My daughter and sister-in-law returned today from 5 days at OKW and BWV. Before they left for Disney World, I printed out all the DVC discounts from the DVC members-only web page. They each have DVC membership cards. However, while they were at Disney World, with one exception, they were repeatedly denied a DVC discount. Each time they requested the DVC discount and presented their membership card, they were told that Disney no longer offers discounts to DVC members. I asked if there might have been some confusion with the now expired Disney Club, but my sister-in-law said she was very clear with the vendors that she was asking for the Disney Vacation Club discount and not the Disney Club discount. Is this something new? When I was at Disney World in 2003, I had no difficulty receiving the DVC discount.

When she checked in they gave her a packet,as usual, the discounts should be listed there. I was there in January and I got discounts at the restaurants. Don't know if they stopped them since.

I believe it was during lunch at Les Chefs de France and also at the gift shop at the Rainforest Cafe. I can't recall the other places that turned them down, but will ask and report back. They did, however, receive a discount at a restaurant in the Japan Pavilion in Epcot.

hmmmm very interesting, because i do recall we get a discount at france and im not sure about rainforest cafe, i would say not the one downtown/market place, i know that AP holders get a discount at all the epcot country restaurants and rainforest cafe AK only.
and i know you cant get discounts on holidays

It doesn't really matter what was in the check-in packet. If the DVC web site says a certain discount is currently in force, then truth-in-advertising law requires that it be observed. Sounds like a swift and clear complaint is in order.

That's odd. I got the Rainforest merchandise discount when we were there in January.

When you check-in, you get a little booklet called "member perks". I would keep that handy during your visit.

Hence the tagline on the website:

All offers are subject to availability and change without notice.

However, I've never had them deny a discount that was shown.

We received the discounts at Swan/Solphin restaurants with no problem in January. I would have asked to speak to a supervisor.

I checked with my lawyer on this one. As I thought, the tagline does NOT give Disney immunity from truth-in-advertising law. If it did, any advertisement could carry this tag and have no responsibility to reflect the truth at all.

Yes, DVC does have the ability to change these offers whenever they wish. But since the web site is one of their most important means of communicating these offers, then they must use the web site to communicate any changes as well, and they must do so in a timely manner. Otherwise they are required to honor their published offers.

Bottom line: carry a currently-dated print-out of the web site or the check-in packet info with you. If a CM denies you a discount that's listed in either place, show it to the CM. If you're stonewalled, politely hold your ground and ask to speak to a manager. In the unlikely event that this fails, complain to DVC customer service within the next day or two, include your receipt, and ask for an appropriate refund. There's no reason why you should be victimized (and charged) for a CM's ignorance.

Maybe to you their website is most important, to them its the leastimportant. They put no effort into that site at all. I would say that the sheet you get at check in is the most important.

I wish they would put more effort into making that site a useful tool.

I checked again with my sister-in-law, who said that she was specifically told at the gift shop at the Rainforest Cafe that they had discontinued discounts, except to Disney employees. She was told that other business were adopting similar policies.

It sounds like the employee at RFC (they are NOT Disney employees) did not know the difference between the defunct Disney Club and the DVC. When told that the Disney Club was discontinued, many employees wrongfully assumed this to also mean DVC. Your MIL should have asked for a manager.

found this on the members website, and it also said to check at the website for current perks, even though you get a perk at check in:
