so I may have to consider another resort. Thanks in advance for the tips.

You have to purchase a package that includes accomodations and tickets.

That is correct. Guests of the Dolphin, Swan, Shades of Green, or any of the Hotel Plaza Boulevard properties, are NOT eligible for free dining (IF it's offered).

if it is offered, you have to book a package paying rack rate for the room... the current suspect is that some time in april the package will be offered for sept. This combo provides the deepest discount that is offered during the year.

What about DVC. I was thinking about renting points from an owner. Do they get the free meal plan? I would assume not.

no, but you will likely save more by renting the DVC points and paying for DDP than paying rack room rates and free dining. (depending, of course, on where you stay on DVC and where you would stay if free dining was offered)
