Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

Well Holy Hannah!! Count me as one of those that didn't make the connection!!

Of course Dumbledore possessed all 3, but never all at once ... he's had the Elder Wand throughout the books, and had the invisibility cloak until giving it back to Harry in the 1st book ... and then in OOTP he had the wand and the ring together. Had he "borrowed" the cloak back from Harry in HBP he could've thwarted death then himself.

Right, Dumbledore only borrowed the cloak, he was not the owner of it, especially since Harry was already born. Then when his father died he became the next rightful owner of it. When Dumbledor borrowed it again, he still wasn't the owner of it.

Even though Harry dropped the stone in the Forest, he was still the owner of it.

I need to read all the books over again. I think just about everything will come into complete focus.

I'm re-reading Chapter 23 in HBP "Horcruxes". Just in the first few pages I can not possibly see how so many people believed that Voldermort was one of the Horcruxes. It plainly states that a Horcrux is hidden in an object outside the body.

I'm not saying anyone here said or believed that at one time. I've seen it on a few other sites, but its almost impossible to get on those sites right now, so I'm just speaking outloud here.

I need to research how it was that Voldemort came back to a body. I just don't recall some of the previous books right now. I think its at the beginning of GoF. Did he use a Horcrux? I can't remember right now.

I'm just trying to piece everything together myself.

Voldemort regained his body in GoF in the cemetary .. using a bone of his father's, Harry's blood, Wormtail's flesh given voluntarily, etc.

I need to pry back my copy of the book so I can go back and reread that section so I can remember WHY I thought this. . . but there was something when reading that gave me the understanding that in order for this to work, Harry had to believe he was sacrificing himself. Dumbledore knew he'd survive, but Harry couldn't know this - he had to give himself willingly to death.

But I can't remember what in the story made me think that, LOL.

I'm pretty sure this is where Dumbledore said he didn't know for sure that Harry would live, but that he guessed and his guesses tend to be right. Or something like that.

Now. In HBP in the HORCRUXES chapter, Dumbledore tells Harry that Voldemort created 6 Horcruxes. The 7th was what remained inside him after he tried to kill Harry. "The seventh part of his soul, however maimed, resides inside his regenerated body. That was the part of him that lived a spectral existence for so many years during his exile; without that, he has no self at all." pg. 503

So that is where I see many people think that Voldemort was one of the 7 horcruxes. He isn't a horcrux though since its actually inside him. But I see the connection.

Thats what was said in Kings Cross, correct? Thats the explination he gave as to why Harry didn't die. That instead Voldemort actually destroyed one of his own Horcruxes. Am I right? So there were 8? Or was Dumbledore wrong and it was because Harry was the true owner of all 3 Hallow's.

I think, (need to reread) that he said at the end he wanted to put the wand back (I am assuming in the grave with DD body) and we would still be the master of it.) If he died of natural causes then, the power of the wand would die with him.

Is this what others thought?

Yes, there were 7 Horcruxes. Voldemort only meant to make 6 and keep the 7th part of his soul himself, but he unwittingly transferred a part of his soul to Harry when he tried to kill him. The 7 Horcruxes were:

1- diary- destroyed by Harry in book 2
2- ring- destroyed by Dumbledore in book 6
3- locket- destroyed by Ron
4- Hufflepuff cup- destroyed by Hermione
5- Ravenclaw diadem- unwittingly destroyed by Crabbe's Fiendfyre
6- Harry- unwittingly destroyed by Voldemort
7- Nagini- destroyed by Neville

Voldemort was able to destroy his own Horcrux in Harry because he had broken the protective charm that Lily's love created for Harry- he did that by using Harry's blood to resurrect himself in book 4. Thus the "gleam of triumph" in Dumbledore's eyes when Harry told him about it.

I thought the epilogue was cheesy and I didn't like it very much. I really didn't like the name Albus Severus. It sounded weird to me.

I would also have liked more on life after Voldemort for everyone. It would have been interesting to elaborate more on the trio and what their life was like. The epilogue just felt rushed to me.

Other than that I thought the book was AMAZING!! Dobby's death was so sad and I was upset to see him go.

I liked how J.K. Rowling went into Dumbledore's past. In the first few books it seemed to me like Dumbledore was completely different than everyone else and their was no other wizard like him but Harry learns that he is just like every other wizard.

Loved the book, sad it ended. Now I need to go back and reread it again to make sure I got everything!

I *think* he knew all along, since he got a "triumphant gleam" in his eyes when Harry told him that V had taken his blood.

But can I tell you, I was soooo PISSED at Dumbledore when he was telling Snape what Harry would have to do. (This was before we learned that Harry wouldn't really die.) When Snape said something like "so you've just been grooming him like a pig to be slaughtered" I was shouting out "EXACTLY!!!"

Hehe, I know.......as much as it pains me to admit it, that chapter made me SOB and then I was yelling some obscenities to JK Rowling as well.

