Mine and my friends family are going to be in disney from aug21-sept3. We can't wait. I am still a little unsure about flying(or doing anything now). We have looked into taking amtrack auto train, which is a pretty good deal but takes a long time. We also considered driving, this is at least an 20 hour ride. We live in Ny so its not a hop, skip and jump away. Normally I would fly but I am not crazy about it. My husband is all for flying. Who says the train is totally safe. What is everyone else doing? I am sure they are really incredible savings in the air right now. I guess I just need to vent, since I am soooo confused. Thanks for listening!!!!

We are going next August and driving. This is only because we are going for two weeks though - otherwise we'd fly. It's about 24 hours for us coming from NH. We really don't mind driving, IF we have the extra time - and it's nice to have your own car in WDW, rather than a rental, IMHO.

It seems like you are afraid to fly. I have always been a very nervous flier, even before 9-11. But, I did fly in October, and will again this January. You'll be fine - if I l survived, anyone can. I was a wreck before the trip just thinking about it. Logically, I know the skies are safer than they were pre-9/11 - although they do still have alot more to do.

Flying. Why wouldn't I?

I feel as safe now as I did in 1988...

I`m going to WDW in July 02 and I`m flying. Oh but hey, I dont have any other choice;)

We're going in September 2002 and driving from far N.E. IL. But like an earlier poster, it's more because we're probably also spending a week at my aunt's in the St. Pete area (either before or after WDW - it changes every day!). If not for that, I'd fly with no hesitation.

Going that time as well. Just booked air for $171.50 per person rt from Philly. Hasn't been that cheap in ages!!!

Also got a rental for 10 days for only $188 with all taxes, fees thru National (full size).

only a plane will get me there....there's no comparison with a 2 hr plane ride vs 17 hours straight in a car....(talk about some stiff knees here...i yi yi)

and from working in an ER....the chances of my injury or death are so much more greater in a car....would rather feel safe...relaxing in the sky while my two sons play Gameboys...lol :)

but I won't be flying the friendly skies..(Delta......lol..long story)

have a great trip no matter how ya get there!

We will be doing two Disney cruises and four days at WDW starting the Thurs. before Labor Day in 2002, and we will DEFINITELY be flying. We live in Chicago, and flying is the only way to get to Orlando without wasting valuable vacation days, since we have nine Disney cruises planned next year. We did our first post-9/11 flight Thanksgiving weekend, and it went much more smoothly than I had hoped. I am always a nervous flier, and 9/11 didn't help, but I am a logical person and I realize that flying is still the safest way to travel all those miles. My bigger worry is the financial stability of the airlines. We HAVE changed the way we travel...we now try to fly in the night before our cruise and stay overnight in Orlando in a cheap room that we book via Hotwire. We specify an airport hotel so that they will have a shuttle, and then we take Happy Limo to the port in the morning (we never rent a car, as I refuse to drive while on vacation...another reason why we fly). As a nervous flier, I sympathize with people who are reluctant to take an airplane due to the tragic events in Sept., but I refuse to let terrorists dictate how I will live. We never even considered cancelling our cruises or WDW trip next year.

We flew last month and will probably fly again if the budget allows. We drive when we're broke or when we can't find any decent deals on airfare or car rental. I was a little hesitant to fly and, in fact, we were having breakfast in the hotel lobby when the flight from New York to the Dominican Republic crashed. I wanted to cry because we had a return flight the next day. If they determined it was an act of terrorism, I would have driven the rental car home. Fortunately, it wasn't, so we flew home. I didn't feel any more secure at the airport than on pre-9/11 flights - even though both our luggage and carry-on bags were "spot searched" but I think, like a previous poster said, that the odds are in your favor when flying compared to driving, the train, or anything else. Good luck.

I'm going with my mother and 2 kids for 9 days at the end of August. Nice vacation before they go back to school. We will be flying. I was also looking at Amtrak but decided I didn't want to waste that much time with traveling. The only thing my kids are worried about with the flying is hopw their ears pop. My daughter was in tears 2 years ago when we flew because her ears kept popping and she said they hurt. This time I'll be getting the earplugs for her.

Either the Auto Train or flying, Delta. Right now we are leaning toward fFlying, white-kuckled, but, flying.

Going in August also, but will be driving. I live in central GA, so it's only a 10 hour drive for us. We're driving down the 25th, and staying at ALS Mo, but won't be at the park till Monday. This way we can leave at 6:00am (when I usually leave for work) take plenty of stops, and still be there by 8:30 or 9:00, so we can be well rested in the morning. If it took much longer than that though, I'd be flying too. I guess we're fortunate that we have the option of driving, it saves on rental car fees, and air fare. This way we can stop on the way back and see family outside of Orlando too.

We are seriously considering taking the train from NYC. This will give us some time to view the countryside, even though the rides about 24 hours long.I consider it an experience. We won't be reserving a sleeper room because the price is $1000 more for a family of 4. I think we'll just sleep in our seats. The train ride for all 4 is $630 RT, which isn't too bad.

We're going this July and will be flying as usual, on Delta this time. I got a great rate of $114 RT from DFW-MCO. Our first trip to WDW we drove and that was no fun. Flying is the best way for us to get the most enjoyment out of our vacation time. The events of 9-11 have not shaken our familie's flying desire.
