How do you feel about DRIVE THRUS?

You laugh but a church near my school has a drive thru Christmas paegent.

HONESTLY!

There are 12 stations (think large wooden play type facades) where one aspect of Jesus life is portrayed. They start at a manger scene and one drives around and checks out all the stations.

The church has a circular driveway so you just sort of circle around and go home.

At first I thought it was tacky-- but the more I thought about it I loved it. There is no waiting for a seat, figuring out what to wear, dealing with sick people, having to shake others hands, or dealing with nosy Aunt Doris.

Santa Monica, CA does that along Ocean Park Blvd. It's pretty neat. It's actually a little more interesting than just putting up a Nativity, since it tells the whole story.

And I remember when the Rev. Robert Schuller had his Drive-In church before the Crystal Cathedral. A man ahead of his time.

I see your point but I don't really think that idling while in a drive thru contributes that much to waste and pollution. I'm far more concerned about SUV gas guzzlers and stop-and-go traffic on the highways and idling at traffic lights. But you know what? Those things aren't going anywhere.

As for being lazy...I think that's a little much too. I doubt that a person burns that many calories strolling in and out of a fast food restaurant.

They have that in the last city I lived in, Greenville, SC. I never saw it, but they had live animals, and I think they even had a camel.

Our church has a live nativity on Christmas Eve, and many people drive slowly by, instead of parking and standing on the sidewalk. There's not much parking (it's a downtown church) so more people can see if there aren't too many people standing on the sidewalk. It's really very lovely to drive by...

Especially if, like me, they are leaving with a double cheesburger and a large order of fries...oh, and a Diet Coke, of course.

certainly not enough to work off what most people order..

My church does one every year. We love it. Although I do feel bad sometimes for the people standing out there in the cold.

We also did a drive thru Christmas lights display in Hershey on NYE. It was really cool.

All these people still obsessed with a drive through and nobody will read my Gardasil thread??? What's the matter, are you all shallow as well as lazy???:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

How many pages back is it?

Couldn't you just provide us with a link? It would be more convenient.....

I just have an incredibly short attention span. Plus, I'm too busy eating double quarter-pounders, supersize fries, large vanilla milkshakes - all in the old-fashioned, non-biodegradable styrofoam containers. And when I'm done, I wipe my mouth on the American flag, toss the stuff right out the window, and there's not a *** thing anybody can do about it. (thank you Dennis Leary)

I'm up to page 6 (too lazy to read the whole thread, so you see where this is going,) & I haven't seen this mentioned, so here goes....
(and try not to pass out people hating our "convenience" culture....)

A while ago I got a flyer from a pizza place that is next to a convenience store that will DELIVER anything from the store along with your food order! :worship: I thought it was the GREATEST thing I'd ever heard, but I've never had the desire to use it.

Also, after I had my first child, Publix used to deliver. THAT was awesome, and I'm still sad that they took it away.:sad1: :sad1:

So, I guess that would win the lazy award, although you do have to walk to the front door, amd there's no idling involved!:car: :car:

The whole defense for drive-thrus seems to be that it's too hard for parents to take their sick babies inside or that people have disablities with mobility issues. Ok. I get it. But what about the majority of people who use drive-thrus who aren't in either of these camps? They can use the drive-thrus all they want - I'm not purposing we stop them - but what's their excuse?

Why does anyone need a defense or an excuse for using a drive-through? It's there to be used and people use it. No one needs to supply a "good enough" reason for doing so.

But here are a few of my reasons (that have nothing to do with being disabled or having kids).

1.)There are no empty parking spaces
2.)It is raining, windy, cold or otherwise miserable weather
3.)My dog is in the car and I can't take him inside
4.)It's late at night and I don't feel comfortable walking through the parking lot alone
5.)The heel of my shoe broke
6.)My engine is acting funny and won't start up again if I turn it off
7.)The drive through is the only part of the store that is open at that particular hour (very common in banks, gas stations and fast food places)
8.)I have a pounding migraine and just desperately need to get my medicine and get home as fast as humanly possible
9)There are still no empty parking spaces, even after I've driven around the block
10)Because I can, and why do I have to justify it to you?

I would think that people who DON'T use drive-thru's would LOVE people that do.

If there are 6 cars in the drive-thru, that's six customers that you don't have to stand in line behind.

Us drive-thru people are making YOUR life more convenient by staying out of your line and not crowding up the stores.

Hooray for Drive-Thru'ers!! We rock!!

My minister told me about a drive-thru church somewhere in New York (I think). He also mentioned a drive-thru funeral home. They have the casket sitting in a window, you pull up, pay your respects, and drive away.

Now that is pushing drive thru's a little too far! I can't even imagine that. We have drive through package good places, you literally drive through it, i'ts like a garage, you drive in,m tell themwhat you want, they get it, you pay, put it in your car and drive out the other end.