I think he already conquered death. I thought DD explained that conquering death was not living forever, but to accept it willingly.

BTW, what's the difference between a wizard and a warlock? (In Potterworld, at least.) Are they just really old wizards?

And I was really, really hoping that Harry would be the last descendant of Gryffindor. It would have fit soooo well, and then, there would have been Horcruxes in "artifacts" from all four founders of Hogwarts.

You know, I've heard JKR say several times that she envisioned and wrote the final chapter of Harry Potter many years ago (I think while she was writing Chamber of Secrets) and that she had it locked away and it probably would not change...that it was the end she envisioned and it would be what she would used.

If this is true, I'm ok with the epilogue. It was cheesy and I really wish it would have told more, but if she wrote it very early on and left it unchanged, it's pretty interesting, especially in respect to seeing how her writing has changed and grown. And I can also appreciate her wanting to use it as she originally wrote it.

I wonder what she thinks of all the criticism and disappointment being said about the epilogue.

The epilogue was written back in the beginning, before book #1 was even finished. So I don't think "rushed" would be a good description of it. It didn't give me all I wanted either, but based on the Today Show interview there's a lot about many characters we never knew ... I think the encyclopedia of characters will be GREAT (I'm guessing 2010 or 2011 publication date).

She stated before Deathly Hallows came out that she anticipated that not everyone would like the book, especially the way it ends, but that when you strip everything else away, all the fame, all the fans, she had to keep the ending to what made HER happy. For that reason alone, I like the ending. Think of all the pressure that was on her, to try to please the millions of fans out there.

Although, I have to admit, I was in tears that the series had ended, and I was thrilled woohoo: ) when I found out about her next book. I don't even care how long it takes, just the fact that there will be more information coming makes me pretty excited.

Sorry -- no time to read this entire thread (at this point it would take as long as the book!)...but I did just see the interview with Jo on the Today Show. It was FULL of spoilers, so I was sorry for anyone who was watching and hadn't finished reading yet.

The person who got a reprieve was Mr. Weasly, who was supposed to die in book 5.

She said that Harry and Ron revolutionized the Auror office, and Hermione was high up in the Office of Magical Law Enforcement. No more on Ginny or Luna. McGonagall was NOT head mistress (she was too old.)

ETA: She also said that she is planning on writing an Encyclopedia on HP, but no time soon (and no promises.) Also, she'll write more books, but not on the Wizarding world.

I thought she wrote the last chapter, basically how the series ended, not the epilogue years ago. I think she added the epilogue as the series wore on and saw the fans speculating on the future lives of the characters and to put the series to rest.

Did Harry Potter die?

I'll never read the book, but that was honestly one of the first things I thought of this morning.

Yes, but he didnt stay dead!

I was quite mad that Tonks came and joined the fight. I know it was what she does and it would have been hard for her to stay away but....she just had a baby! My feelings are that she should have thought of him and stayed with him!

So now we have another little boy brought up without his parents. Who do you think raised him?? I'm guessing Tonks mother.

It mentioned that he spent a lot of time at the Potter's house in the epilogue, and that they were going to invite him to move in. It most likely was his grandmother in my opinion.

He looked much more muscular than obese in the chapter illustration . I still would like to know what the dementors made him see.

Well, he had been taking up boxing in the past few books if you remember!

Ok, loved the book, and it couldn't have ended any other way...

Did anyone else yelp outloud when Mrs. Weasly yelled "Not my daughter, you *word that rhymes with witch, but isn't*"!

I literally wooted outloud and DH came running to see what was wrong Totally unexpected, but I LOVED it!

I burst out laughing at that part and my room mate looked at me like I was crazy!

My thought on the reprieve was also Malfoy. I wish we could have found out more about what happens to his parents & their "status". Who did he marry?? Scorpius?? That name definitely says Slytherin!

I wonder if his wife had an animal name like him and his kid!

At least we know it wasn't Millicent, since she liked Hermione!

I think the epilogue made perfect sense. The one thing Harry craved was a family not money, fame or imortality. He has that now.

He has them all now, if he wants them!

Im still wondering which were the two she didnt intend to die. Fred, Mad Eye , Dobby , Crabbe, The minister of magic ( cant remember his name ) Lupin , or Tonks (am i missing anybody?)

Yeah, I've seen it a lot in movies; it's a bit tired. Except here, instead of white room, it's an empty train station. And what was with the "creature" in the room? That was weird. But I did like the end of it, where Dumbledore told him it was all in his head.

I think it was the part of Voldemort's soul that was bound with Harry. That's why it was small and feeble, since it was only a broken part of the soul. That also is the part that shows where Harry stops being a Horcrux, since he was killed at that part, and both his soul and the fragment of Voldemort's were in the "afterlife", but since Harry had control of the Deathly Hallows, he was able to return free of the part of soul that had possessed him.
