"Her Name Was Definitely Mary". Our 1st anniversary trip, May 2011 *NEW 9/6

I love Disney mornings where you don't have to set the alarm! I mean, don't get me wrong, I love rope drop and early ADR's, but sometimes it's nice to go at your own pace! :thumbsup2

However, I'm not sure I can continue with this TR any longer...you don't like Soarin???? :sad1:

Just kidding, I know, some people, including my very own DH, just don't care for Soarin. I love it, I could ride it over and over, but my DH said he could have done it once in his life and been fine with that!

I'm so going to look for the Chris from Orlando CM name tags now, that's awesome!

It is a shame that not all pp photographers are good. You have this opportunity for a shot in front of SE and.. it is blurry. Granted... it isn't a bad picture. But.. just seems (and I know they are not all actual photographers) that they should be able to get better shots.

I completely agree! I would just assume that the people with the professional equipment standing around waiting to take your picture would be actual photographers. But the only thing different between their photography and mine is that they just happen to have tripods. Oh well, we still had fun stopping for the PP pics!

Haha, I hope I don't lose readers because I don't like Soarin! I don't hate it or anything, I just don't get the big deal... maybe because I went to a lot of IMAX movies at the Science Museum when I was younger? :confused3

Anyway, without me clogging up the line, you can get on that much faster! ;)

You read all that? You deserve an award, or at least a cookie. Do you have any cookies in your house? If so, go get one and eat it! ;)

Seriously, I am flattered that you are enjoying hearing about our trips! Thanks for reading!!

Ok, I didn't read it all in one day. More like 3-4 days. And I didn't read the comments, just the updates. But thanks! Mmmmm, coookie...

Sounds like a great day, despite the rain.

I'm here! I'm here! Sorry I'm so late to the party!!!

Fantastic TR so far!! We enjoyed San Angel Inn too, idk why it gets the bad rap that it sometimes does on the boards!

Cool fact about the nametags! I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for those Chris's from Orlando!!

HAHA! Ben will be so happy you said that... I soon as I posted the update, he read it and told me I should've pointed out my mountain impression.

Poor Davy, but judging from the long line of folks waiting to see his concert at Epcot, he still has plenty of fans!

If you see a "Chris from Orlando", you can always ask their real name... I bet they'd be happy to tell you. Maybe. ;)

How funny that Ben noticed that too! I get Sugar Ray playing while I'm down there. Want me to pass on any words to Mr. Mark McGrath? Extra Extra!

Haha, either way: you earned the cookie.

I was reading about your wedding... it was beautiful!!!

Welcome to the craziness!!

We ate at San Angel for the atmosphere, and ended up loving the food. Yum!

Haha, I never had quite the crush on Mark McGrath that I had on Davy Jones. :lmao:

LOVE this report.:thumbsup2 Can't wait to see pics and read about Old Key West! We'll be there in 32 days!!!!

I also am not in love with Soarin....but maybe that's because I have never ridden it because I hate heights. I did check out Journey into the immagination with Figment for the first time. I guess you could say I thought it was cute, but interesting :upsidedow

I'm TERRIFIED of heights!:scared1: For real, I won't climb a ladder more than the first 2 rungs. However, my entire family wanted to do Soarin' and I thought, how bad can it be?:rolleyes1 I will be honest here, it was AMAZING! I'm SO glad I did it. Yes, it was scary a few times and I closed my eyes but I think it actually helped me of my fear of heights.:thumbsup2 I plan to ride it again this coming trip!:yay:

Aww, thank you very much! I am looking forward to writing about OKW, but sad because that will mean our trip is just about over...

When you are there in a month, be sure to say 'hi' to the Gurgling Suitcase from Ben and I!

Thanks! Don't be shy to post comments there. :)

I'll see what I can do ;)

You should try Soarin'! Lots of folks who don't like heights love the ride.
I am by far in the minority for not loving it; all those people can't be wrong!

While we did have an alarm this morning, it wasn’t too early. We woke up at 9 am and started getting ready to head to Typhoon Lagoon. I was so excited; this is my favorite water park!

By the time we got there, it was around 10:30, so the park was already open. There was a noticeable difference in the crowd level compared to our Blizzard Beach visit a few days earlier. I hadn’t really considered the fact that a water park would be more crowded on a Saturday.

We got our locker, and then headed off to find Slush N Gusher (with just a bit of a delay because we went the wrong way. I was convinced I knew where they were- I was wrong). These are 3 separate water coaster slides that are so much fun! It didn’t take us too long to ride all three of the different gushers.
We then rode some of the tube slides, which all started to have fairly long waits (this is subjective; we’re talking probably 10-15 minutes. So not ridiculous, but longer than we had to wait at Blizzard Beach a few days earlier)
Once we got to Gang Plank Falls (the family raft ride), we saw a very long line. I kept telling Ben that I remembered this ride being underwhelming, and maybe not worth the wait. But he pointed out that it wasn’t as though we had somewhere pressing we needed to be so we may as well wait. After talking down the ride for so long, we ended up really enjoying it! I guess expectations are everything, huh?

My favorite part of the park is the section with the Storm Slides tucked behind the big Humunga Kowabunga mountain. They are super fun body slides, and this is just such a lushly landscaped area. It didn’t hurt that the crowds hadn’t reached back here yet!

Our stomachs were starting to growl, so we decided to find some lunch. After our gross Blizzard Beach lunch, I knew not to order a cheeseburger and instead went with some kind of chicken wrap. Ben got a turkey sandwich that was listed as a special. So, how was it? Let’s put it this way: I will NEVER eat at a Disney water park ever again. My chicken wrap was soaking wet and I actually gagged while eating it. Which is saying something, cause I’ll eat almost anything! Ben’s sandwich was fine (not great, but not gag-worthy), and because he is a wonderful husband (with a crazy ability to eat/drink the most disgusting things just so as not to waste them), switched with me. Thanks Ben!
After nasty lunch-time, we took a spin around the lazy river. It was really long, and pretty crowded but still a nice time.

We were done and ready to leave, so we made our way out of the park around 1:30.
Having written this, I realize that we toured both water parks almost identically: slides, lunch, lazy river, pose for pictures on the way out:

I love how I am awkwardly posing with the mountain...

We had fun with the telescope pointed at the Miss Tilly boat and our camera…

The wait for the bus was a bit long, but was actually very enjoyable. The bus stops at TL are well shaded and peaceful.

IMG_5508.jpg

The peace ended when our bus arrived, driven by a very strange dude. As Ben and I sat down, I commented to him that I was cold and the driver overheard me. So he snaps out, “I only have an off and on switch. If I turn it off, the windows will fog up and we’ll be stuck on the side of the road.”
Um, okay… wasn’t talking to you, sir. But thanks.

Then, the typical announcement spiel started up, and he shuts it off, saying “I hate that guy, so annoying!” Which was weird, but not too interesting, until he proceeded to talk loudly about random things for the whole bus ride. So that recording is annoying, but you’re not? Right…

The best part was when we stopped at Jambo House and a family got on the bus. They were going to TL, and the driver started talking to them about the park. That wouldn’t be weird at all, but what was weird was that he completely changed his voice and speech patterns to sound “ghetto”. Now I can’t say that this is why, but I do think it was relevant to mention that the family he was talking to was black. As soon as we got off the bus, Ben and I turned to each other and asked “did you notice…?” We were thinking the same thing... What a weird poser dude.

Once back at Kidani, we didn’t have much time for a break: we needed to be at Epcot for 3… for my very first official DISmeet!

I've never been to either of the waterparks, but they do look like fun! That's funny you did basically the same order at both.

Ugh, sorry to hear about your gross lunch. It stinks to have to stick to the basics while at Disney, but I guess that is better than a gag-worthy lunch!

Omg! Your bus driver story had me :rotfl: and I think based on your reviews... I probably won't be eating at the watermark...even if I did go to one

I am refusing to eat at a waterpark if we go to one this trip, nothing about a soggy wrap sounds appealing :rotfl:

Looks like a fun day at Typhoon Lagoon! I like TL much better than BB! The storm slides were my favorite too, we went on those so many times when we were there! If I ever do a water park again, it will be TL, I won't bother with BB anymore!

Your bus driver sounds a little insane...

Great updates, your Epcot day looked great. How was the passionfruit margarita, have got my eye on that one this year :teeth:

Love the telescope shot fo Miss Tilly's boat v cool :thumbsup2

What a weird driver, do you think he puts on a voice for other accents

I'm all caught up with your great updates, Joyce! Your AK tour sounds really neat. Was it one that any one could go on (meaning, not just people staying at AKL)? If so I might need to look into that. :thumbsup2

Ugh - your meal at TL sounds so disgusting. I don't think there is anything worse than soggy food. I remembered your BB dining review while we were at the water parks and we waited until we were back to the Poly to eat lunch both days. I'm so glad we did!

Yuck! I'm sorry the food at TL was so gross-- at least you know to avoid eating there in the future!!
Uhh, that bus driver sounds crazy! I'm pretty sure Disney would NOT be happy if they knew he shut off the spiel AND changed his speech patterns for families of different backgrounds. What a terrible way to represent yourself and your company!

I cannot believe that you are already at the DIS meet in your TR and I'm not yet! I need to get a move on. By the way...I'm wondering if anyone from our DISmeet remembered to take any pics?? I was POed at myself afterwards for forgetting! Guess I'll see if you did in your next update! :goodvibes
