Have you been to Kennedy Space Center recently?

For our upcoming trip, we were planning a trip to KSC, but someone at DH's work just said he was there about 6 months ago and said there really wasn't anything much there. I have been looking forward to this, especially the dining with an astronaut, and now I am very frustrated. Especially because the guy put doubts into DH's head. any info is appreciated!

We were there in June. You can do it all in a day if you get there at opening.

If you have never been there, it's a great experience. If you have been there in the last few years, not much has changed.

Make sure you take the bus tour, you may also be able to sign up for lunch with an astronaut.

If you never have been there, let me know and I'll give you some more details.

No, we have never been there. I definetely want to sign up for the lunch with an astronout, and were planning to do a tour. Thanks for the offer of details, I would REALLY appreciate it!

Truthfully, I wouldn't base my decision on one guy's opinion. Afterall, there are people out there that say "there wasn't much to do at WDW" and "it was okaaay , but... " :p Hard to believe, but they're out there ;)

If you were looking forward to it, then by all means go...and decide for yourself, or you'll always be wondering :)

PandyPaws, your absolutely right! as we were talking, DH asked me if we should continue with it. I thought about it, and I said I still wanted to go. I have always wanted to go there. But I would like to arm him with information so he knows there is more to KSC so he looks forward to it, not that he is predisposed to think poorly of it.

I haven't been, but its high on my list of things to do. I wouldn't let that guy change my mind, like Pandy says, people find different things interesting.

Please do let us know how your lunch with the astronaut goes. I would love to do that!

I am embarassed to say that this is something I have never done (native Floridian and it's only a few hours from my home!) but it's something I've thought about doing many, many times! One of these days.....

Let us know how you like it!

KSC sits on 140,000 acres of land, swamp and waterways and nearly half of the center is designated as Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. If you look carefully on your bus tour, you may spot an alligator and many other species of wildlife.

There is a visiter center and courtyard area with buildings that have shows, food, merchandise, and I-Max movies (I highly recommend the one on the Space Station). There is a building that has actual lunar vehicles and space suits etc. You'll have your lunch with the astronaut in this building--beware, it takes several hours for this and costs extra. The astronaut we saw was a French cosmonaut (SP?). The first Non-Russian cosmonaut in space. He spoke a bit and then answered quite a few questions.

In my book it says you can expolore a full size Space Shuttle replica inside and out, but I have to tell you we missed this. Check carefully for where it is.

There is a beautiful memorial to astronauts who have lost their lives during their jobs. You walk to that.

You'll drive by the Vehicle Assembly Building (which Disney Cruisers can spot on their way out to sea!), although you cannot go in it.

There is the building which houses an actual Apollo Saturn V Rocket laying on it's side. The enormity of this thing is overwhelming.

Their website is www.KennedySpaceCenter.com which has great links and you can purchase tickets online too.

If you have any more questions, please ask!

CRB#33, thanks for the info! I am sure I will have more questions again, but right now I was wondering, does the astronaut come to each table so you can get a picture and autograph or are they upstage "out of reach"?

If I remember correctly you could get in line to get his autograph on a picture at the end. He did move around the room with a microphone and get pretty close to the people to hear their questions.

This could vary from person to person though.

We went in Jan. Lots of NASA in DH's background.
He enjoyed it...but wasn't overly excited.
Once was enough for him

You should do it yourself once though.
Do take the extended tour...the one that goes the closest to everything. That was the best part of the whole thing!!

Although seeing how huge everything is was impressive!

We didn't have the option of dining with an astronaut then (security still too tight). Sounds like a winner though.

And don't arrive early....they won't even let you onto the grounds  We sat in a parking lot way down by the gates for about half an hour.
