Horrible, Awful, Disgusting Meals

Hi!

Most of my experiences have been good but there are a few items that were ummm... unacceptable. I am willing to admit that I am fussy though.

The tabbouli at Tangerine Cafe in Morocco Epcot tasted very much like they had used dishsoap in place of dressing. Couldn't eat it.

The fish at Yorkshire County Fish Shop in the UK Epcot. The batter was very thick, very greasy and there was a thin layer that didn't cook and was still runny inside. The fish was placed on top of the fries and was so wet that the fries became mashed potatoes. It ended up in the bin.

My friend tried a sausage on a bun from the kiosk on the Boardwalk. It was a very odd grey colour and looked kind of like an overgrown breakfast sausage that had been boiled then left under a hotlamp for the day. She was a trooper though... sadly... it did not stay with her... *sorry*

Tubbi's breakfasts were okay... pretty good actually but a few times I would have loved a simple sandwich. I was shocked at how poor the offerings in the case looked. I think they wanted about $5 for them. One or two slices of questionable meat on white bread that was curling up on the edges. I was really surprised.

I was also really disappointed with the Prince Edwards Tea at the Garden view Lounge at the Grand Floridian. The pate and terrine had been frozen I guess, and was not totally thawed. It was so dry it was crumbly. The potted crab crostini turned out to be a tiny piece of crab, unadorned or prepared in any way atop a small piece of stale baguette. The berries in Cumberland sauce were added to the side of the plate and the sauce ran through everything making each offering taste exactly the same and saturating the pastry on the duck liver (the only edible thing really!) making it a soggy mess. They also ran out of scones and served us a very dry banana bread instead. Hopefully they were just having a bad day.

The funniet one though has to be the pizza from the Sassagoula Floatworks and food factory... ! I picked one of these up for my husband one night and brought it back to the room. We broke... not one... but two plastic knives trying to cut through the crust! We just about died laughing. Thank goodness I had picked up an order of chicken fingers for myself and the order was enormous so I was able to share with him once he gave up on the pizza. The chicken was really great!

Since I have complained so much I should say a few positive things...

We had a great meals of cheeseburgers at Sci Fi and would go back anytime.

Also... believe it or not in December I had a wonderful lunch at Nine Dragons. If you have any inclination to try it despite the poor reviews I can totally recommend the lunch special. It is only about $15.00 for the lunch sampler and is all you care to eat. They bring you some of everything and if you would like some more of any of the dishes they will bring another. They are very quick and friendly and the setting is beautiful.

The won ton soup was a bit bland for me and the ratio of noodle to filling was disappointing, I would go for the Hot and Sour next time... it looked good!

Standouts were the Canton Pepper Beef and the Stir Fried Shrimp with Cashews (small shrimp but still very tasty). The very best though was the Shao Mai! My friend and I asked for more of these two... possibly three times! I would go back for the Shao Mai alone! Some of the best I have ever had.

Okay... I think I have rambled on quite enough... I am hungry now... *want Jiko...*

The ones that stand out as bad to me are breakfast at Donalds Breakfastasaurus(way too stressful and structured), and dinner at Tonys(yucky food and way overpriced...and I dont usualy think that of WDW restaurants, but his particular one was).

The worst meal we ever had at Disney was the Villans Character Dinner at 1900 Park Fare. The food was awful and we think we got food poisoning on top of that! Definitley would NEVER eat there again. It's been our only bad dining experience at WDW. But to confirm others thoughts that every restaurant can have a bad day, I disagree about Chef Mickey's. We did the character dinner and thought that there food was really good and that the atmosphere was fun but not too loud. We had good service as well. I've already made another PS for this trip!

Another yuck vote for Chef Mickey's here. When we went there were a lot of empty bowls at the salad bar. I found the food (that was there) disappointing for the price they charge. The desserts and the character interaction were very good but not worth the price for that one.

Had another yuck experience at the PSB at Norway. Was VERY disappointed in that one. Our food was cold, half cooked and just bad. The waiter couldn't even get milk for dd. Service was terrible. The princesses all visited within 10 minutes of each other about 30-40 minutes after we got there.

I've read many that have had good experiences there so maybe it was an "off" day. The folks at WDW responded very fairly when I sent them an email about our negative experience so I would be fair to say I'd try it again sometime.

Otherwise we have been to MANY other restaurants at WDW and they've all been good or better.

The worst was the EL Pirata place in Adventureland at MK. Taco salad with hard white lettuce chunks (no greenery at all) and greasy orange stuff sprinkled on top that was supposed to be cheese.

Yuk. However, DH said his tacos were okay.

Otherwise, most of our experiences have been good, once we got over the sticker shock.

I steer clear of (although Horrible, and disgusting is a little harsh!)
Tony's
Planet Hollywood
Ice Cream Social at Garden Grill

I do not plan on eating at Chef Mickey's again. Average food and service for the price. The funniest part was when the gentleman came to our table to collect for our family picture. To paint a picture, I was wearing the Disney Christmas tree hat fumbling to find my room key for the charge and he was very, very serious barely speaking at all.

I was about to ask him how he could be so serious and work in a place called Chef Mickey's:-)

The food at The Storybook Princess Breakfast (Norway) was truly awful. I would also steer clear of Planet Hollywood.

Fultons - bad food, horrible service, way too expensive
Chef Mickey's - cold bad buffet, noisy (but characters were fun)
Breakfastasaurus - stressful and structured was a good description - they wanted us in and out asap!

Hi all..
I don't want to say it was horrible or disgusting but the villains dinner at 1900 park fare was 'icky'

My daughter liked the kids buffet area ~ but I was not impressed with the adult, food was luke warm and overdone.

I have had some great meals otherwise.. really enjoyed the Breakfastasaurus, Cinderella's royal table, Princess story book, Crystal Palace, Rainforest Cafe & Mama Melroses.... Bomo is terrific too.

We were not impressed at all with the character lunch at the Crystal Palace (this was back in 1999 though). We found the food to be "trying to be gourmet" but turned out pretty bad. I know lots of people have had great experiences here though.

It's all about being in the right place at the right time or wrong time. I can think of 2 less than stellar dining experiences we've had at WDW but don't base your upcoming decisions on what happened to us since it wasn't very recent and I'd hate to hold a restaurant accountable for something that happened 3 years ago. But we won't be back to:

Artist Point - We had a p.s but waited quite a while for a table even though they didn't seem crowded. It was more like they were understaffed. They sat us right at the entrance of the restaurant kind of to the side of the checkout area and very close to the kitchen door. We never even got to see what the resturant "really" looked like or enjoy the ambience. Our waiter was charming at first but when he got a group of college co-eds at another table he disappeared ;-) Took forever for our food and when we got it it was cold. My son's hamburger's bun was literally like a rock. A cold rock. No bigggie just pul the pattie off and cut it up. My dh's entree and my beef were not good. Heat would have helped. Why didn't you send it back you may ask. We might have mentioned it to him but he left and without standing up and retrieving someone (and we weren't feeling aggressive that night :-) it would have been a task. I decided to just enjoy our bottle of wine lol. Asked for dessert and the check and it took SO long for dessert to come the kids and I went back to our room and my dh still waited 20 yes TWENTY more minutes after we left to get the dessert and pay the check.

Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney - I'd read there can be a considerable wait so when we tried to plan for an "off time". Late lunch at about 2:30 p.m. We checked into the podium and the girl took our name and # in the party. She walked away for a minute and this young man (employee) walks up and says, "Are you the <blank blank> family?" Yes." "Well, I can seat you right now on the patio so you don't have to wait."
"How long is the wait for inside?" I ask, since even though it was May it was HOT outside.
"45 minutes" he says.
"There are fans out there and it's cool."
I agreed and he led us around to the patio. I glance inside and see empty tables. There is one family on the patio and that was all and they looked up at us and the looks on their faces said it all. They were sweaty, kids irritable, and they had a look of "we can't wait until we get out of here" written all over them. The young man hands us our menus and says, "I'll be back in a minute to get your order." Ah ha! He was the waiter!!!! This was his "section" and he wanted to fill it. It was way too hot to enjoy a meal so when he got back I told him we had changed our minds, wanted to eat inside no matter how long the wait. He was not happy but not much he could do. We walked out, around and checked in again and guess what? Got seated inside within 5 minutes! And there were other tables available. I thought the atmosphere is fine, the food just ok and I think the thing that bugged me was being LIED to but that was his fault not RFC'S.

