Having a very hard time with DS going off to college

Thank you so much. :sick:She went to student health today and she has a UTI. They got her on antibiotics right away and she's been drinking a ton today and of course I don't think anyone on campus had any cranberry juice. But she's not in too much pain so we're thankful for that!

I am thankful. Really, I am. I keep reminding myself of that..........but then I start thinking.....there are 365 days in a year.......she only has finals for three days......couldn't this have happened on any of the other 362 days.......why now?:confused3

OK, I am thankful she isn't in too much pain. I am thankful she went to student health. I am thankful they were able to find the cause of the fever. I am thankful for the medicine........I am thankful she will get to come home soon and she will be able to get some sleep and finals will be over.:)

Good for her that she went to the clinic when she did! Those meds will help quickly!

DS was starting to get overwhelmed and discouraged about Finals. Too many days with no classes, bad weather, missed Friday reviews because classes were cancelled for weather, etc. its hard to give pep talks via texts! I kinda felt lost in how to help him. Then at 10:30 pm he texted that he got his score for his English Comp II research paper. He worked on it all semester. It was about Raw Food Diet, which he previously knew nothing about! He got 245 out of 250 points! 98%!!!!! Hopefully that will be the confidence boost he needs to finish!

Good luck to all taking Finals!

Yeay! I bet that success gets him through the rest!

Hey everyone! Hope everyone has been safe through these storms. It is going to be BITTER cold tonight. :cold: I wish I could go back to the sun and fun of summer:beach:

Along with everyone else on here, DS reports that a lot of kids are sick at the school. He is so far ok.

Yesterday he called saying there was a goof up with the financial aid office. THank heavens he took care of it, but I have to say it was freaking me out too.

He will be home in 2 days!!!! Can't wait!:cheer2:

I hope we all have a great Christmas break enjoying our kiddos coming home. It will be interesting though... He has had a lot of independence. How will he do back under mom and dad's roof???

DD received a care package today. Finals do not even start until tomorrow. We sent her a mini-loaf of banana chocolate chip bread (made the rest of dough into muffins that are now frozen so she can have "more" over break and 6 different types of cookies, as I was in a cookie exchange this weekend, so had a nice variety of goodies! And, I sent a cheap pair of gloves.

She had an ear infection for spring-semester finals, so at least she is healthy going into this semester's finals. I could not agree more with the comments about our kiddos need to better manage the things they can control, like sleep and diet...I know I am preaching to the choir here!

She will not be coming home until next Wednesday. Hopefully there will be good driving weather by then!

Stay warm everyone!

Seems like we are all counting down till our kids are back home. DS comes home
Saturday. I can't believe how fast 2 weeks went, but really glad.

What unbelievable weather we are having. I don't remember it being this cold and snowy in recent memory.

I am sorry to hear some of our kids are sick. It makes for more stress during an already stressful time. I hope they all get better quickly and do well on the finals. This will be a real test to see how DS is really handling being away from home. Is he really studying and doing the work or socializing to much :rolleyes1

Well back to cleaning up the mess I made organizing. Why does that mean making a bigger mess:confused3

I got in from Disneyland late last night. I got up before the crack of dawn to make the 3 1/2 hour drive to pick up DS. I was exhausted, but it was worth it. All is right in the world. :)

And his friend from down the hall moved his things into the room right after his first semester roommate moved back home earlier today. Hopefully things are settled on that front.

I hope everyone's kids recuperate quickly and have a great break home with family.

Did you all watch The Middle last night? I caught it on DVR tonight and enjoyed it. :goodvibes

DD just texted a picture. The comment-thanks for the gloves, I don't want to get cold during the snowball fight. In the picture, she is wearing short shorts; sneakers and the super short socks, an zippered sweatshirt-jacket thing, the gloves. And under her jacket-thing is her swimsuit.

I'm just not asking any questions. At least if she gets sick, her next exam isn't until Monday afternoon.

We live in FL where we are having a "cold" snap. In the pictures from DD over the last few nights, you can easily see who the FL people are versus the Northerners. The Floridians have on jeans and long sleeves and the Northerners are in shorts and tank tops. I used to shovel snow in a lightweight jacket and shorts. Now I wear long sleeves when it is 70.

