Horrible, Awful, Disgusting Meals

Planet Hollywood - terrible service but good burger
Alfredos - okay service but HORRIBLE food
Rainforest at AK - great atmosphere - poor service/poor food
CRT - poor service/poor food/poor princesses.....or maybe I just expected too much after all the hype.

I will definitely return to H&V for Dinner.
Crystal Palace for breakfast or dinner
Sci-Fi but maybe just for shakes
Primetime for lunch or dinner

Whispering Canyon Cafe - The food there is terrible and the sevice we had one night was beyond terrible! We will not go back for a long time. Maybe we wil try it in a couple of years! LOLOLOL!

This list you are asking for is VERY subjective! What you might consider good....some would shudder at! So take it with a gain of salt..no pun intended and try it once!

We did not care for the Sci Fi diner the food was marginal and way over priced.

There are alot of negative comments about Chef Mickeys they mostly sound like dinner times we've never eaten there at dinner but we loved there breakfast and found the service and characters to be fine. I do remember that we did have to hunt some of the characters down but we didn't mind.

DH and I have come to the conclusion that most meals at WDW are marginal at best so we don't invest alot of money in sit down meals just a couple to break up the counter service.

... I think we need to have an award for the best reviews of the worst restaurants at WDW! My vote is for Taryn (I think that was her name)... Her comments had me literally LOL! Thanks for brightening my cloudy Sunday afternoon! :)

Anyway, as far as my least favorites are concerned, I'd have to join the general bandwagon as far as Chef Mickey's is concerned. The food was bland, the service poor, the noise level very high and the price too steep for any dining experience of that caliber. Despite all the good reviews on this board of that place that I've read over the years, I won't ever go back there again!

Conversely, despite the negative reviews of Tony's, we have always had great food and service there for lunch. The food is in no way gourmet, but the pizzas and pasta we've selected have always been pretty tasty. I've never been there for dinner, however, so I can't comment on that.

I guess I'll accept the challenge in terms of naming some of WDW's "best" as some of my least favorite... I have been to Flying Fish twice and not been impressed with the service and the wait for a table, even with PS ressies. I also think the food is ok, but not stellar (which it should be for the price), and the noise level and hustle/bustle atmosphere less than pleasurable. I was also not impressed with the Yachtsman Steakhouse at YC. The atmosphere was pretty boring, the service just so-so and on top of it all I wound up getting food poisoning from my meal!

Other places I found to be mediocre at best were Rainforest Cafe at AK, Narcoosee's, Alfredo's and the Grand Floridian Cafe.

The best imho is California Grill. To me, the food and service are impeccable and worth the high price, unlike most places at WDW. I've been there several times and it's consistently been a crowd pleaser. I also adored Le Cellier when we tried it in Sept. for lunch... That may turn out to be our next must-do restaurant every trip!

Cheers,
Sarah

Chef Mickey's dinner
1900 Park Faire dinner
Tony's breakfast

Yuk Yuk Yuk

Worst Meal Ever at WDW....Coral Reef! $80.00 for some so-so fish and a "hot-pocket"....

great atmosphere, yucky food

Hands down...Planet Hollywood...yuck!!!! I've had some good meals at the Flame Tree Barbe-que @ Animal Kingdom and yes the biggest drawback next to the service that is @ Rainforest Cafe is the noise!!!You can't hear yourself think there...it's brutal!!! I want to know one thing though...does Disney actually think that all kids eat is spaghetti, macaroni, pizza and burgers??? There's nothing my kid won't eat and I've just started to do half orders of "real food" like pasta primavera (did this @ Cinderlla's castle...my server had to get special"permission" from the chef in order to do this...as if...how ridiculous honestly!!!) I wish they would throw the odd vegetable or something on thos menus for our kids!!!! Yeesh!!!

I think you and DH must have gone to the wrong sti downs. If you watch the posts there are a number of "must do" places. But to each their own.

Eeyore2U,
I think you are correct. Some folks mistakenly consider character meals at WDW to be the extent of sit down fine dining. If that's all there were, indeed, I would have to agree and would mostly eat counter service, myself. But my goodness, there are some wonderful fine dining experiences to be had at Disney. Wayyyyy beyond the sometimes mediocre quality of the character or other "themed" type meals.

Worst... dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Not so hot... dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern
... dinner at Chef Mickey's
... Cantina de San Angel

Everywhere else we have eaten we have really enjoyed and they include:
Pecos Bills--- lunch
Cosmic Ray's--- lunch
Garden Grille--dinner
Le Cellier--dinner
Tempura Kiku--lunch
MatsuNoMa Lounge---lunch
San Angel Inn--lunch
Brown Derby--lunch
50's Prime Time Cafe---lunch and dinner

Flametree BBQ--- lunch
Narcoosees-- dinner
'Ohana ---- dinner

Cape May Cafe--- dinner
Fulton's--- dinner
Planet Hollywood--- lunch
Wolfgang Puck Express--- lunch

Hope you find some favorites of your own!:)

We are not fans of Planet Hollywood. We have eaten there twice. The first time the food was good, the service was LOUSY, and it was very loud.
I only agreed to go again because my Hubby loves movies and really was being a good sport about what I wanted to do.
Never again. bland food, bad service.
I think the round shape of the place just throws me off. I cant seem to stay steady on my feet.
We also avoid the Prime time cafe. I can get the same basic food at a counter service place for half the cost.
Other than that....We have always had a good time!:D

Will never go back to:

Planet Hollywood: too loud (gave me a headache); poor service (server: can you please repeat your order again -- for the like umpteenth time?); poor food

Biergarten: loud, don't like sing-a-longs while I am trying to eat; everything you order tastes like chicken! :p

San Angel: there's a reason the lighting is so dark, folks! Sometimes ignorance is bliss, especially when you are eating here.

