KSC sits on 140,000 acres of land, swamp and waterways and nearly half of the center is designated as Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. If you look carefully on your bus tour, you may spot an alligator and many other species of wildlife.
There is a visiter center and courtyard area with buildings that have shows, food, merchandise, and I-Max movies (I highly recommend the one on the Space Station). There is a building that has actual lunar vehicles and space suits etc. You'll have your lunch with the astronaut in this building--beware, it takes several hours for this and costs extra. The astronaut we saw was a French cosmonaut (SP?). The first Non-Russian cosmonaut in space. He spoke a bit and then answered quite a few questions.
In my book it says you can expolore a full size Space Shuttle replica inside and out, but I have to tell you we missed this. Check carefully for where it is.
There is a beautiful memorial to astronauts who have lost their lives during their jobs. You walk to that.
You'll drive by the Vehicle Assembly Building (which Disney Cruisers can spot on their way out to sea!), although you cannot go in it.
There is the building which houses an actual Apollo Saturn V Rocket laying on it's side. The enormity of this thing is overwhelming.
Their website is
www.KennedySpaceCenter.com which has great links and you can purchase tickets online too.