:lmao: Maybe it's better that I never get photos????? :rotfl2:

You do have a point there!

Although -this picture was worth a thousand words! My next text to her was to see if she was going to have some hot chocolate. The answer was a huge NO. Apparently she was sweating.

So-was I the mom complaining that my DD needed to get some exercise?? I better be careful what I wish for!!!

I've gotten two or three pictures over the past 16 weeks followed by a text that said, "Oops! Sorry about that. Er......that wasn't exactly meant for you." :rolleyes1

For some reason...this is the funniest thing I've read all week!

LOL! I'm sure you are feeling great that she is out and having fun, but also wondering what in the world she is thinking! I swear, this is the kind of stuff that has surprised me all semester!

Big Guy is HOME! He arrivd Thursday at 1 and we've barely seen him! He is happily catching up with old friends and hanging with his brother! He did sit with DH and I last night at the Band Concert! He is so relieved to have a semester behind him! He keeps feeling like he should be studying or he is forgetting something. So far so good!

Ok, that made me LOL!

I picked my guy up on Wednesday afternoon, and aside for him picking his brother up at a party on Wednesday night, he had not been out of the house until yesterday around 4 pm. He has been a complete slug!! I am trying to show him some grace- but I'm getting a little itchy!! He has slept, ate, and played Xbox. Oh, and emptied the dishwasher once. :p

It looks like he pulled this semester out of his butt- final grades not the best ever but not the worst either. He had a lot of distractions to deal with so I'm trying to cut him some slack. I am hopeful that next semester will be better.

We are now looking ahead to our trip to CA for the Rose Parade and Disneyland. We leave in two weeks!!!! :)

Speaking from experience, cut the some slack, they have been working really hard the past couple of weeks! Just let them know what you need them to do, and let them get it done on their own time!

My DD still has two more exams, and will not be home until Wednesday.

My son was scheduled to come home today but luckily I was able to get him home last night instead. His last final was yesterday. Some of his finals he could do online from his room:confused3. It was lucky that he got out last night otherwise he would have gotten stuck in all the snow.

You all are cracking me up with the misdirected texts and pictures. :rotfl:

I am waiting for the time DS gets a realty check. His first semester and now his 2nd semester schedule is easy at least timewise. I am trying to tell him it most likely will not always be like this and too not get lazy about his studies.

How are all your kids schedules?

Drama...drama...drama

DD called in the middle of the night. With one remaining final today, her boyfriend broke up with her.

I'm glad that her last exam is what she thinks will be her easiest.

She is supposed to drive home tomorrow. I hope she does not drive home today, her exam ends at 7 pm, and it is a 4 hour drive.

I am hopeful that her j-term class will be distracting for her broken heart.

All this breakup drama makes me glad DS is in his words "Sharing his awesomeness"

Soon the the Fall semester finals will be over :cool1:

Love the Awesomeness comment!

I think relationships are all about timing -the right person, at the right time, with the same goals for the relationship at the same time.

Luckily-DH is much better at anything that happens in the middle of the night-including all of the drama that he carefully avoided stepping in during high school!

Hey everyone!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!:santa::santa::santa:

I've been thinking of all of you ladies and your kiddos! Hope we all have a very Merry Christmas celebrating with ALL of our loved ones!

Add us to all of the breakup drama. Yesterday (day before Christmas ) DS's girlfriend broke up with him. He saw it coming so isn't devastated. he said he was disappointed but not heartbroken. Now he is stuck with her Christmas present though... I asked what he would do with it, and he said he bought it with her in mind and is still going to give it to her. That girl is missing out on a great guy!

It has been fun having him home. I have been so very happy to have all of us together again!

All of the kids should be home by now. And here's a toast to all of us for having survived the first semester of college. Some bumps and bruises along the way, but ladies... we did it! Thanks so much for all of the support, it has certainly helped me. I needed all of your help, support, and laughter to get through this.

So... a toast to us...:drinking1

Thanks to all of you! :thanks:

And have fun celebrating Christmas!!!:santa: party::santa:
