I got a tour of the suite a few weeks back when I was at Disney as part of a D23 event. It is not that large, I think they said about 600 sq ft or so, but it is beautiful. I would love to stay there. They had a guest book and people had stayed there the night before we were there so it is still being used. But it's via Disney only. You can't "buy" a night in the castle.
We were there for the D23 event, too. We were told that the only way to get a night into the castle is to win it. They don't rent it out to anyone - not even celebrities. And there are rumors that Disney is thinking of going back to rewarding a night in the castle randomly, like they did during the YoaMD, but that wouldn't happen for a year or two, if at all.
We were told the only celeb to stay there was Tom Cruise and it wasn't because he was a celeb. He wanted to come to Disney but all the resorts were booked so they let him stay the night in the castle.
An "urban legend."
Believe it or not,you are not alone.I guess Im strange because the idea of staying there doesnt appeal to me that much. Its a lovely room, I appreciate it on an artistic level, but from what I understand, once you are in, you are basically locked in for the night. You cant go out. You cant even look out into the park. Id get claustrophobic after a while. Plus, I am a night person, I like being out late. Im sad that there is no more PI but still, Id probably pass the night at a late meal or strolling the boardwalk or Jellyrolls. I think if I ever won it, Id give it up to a family with little kids or something.

No,during the YOAMD promotion, the Dream Squad was given a specific location, time, etc.(Space Mountain exit,9:50 AM,second "rocket",first seat)by a computer program.I wonder, if you turned it down could you just like, turn to the family with 2 little girls who randomly happens to be standing next to you and "give" it to them or would you have to let Disney pick the next person?
My 'Keys to the Kingdom' guide was also TomKat's tour guide when they stayed in the castle. She said that Tom was invited to stay over Valentine's weekend by Iger and that is why he was allowed to stay there. She also said that they were super "normal" and that Katie had even made their beds in the morning.
