I just booked a secret trip home for the family. I have a few days off in August and thought why not look at airfare. I found a great rate on Midwest express. 4 tickets round trip for $525. We are using 84 points to stay in a studio at the BCV, our home. I might be a little tight but we won't care. It will be DH, DS 1yrs & DD who will be 9 during the trip. We will also be celebrating our 12th Anniversary the same day. Should we mention the B-day? I would love to get her one of the signed Mickey/Minnie pictures.

Does anyone know how to order a B-day cake and if they are any good. I have had some really bad ones in hotels.

I am so excited. I am going to pack on the sly and tell them all that morning. Hopefully I can keep it from them.

Just had to tell someone or I would explode.

Gee... I hope DH doesn't read these boards!

Suprise trips are great fun... we did one for our kids back in September 2000. They didn't believe we were serious until we were on the plane, taxiing down the runway. My DD was 6 at the time and looked up excitedly. "We really are going to Disney World?" she asked. It was precious!

With regard to the cake, you could try contacting Shirley at THE PERFECT GIFT. Her company specializes in all sorts of special Disney suprises delivered right to your room. If she doesn't do cakes, she could probably point you in the right direction.

The web site is www.theperfectgift.cc

Have fun! Oh ... and you might want to mention the suprise to DH's boss!

My husband and I celebrated an anniversary while at BWV last year. Our grandkids ordered a cake at the bakery on the boardwalk before bedtime and picked it up the next morning. It had our names on it in frosting. You might try them.

Great deal on the airfare! Did you by any chance get this price through Midwest Saver Service, the new lower cost airline that Midwest Express is starting in August out of Mitchell?

Someone told me (not sure if this true or still done) that if you stop at City Hall on Main Street in the MK and let them know it is your child's birthday they will give them a birthday button/pin.

Apparently, all CMs are clued into this so depending on who spots it special attention is then bestowed on the Birthday child.

My daughter's is the day before we arrive so we are planning on checking this out.

I know in '98 we ordered a choclate cake from the WL---we picked it up at Whispering Canyon Cafe. It was partially frozen when we picked it up so we were glad we picked it up a little earlier than we actually needed it. Even though it was frozen, it was very good. It was like a gourmet cake with iced choclate and choclate shavings and white cream inside. I believe it served 8 and was about $15.
Since we ordered this from a Disney restaurant, I wonder if other on-site restaurants offer this and if they'll deliver to your resort ?

In addition to Shirley's site, you might want to look into this site :

I don't know the cost or much about them other than I have heard positive reviews on their services. They are not part of Disney. They can do something as simple as decorate your hotel room for a b-day to arranging a scavenger hunt in the parks. You can email them from the link.
Also, I have heard that if you notify the front desk staff at your resort (BCV) they may even deliver balloons or something to your room during housekeeping rounds so you're suprised when you return to the room ? Just a suggestion.

I would ask at the front desk or guest services desk for a signed Minnie picture for your daughter's brthday. Three years ago, my daughter told a CM at BWV that it was her birthday, and she went in the back and returned with a signed picture. My daughter loved it and it is still displayed in her room today.

call member services tell them what you are celebrating - your daughter's birthday - don't forget to mention your anniversary....
see what they suggest.

also for flowers - a special basket for the birthday girl - try WDW Florist

also the florist who is a sponsor of the dis boards.

great price for those air tickets!!!

As Loubon mentioned, stop by City Hall at MK and pick up the Birthday button....it does get you lots of smiles and birthday wishes from the CM's.

And it doesn't hurt to tell MS, the check-in desk or anyone else about the birthday.

But don't be disappointed if nothing is done for you. Things like balloons in rooms, or special favors seem to be given out on CM whims. Some people get extravagant treatment....others receive nothing.

As long as you go with the attitude of "they don't owe me extra favors", you'll be fine.

And I've been to WDW for two of my wedding anniversaries and mentioned it to MS, check-in, restaurants, etc and haven't received anything. To me, it's a fishing trip. If you enjoy fishing, you don't feel bad if you come up empty! :p

Have a great trip. :)

I never go into anything looking for anything, because then you get disappointed. I told MS about the birthday and I mentioned she was born on my anniversary and they thought that was really cool. If she gets something great, if not she is getting a trip to WDW what else should she want.

As to the question abpout airfare:

Yes it was the new super saver fare. We booked and asked for seats on the two seat side. My DS is still under 2 so his ticket was only $85. Can't go wrong at those prices, and no changing plnes. I prefer the old MW express but it won't be back so live with what yuou can.