But the all time winner of the yuckiest meal at WDW: Chef Mickey's breakfast club! Phootie!! Overcooked, undercooked, uncooked, lukewarm, runny, lumpy, unseasoned, way over-seasoned... any way you can poorly cook food they can do it. And loud! The characters (and a few guests) could stand a dose of Ritalin! :o

Always go to:

Restaurant Marrakesh
Cape May Cafe
Shula's
Fulton's
House of Blues
among many others.

feenie must be thinking of a different restaurant than prime time cafe when he/she says you can get the same basic food at counter service. that just isn't true. we really like prime time, btw.

we have never had a truly bad meal at wdw. we have been to most of our favorites a number of times. here's our list of places we didn't like well enough to go back to:

o'hana -- found food to be just okay and service below that.

sci fi dine-in -- mediocre food at above average prices.

japanese counter service -- ate there right before closing and found the food, especially some kind of minced beef stuff, to be not very good. may have been b/c we went at the end of the day.

flame tree -- grease and gristle in the pork sandwiches. setting nice, sides interesting, and ribs good for counter service, though.

rose 'n crown -- food just okay. we prefer other world showcase restaurants.

boardwalk pizza window -- cardboard crust, especially if you walk from the boakwalk to yc/bc. will do after a long day, though.

You are right!!! Sorry.
I meant the Sci-fi Dine in! I have the 50's Prime Time cafe on the brain since we plan to go there on our next trip!!

Fabulous dinners are a highlight of my DW vacation.

Highlights:

Jiko's
California Grill
Maya Grill
Citricos
Teppannyaki
Fying Fish
Brown Derby
Concourse Steakhouse
Kona Cafe
French Restaurant in EPCOT (both)

Lowlights:

Le Cellier
San Angel Inn
Coral Reef
Mama Melrose
Chinese Restaurant in EPCOT
Alfredo's

Not big on buffets, but I usually do breakfast ones only. I think
Chef Mickey and Park Fair are both good. Can't complain too much about pancakes!

This thread is funny. It just SO proves the point that all places have their bad days and it can be luck of the draw whether you have good service, bad service, good food, bad food... And all of our tastes are different. I was shocked to see so many negative reviews of Chef Mickey's dinner. We have always enjoyed it but I got to thinking about it and it's probably because the only entree I have ever tried is the prime rib since I LOVE prime rib. Actually we enjoyed the prime rib there more than ever last summer because they were cutting thicker slices and it was done how we like it - medium which I know grosses some people out that like theirs well done.:earseek: I don't do hot vegetables at any buffet since they are usually flavorless so I load up at the salad bar, peel and eat shrimp, rolls, mashed potatoes and then hit that dessert bar. Noise has never bothered us but that may be because while waiting we usually get a glass of wine or cocktail from the bar next door hee hee. I do now see what y'all mean now because if they took the prime rib away I'd have a different experience. I also agree about Planet Hollywood. We haven't eaten at the one at DD but have in Dallas a few times. In fact a friend of a friend got us invited to the groundbreaking party there and we got to meet Sylvester Stallone. SORRY to get off topic but he actually rode a bull into the "West End" for the ground breaking ceremony and it was too funny. Went back when it opened. Memorabillia is neat but food and service lacking and you talk about LOUD?

I will never, ever, not even if it were free eat again at 50's Prime Time Cafe. Food was *blech,* service was POOR, and I'm not a "funny service" kind of girl. (We only went because we were *starving,* had no PS, and were nearby. NEVER again.)

I will probably never eat at Flying Fish again, and if I do, it will only be on the grounds of "maybe it was just a bad night." Service was shaky at best, and the food for our whole table was meh. My dinner - the vaunted potato wrapper snapper w/ leek schmutz - was ralph-worthy.

Garden Grille was awful. Disgusting food and a waiter that vanished forever after bringing out the "food". Never again.

I must add to my previous post. Other posters reminded me about the San Angel Inn.

The restaurant is very dark and the food was incredible BLAND. As a matter of fact...my meal could have been anything ... all the colors looked the same and it was all kind of mushy. Something like a babyfood gone wrong. Eeyore1954...I think you're right, that is why it is so dark! My DH and I will never go back there again...except maybe for the boat ride and to see the glass blowing.:p

Regardless of what think when you eat at a Character Buffet you are paying for the Characters not the food.Cost does not equate quality at these types of settings. We have eaten at Chef Mickeys several times and found it to ber acceptable 1 3 on a 5 point scale. We will return however as we get exactaly what we expect-Characters.
We did have bad experiences at Rain Forest (AK) and Bongos. However I've had bad experiences at our local favorites and accept the fact that everywhere could have a bad night. I think WDW does a great job considering the amount of food prepared every day. It's hard to compare another restaurant anywhere serving the amount of food WDW serves at all the different restaurants.
Don't blame the restaurant because kids misbehave, that can (and does) happen anywhere-been to a Chunky Cheese recently. Also Chefs change frequently at WDW restaurants. What was a well run, decent food restaurant one year mat not be the following-and vice-versa.
