I'm wondering if anyone has seen this movie yet, it came out today I believe.... My nine year old wants to see it in the worst way.... I was wondering what gave it the PG13 rating... if it was just the intense drama? Or was there language or other content that would be inappropriate for a nine year old to see?

Thanks!

We are going to the drive in to see it tonight. I'm taking my 8 & 12 yr olds. They are playing Shrek 2 first & then The day after tomorrow. It doesn't seem like it would have anything to terrible in it, I imagine just language. I'll let ya know. :)

One of my favorite sites is kidsinmind.com -- it details exactly what give the movie its rating. There's no guess work about what the content is or waiting for word of mouth.
As for the movie, I can't wait to see it this weekend!

Hey, thanks for the websites, how useful are they??

MagicalMom, according to Screenit, it looks to be mostly the drama that gave it the pg13 rating... let me know how your kids like it!! Thanks!

Okay, I need to know if the obligatory dog in peril is used in this disaster movie and if he is okay before I go see it and end up bawling my eyes out.

Yes, that is right - a million people could die and I'll lose it over a dog... :worried:

You know, I'm the same way an animal or a child in peril and I just melt.

That whole dog thing is true for me too!

In Independance Day I was SO relieved the dog made it!

My 13 year old and I went and saw it today. There was nothing inappropriate in my opinion. I think it would be fine for your children to see.

And the dog is fine!! He survives!

I saw a preview of it last night.

I thought it was a very nice movie. I had my two boys with me (age 16 and 13) and it was in no way a movie that I would hesitate to tell anyone else NOT to take their kids too. There was no s e x , very little gore, maybe one or two words that were off color. Take your child and enjoy it. We did.

PS Loved the Dog! He was one of the best parts of the show.

Thanks, Mom2Angels! Lauri will be relieved to hear that.

BTW, she's not kidding about losing it over the dog, either. You should've seen her reaction to those Mastercard commercials with Badger, the lost dog.

We saw it today and afterward I remarked to DH, "Gee..... no obligatory sex scene, absolutely no nudity, and no strong language. I guess it really was the beginning of a new age!!!!!!"

Seriously, I loved it and thought the teens in it were portrayed in a great manner.

Without giving away too much, I really enjoyed how the homeless guy ended up working with the guy who had everything to help each other survive.

I really liked the movie but DH thought it was slow at times. I could have done without the wolves, though. I want to see it again.

That says it all! I think that is why I enjoyed it so much.

Thanks Mom2Angels, Maryanne & Claudia for your personal reviews!! My son will be SO happy he can go!!!! I figured it was the drama that gave it the pg13 rating, glad to know I was right on this one (you can never be too careful)....

Thanks!

I also think that the PG13 comes from seeing people dying. Nothing gory but it is quite dramatic.

Chris1gill, PM me if you want more descriptions.

We saw this movie yesterday and thought it was ok. Just leave your brain at the door before you enter the theater and you will be fine because there are so many silly situations in this movie you swear it was a comedy. Every cliche in the book is used. The dialogue will put you to sleep and I agree with another poster that it was very slow at times. Visually it is wonderful, but the story and lack of common sense is somthing to be desired. Overall it was fun but not serious at all.

Good points, dog. I go to movies for entertainment and the visuals are very good. Personnally, I thought it moved pretty well but I appreciated the time to investigate the characters. Maybe my brain was slow because I have been up at night with sick kids but I liked the pace. It was not all nail-biting but had some quieter sequences between the action.

Not at all cheesy like 10.5 but then I like disaster movies of all kinds. I enjoy finding the old "Airport!" disaster movies on satellite.

On a lighter note, as a parent I was pleased to see a movie when the teen took his dad's advice!

I have to say as a person who works for a subsidiary of NewsAmerica who owns 20th Century FOX that the reference to FOX TV thoughout the show was ROFL.

It was SUBtle stuff in in the movie that really added to the comedy.

We watched the movie yesterday and also thought it was just o.k. Visuals were great, but all of the "cool" scenes were shown on the movie trailers advertising the movie. We were hoping to see some different scenes that weren't shown in the previews.

My dd8 thought it was 'sad', but there wasn't anything I thought would be construed as inappropriate for kids around that age and up. The PG-13 rating was probably because the special effects of the disasters rampaging through cities and objects hitting people. I thought it was alright; not one of the finer movies, but a lot of action and FX.

Van Helsing was better.
