Correlle Dinnerware

We always used it growing up. One would break every now and then, but they were great overall.

The lead in the old Corelle was not in the dishes themselves, but in the paint used for the decorative borders, so if you have the plain unpainted Corelle of any vintage it's fine to use, regardless of what you believe about testing.

We got two sets (with painted trim) when we moved in together, one I had purchased, and one DH inherited from his parents. We've been using them almost daily for 40 years now, so I think that if there was lead to leach, it's kind of too late to worry about it.

The Corelle is the only sturdy everyday dishware I've found that is thin enough to stack 8 place settings in my kitchen cabinet. I'd like to replace them at this point, but I haven't been able to find a new laminated glass pattern that I like. IKEA has some in their offerings as well, made of the same kind of glass.

They do shatter on tile, but we have wood floors in the kitchen, so they just spin around and make a loud noise if you drop them.

I got mine 31 years ago when we got married. I never knew about the lead paint thing until now.

I do know the pattern has really faded from the dish washer. Went to someone’s house for lunch on Saturday and they had the same pattern . What a difference in colour, I knew they faded but boy not that much. It’s the green leaf one.

I like the bowls because they have a wider top than the ones they have now.

I had Correlle in the past and got tired of it and replaced it. However, I replaced with heavy dinnerware. I have just purchased a new set of Correll as it is much lighter and easier to handle.

They break, and it can be pretty dramatic. It's just tempered glass. Pretty durable, but it's under stress and will shatter into all manner of different bits. But I've also had pretty good experiences with similar Ikea tempered glass, which is much cheaper. Ikea's are either made for them by suppliers in China or France, but are the same price regardless of origin.

Also - Corning sold off the Corelle brand a long time ago, and it's currently owned by a company called World Kitchen. OK - apparently since renamed Corelle. The same company also owns the Corning Ware brand as well as Pyrex.

One of the more interesting patterns they had was for Amtrak.

I love Corelle because they stack so easily and don't take up much room in a cabinet.

I do find they get hot in the microwave, which is annoying. It was the reason I didn't ever get Fiestaware even though I adore all the colors.

I LOVE my Correlle set. I bought it when I moved into my 1st apartment in 1998. Country Cottage. I was always a little sad that my pattern didn't have a lot of accessories to go with it. Sugar and creamer set, other types of serving dishes, etc. So about 10 years ago my Husband got me a set of Pfaltzgraff (Summer Breeze) that is really pretty and has all the things which between him and other family mostly my MIL I have accumulated a lot of the set. Well We moved this spring and I decided I missed my Corelle dishes so I broke them out and have been using them. I did bring the other set and they are in the cabinet for more special occasions but I am so happy I started using them again. I did go on the Correlle website and there are a few things in that pattern now so I bought a few different size bowl (Some larger soup bowls, small dip bowls and a couple more of the big serving bowls, that now come with LIDS!)

My Mom had them when we were growing up, she bought a newer set when I was a teenager but my dad still has and uses them all. One Bowl I remember broke- Filled with mashed potatoes and she dropped it on the table and it hit just right and shattered but I am 52 and that's the only time I remember one breaking.

I had the Blue Velvet set in the late 90s when I went off to college. Broke a couple bowls, saucers, and tea cups but replaced them easily at the outlet store. Used them through college until we got married.

I think the outlet stores are all gone now. I think they used the name "Corningware Corelle" although they had a lot of stuff sold by Corning/World Kitchen including Pyrex. I remember when they had $1 bowls - mostly either white or beige without a pattern.

Most of the manufacturers' outlet housewares stores are gone. Like Mikasa and Oneida. I think Oneida and Revere Ware were the part of the same company at one time. I actually bought some Wedgwood for my cousin's wedding, but the Waterford Wedgwood Store was at Valley Fair (not an outlet mall) in Santa Clara, California. Kind of bummed because later I found them on sale at Bloomingdale's for the same price, but they would give free boxes and ribbons/bows.
