How do you feel about DRIVE THRUS?

Like I said he just wants people to be aware of what convience is doing to the environment. How that is forcing it down your throat I don't know. Just like all of you have had your opinions and want to change him.

To each his own....

Yeah I just done see the connection:confused3 btw convience and the envrionment and you know she also said some noncomplimentary stuff about parents and sick kids too.

And I dont think anyone was sticking it to her, I really did run out to get milk from this type of store with 2 sick kids in the pouring rain and then a BK run for lunch, and sometimes we all need to take a step back and be able to make fun of ourselves and let a topic become silly. I didnt see any harm.

I didn't appreciate the comment either about if your kids are sick then stay home and cook & I chose to defend myself on that comment.

I totally agree.

But I just want to say one thing. Since Mr/Mrs Smith, whoever was posting...they admitted to not having kids. So I think it was very rude and judgemental of them to criticize how others do things with their children even if they do feel it is harmful to the environment. So perhaps if they had not been so judgemental then perhaps we would not have been so mean to them. Just food for thought. And yes that food was from a drive thru.

Let's put the sick babies aside for just a moment. The whole defense for drive-thrus seems to be that it's too hard for parents to take their sick babies inside or that people have disablities with mobility issues. Ok. I get it. But what about the majority of people who use drive-thrus who aren't in either of these camps? They can use the drive-thrus all they want - I'm not purposing we stop them - but what's their excuse? I'm able to go inside without wasting oodles of "precious time" but they aren't? I don't buy it. I think that quite simply they go through the drive through: 1. because they are being lazy that day; or 2. they are in the habit of doing so. To tell me that I'm being judgmental for calling a spade a spade is ridiculous.

Wal-mart is a bad example because I refuse to shop there but I understand the point you are trying to make. I'm not trying to say that convience is a bad thing. I'm saying that our dependence on convience is a bad thing. There are some things that make life easier. A shower is a good example. In this case, the benefits of the item outweigh the costs. That's how we have to evaluate things. The benefits of using a shower definitely outweigh the costs. In some cases, the benefits of shopping at a grocery store outweigh the costs. In a few limited cases, the benefits of going through the drive-thru outweigh the costs (i.e. sick kids and disabilities). But the grand majority of the time, people make use of these convience items out of laziness or habit. I'm not saying that I'm not guilty here but I'm able to see when I'm making decisions because I'm being lazy or not.

Your kidding right? I'm well aware of invisible disability but that's a red herring to this entire conversation. Unless a large percentage of people who use drive-thrus do so because they are disabled than your point is moot.

But really...who cares? It's not like the wait inside is 100 times longer than the wait at the drive-thru. You're talking a matter of minutes here.

If you strapped on a pedometre for a day, you'd be surprised how quickly little trips from the car to a building or from your desk to a photocopier, add up. Supposing it took you 100 steps to get from your car, across the parking lot, into the building, over to the counter, and back to your car again, that's 100 more than you would have gotten sitting your car.

I love your idea of walkable socities. Unfortunately, with people choosing to live in the suburbs and shop at big box stores, it seems like the trend is going the wrong way.

This whole thread really doesn't have to do with if you have kids or not.....But many of you just say I have kids walk in my shoes. I have done both. I have kids.

I didn't appreciate the comment either about if your kids are sick then stay home and cook & I chose to defend myself on that comment.

Yep, I thought that was a pretty rude comment, too. Which is why I insisted on her letting us know if she had any. I can't imagine anyone who has kids would make this kind of judgemental comment.

Anyway, as far as people making jokes, it seems as though Elvis has left the building, so it is mute whether others hang around to chat..

Well, I didn't mean we all SHOULDN'T hang around to chat, just saying that it won't be mean to talk if she/he is gone...carry on, I need a laugh..

I think I'm done - already in my flannel nightgown so no going out for me tonight - drive through or otherwise.....:rotfl:

Pizza Delivery.

Laziness and environmental waste take 2 (you KNOW the pizza guy leaves the car idling when he comes to the door, and since we're all so slovenly we take a looong time to get to the door when the bell rings)

OK, this is too funny, so you are forcing me to confess.

Now, I have leftover Chinese for dinner. And good leftover Chinese, too - chicken with cashew nuts, yum! BUT, I am out of Diet Coke, and I really am in my nightgown - plus it's in the 30s and rainy here, so...

I am seriously considering ordering a pizza so I can also order a 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke.

And, this won't be the first time I've done that...:rolleyes1

Mr & Mrs Smith-- I see your side. You will not win with these people. I understand where you are coming from.

Our society is a me society. They want things and they want them now.

Yes you have kids and sometimes they are sick or you have babies and car seats I get that too I have two kids myself.

I think he is trying to say that people need to slow down. People don't make coffee to to take to work they stop at the shops. etc. Yes it is cold , but I bet when it is a beautiful day you still use that drive thru. And that is all great if you want to but don't jump on others that like to go and say hi, nice day to the clerk.

I think it is getting pretty immature of some of you to say I am going to go thru a drive thru now to stick it to him....

He said do what you want , are you people even reading his posts but you have a bee in your bonnet over the lazy part. He has a point every step counts as exercise....

Thanks so much, NAB. You totally get what I was trying to say. I keep getting asked why I care about this issue yet people are getting offended here left, right and centre by my comments to the point where they engage in schoolyard banter.

Yes but in her arguments we would be serviced faster if we went inside, so we could feed our need to be all abut me if we went inside, not waiting in drive thrus

Actually that wasn't my argument at all. That was someone else's comment. I said that I don't care how much extra time it takes to go inside because the difference is minimal.

I'm checking out of this conversation. Apparently the OP actually didn't want to hear how people felt about drive-thrus. She was just looking for people to agree with her and an excuse to carry on this debate to yet another thread.

Cheers. :hippie:

umm yes I did really want to see how people felt, you are just bent bc no one seems to embrace your viewpoint.

And I am not the first person to start a thread based on something commented on in another

You are kidding, right? Tell me you aren't because THAT is a winner of some kind of award, I'm not sure what...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao:

I don't know what kind of parents they are. My point is it's better in my opinion to have an option to drive through a store in order to get some needed items like food or medicine, rather than leaving a sick child alone in the car or taking him or her inside to expose others. I don't know why it wouldn't be simple common sense that it's better to use a drive through if you had the option to do so, in the case of sick children.

I had to do this for the first time just last weekend. Both my kids had fevers of over 102 and dh was out of town for another week. I had medicine but it wasn't going to last more than a couple days. I called Longs and explained the situation and asked if I could buy over the counter meds at their Pharmacy drive-thru window. They could not have been nicer about it and they had my Motrin ready for me when I got there. I have never been more grateful for a drive-thru!

No, sadly I am not kidding. Luckily, tonight I have guilted my daughter into going to the grocery store before she takes her sister to the movies, so I don't actually have to pull the pizza trick, but I have certainly done it in the past. I can always justify a pizza and an apple dessert, along with the Diet Coke. No law that says you can't drink the drink right away and save the pizza for breakfast in the morning...:rolleyes1

Adn actually, on a night like tonight, if I DID have to go out, I would totally get a Diet Coke from the Steak and Shake that is three blocks from my house, instead of buying it at the grocery store or the convenience store, both of which are also three blocks from my house. No contest - I hate getting out in the cold and the bad weather, and since I am already in my nightgown I could just go find today's dirty clothes and put them back on if I knew I was only going through the drive through - because I WOULD run into someone I knew at the grocery store, without a doubt. In that case, I'll totally cop to being lazy....

Your diet coke addiction may have just killed a penguin. I hope you can live with yourself.

As long as it's not a polar bear - I hear they are in real trouble, but Morgan Freeman says the penguins are still doing OK....

You laugh but a church near my school has a drive thru Christmas paegent.

HONESTLY!

There are 12 stations (think large wooden play type facades) where one aspect of Jesus life is portrayed. They start at a manger scene and one drives around and checks out all the stations.

The church has a circular driveway so you just sort of circle around and go home.

At first I thought it was tacky-- but the more I thought about it I loved it. There is no waiting for a seat, figuring out what to wear, dealing with sick people, having to shake others hands, or dealing with nosy Aunt Doris.