But other than that and the waiter in a bad mood at Alfredo's one night (not sure what happened but know it wasn't us since we had no conflicts - he was angry already when we got there) but he was ticked off all night and THREW our after dinner mints on our table (yikes he would have gotten a much better tip if he hadn't done that lol) we have had dozens of WONDERFUL dining experiences at WDW!

Wow Sorry to hear about your experience at AP. That is really uncharacteristic of the place. It is one our favorite WDW restaurants. Like you said, it can really happen anywhere. We had a terrible 1st meal at Jiko which gets rave reviews. It was when the AKL 1st opened. We tried it again and it was fine.

Definately Sci-Fi Cafe, horrible chicken (like leather) and turnip mashed potatoes served cold! I heard hamburgers were okay though.

A vote for Norway's Storybook breakfast. Horrible food (cold eggs, bad service).

And also Alfredo's if you order the veal or chicken. The lasagne was good.

I wouldn't call it "horrible, awful, disgusting", but we won't be returning to Tony's. We tried it twice...won't be a third. Atmosphere is nothing special, food is okay, and everything is WAAAAAAY overpriced! There are much better restaurants in and around MK.

I will never go back to Sci-Fi again. The food was not good, the wait was long, and I found the surroundings irritating. And I do not think the Norway restaurant (for dinner) was good either.

Other than that ... I have enjoyed every where else at WDW!:D The first time at Chef Mickey's was just average. But I think I selected the wrong items. I went again ths past December and it was quite good! Service was good, character interaction was excellent and all the food was hot and replenished often. Once again proving the point...it all depends on when you go, who is serving, your frame of mind, what you order, the alignment of the stars, etc., etc.

Brown Derby is one of my family's favorites! We love the Cobb Salad and the parfaits for dessert.:D

I'd rather eat instant grits in the room that try the Rainforest again. We've tried it 3 times, and each time the service, food and the general lack of concern for our time was astounding. Too many good dining choices around WDW to waste time at the Rainforest.

We've only had a few bad meals at WDW -

We won't go back to Chef Mickeys - we did b'fast there in 2000 and it was chaos. To start with we were a family of 4. Our PS was for 9am, we checked in at 8:45 and weren't seated until almost 9:30 because the hostess overlooked our name and kept seating familys who came in later than we did and who had later PS's. The restaurant had pleny of empty tables and we still have no idea why they couldn't have seated us on time. Then we sat down to cold food, burnt food and the table and floor were dirty and sticky. They had plenty of staff on and most were just standing around. The character interaction was great but we were all so ticked off about the service that we couldn't really enjoy it.

The other meal we didn't enjoy was at Sci-Fi at MGM. The service and themeing was fine but the food was raw. We sent it back to have them cook it a bit more and it was still raw and cold (they obviously hadn't done anything to it). A bit greasy too.

Some restaurants just have bad days. Thankfully there are SO many to try!

:) Good luck choosing!

Another vote for Chef Mickey's.....and YES it was Horrible!!
Right from the start....just aweful.
Poor, cold food! NOISY!! The only time we saw our server was as she was passing by and said "oh, sorry...I forgot your (drink, etc, etc...). I will be right back!" and she never returned.
Even the characters were horrible that night!! No life in them that's for sure!!

The other "we will never return to" ....is Tony's. Worst meal at WDW ever for me and DD!! DH said his salmon was good. But, to try and call "string with ketchup and rubber baseballs" a spaghetti and meatballs dinner......that was a crime!
The service was very poor too. We had a new server that didn't speak English very well and couldn't understand it either!! We had to point at the menu for him to get our orders. What a joke!!!

On a possitive note....the best dinner we've ever had was at Ohana's at Poly!!!! Awesome food and service!!!:teeth:
