Lately, has anyone experienced them checking the heights on splash mountain....my grandson is four but very short...he is only 38 inches and we headed out soon....I hate for him to miss the water ride!!
Thanks!

If he's not 40 inches he can't ride. They will check his height twice. Once before you enter the Line and once before boarding.

Before all the PC police come on and accuse you of being a murderer because an inch on a ride is the difference between life and decapitation, I will tell you they will always check with the bar. If he isn't at the height, they aren't gonna let him ride.

Having the same problem, my lil guy in shoes is 37.2 and he needs to be 38 for SDMT.

We have even experienced being measured three times at Space Mountain -- once to get in line, once before we were sent to the "winding" lines, and then again before we were sent to a boarding line. They are quite strict. At any point you can be turned away. We found the highest heeled tennis shoe we could (can't look crazy high or people say they will make you take them off -- never seen nor experienced this but that's what they say) and went with that.

Disney is very strict about this....so don't even get his hopes up by heading over there. Now- if he is 38 inches without shoes and he grows an inch..... with sneakers he may be okay because the shoes will give him an inch. Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom is only 38 inches!!! It's a mildly thrilling water raft ride...so he can look forward to riding that!! Good luck!!!!

My youngest was turned away at Splash Mountain, he was less than 1/4 inch too short, but his head did not meet the stick. We knew he was too short, but he insisted on asking the CM, so we let him.

I would also suggest they measure him at the front. Even if you walk right by and the first CM doesn't notice but subsequent CMs do and he doesn't measure tall enough they won't let him on the ride. Would hate to have you & him wait for a ride he won't be allowed to ride.

Just be aware that even if the first cm days you are ok, if the second one says it's no, it's no

DS3 is 41 1/2 inches tall barefoot. Yes, I'm lucky. We still lined up at the check height even for the rides I knew he was good for. He doesn't understand to stand under the stick so he squats.

The only rides that the CM at the FP+ station (stick is there) paid any attention were Kali River and Spalsh. KRR the CM was very nice and said "You've got it!" And since the post there also does 40", she said, "You can ride almost EVERYTHING !"

Odd thing, on Soarin' there were some kids in line who definitely were less than 38". No one said anything when we got in to the seats.

I read an article written by an Imagineer. He said that rides like splash and BTMRR have height requirements and recommend that pregnant women don't ride, mainly in the event of a problem with the ride. They're built with stops, and the dramatic way those stops engage in the event of an emergency are hard stops- and can cause neck injury, miscarriage etc etc

I'm not an engineer, so don't throw things at me if you have a different opinion.

well, that settles that then!! It has been many years since my kids were so little, that I couldn't remember! We can just work our way around these little things! Thanks everyone!

Sorry, he has to meet the height requirement. They can, will & have made kids take their shoes off or hair out of bun/ponytail if it appears they are close to the mark.

Also, they check twice. Even if he were to be let through the first check and into the line they will undoubtedly check him before getting on and they are VERY strict about meeting the requirement.

On one trip, my daughter was a smidge under 40" with sneakers at home - so I didn't think she'd make it. I told her to get measured at Test Track just in case - and she made it! She made it inside too. She did the ride a second time. But the third time, in a row, she was fine when measured on the outside of the ride but not on the inside - even though she had JUST done the ride. Not getting a third time in wasn't a huge deal, but it was tough to explain to her how she managed to be a different size so close to when she was fine. As a plus - we had prepared her to not be able to do any of the 40" rides. Instead, we found that she was tall enough every time if it was her very first ride of the morning. After that, it was gamble - and she was never tall enough in the afternoon. At only 38" I wouldn't even bother trying the 40" rides though. I would prepare him for possibly not making Mine Train - that way it's a bonus when he does.

*On that trip, there were some kids under 40" on BTMRR. I knew this because they were shorter than my daughter. So, though they're usually extremely careful about measuring, there are exceptions but I wouldn't plan on them since you want safety!

People are tallest in the morning and shortest in the evening as the back compresses with all the day's standing, but relaxes back to a normal position after sleeping.

In adults the difference is difficult to measure. I think in children it must be more pronounced, perhaps because the spine is still growing?

My little guy was too short for a lot of stuff on his first trip and it was a major bummer.

But the good news is, some of the rides gave him special fast passes to bring back when he got taller and he's excited to cash in his Test Track fast pass in a few months (we've been since he was tall enough but that was while Test Track was down for that long stretch).

Also, on the next trip when he was tall enough, it was a BIG DEAL and we made a big fuss and took pictures of him GRINNING next to the height things at every ride and the CMs joined in making it a big deal. It was really nice. So there's always something to look forward to!
