Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

Was it broken by neglect? I thought Harry broke it in a rage after Sirius died. (at least that is what my HP obsessed 15 year old niece told me. I am taking her word for it.) I don't remember it.

When Harry found the mirror after Sirius' death, he tried to contact Sirius. When he got no answer, he threw it in his trunk in anger and it broke.

My DD 8, loves the book but can't quite read it because it's soo big, so I've been paraphrasing it to her. And between that and her questions, I'm jumping back and forth between books explaining things. I'm suprisingly more knowledgable than I thought.

My 7 year old daughter has "read" every one of the books. I get them for her on CD and we listen to them everytime we are in the car-they are great for long car trips.

OK, I finally finished!!!! I will admit that I was looking for spoilers (mainly just to find out the fates of Harry, Ron, and Hermione) and read the epilogue when it was posted online, so I knew the ending. I really think that it made reading the book a lot easier for me. I don't know HOW the three of them survived!!! But I'm glad they did.

Wonder who the character was that got the "reprieve" ? I think it was Tonks and Lupin that died "unexpectedly", but can't figure out who it was she'd planned to kill before changing her mind. The only one that makes sense is Malfoy, and things she said in interviews about everybody being "redeemable" lead me to believe that it was her plan all along to save him.

I can answer this, and I apologize if it's already been mentioned...I just finished reading and haven't gotten through all 42 pages, lol. My sister said she was looking at some article and said that JKR said that it was Arthur Weasley who got the reprieve. Apparently he was supposed to die in OotP (which makes sense, knowing what happened to him in that one).

Oh yes, another thing that I don't know if it's been posted or not, but it sounds like JKR may be doing a Harry Potter Encyclopedia some day. I wish I had such a thing now, trying to keep all these people straight, and how they're related!!

JK Rowling was on "The Today Show" this morning. She confirmed what you said about Arthur Weasley above. She said she couldn't go through with letting him die because she had grown to like him too much. She also said the epilogue was originally much longer and included info on what Harry, Ron and Hermione's adult occupations were.

My first thought, when hearing he had lost an ear, was that he could use on of his Extendable Ears as a replacement!

This was my first reaction as well . I imagined he could have it attached like a regular ear, then he could extend it at will.

Loved the book. With over 600 posts, I can't really add much more.

Everyone's had such great thoughts and imput about the book - thanks so much for taking the time to share.

I'm really sad that the series is over, I hope that JK Rowling will publish something else to do with Hogwarts, I know that in times past she has mentioned doing another charity book. There's still questions that I want answered, LOL, and I don't think she'll do that, especially not before her tour this fall.

I think that the reason James, Lily, Lupin and Sirius were the ones that were by Harry when he used the stone was because they were people that he was extremely close to, and all played a parental role to him (meaning Lupin and Sirius here, not James and Lily, obviously), I think it would have been great if Snape was there also, but I may have too much Star Wars on the brain.

Personally, I don't watch the movies, so I can't contribute to those discussing what they are looking forward to seeing.

I'd like to see a happier series this time showing us Harry's adult years. It could start with the funerals, etc. of everyone after all the destruction and what happens in the rebuilding of Hogwarts and everyone's lives. How it impacts both the Muggle & Magic worlds. There are so many things that she could write about.

Then she could have a different series about the future generation at Hogwarts. Some new threat to their peaceful existence.

I just don't know what I'll do without Harry, Ron, Hermione & all the others in my life.

I loved the book, BTW. After my DD reads it, I'm reading it again from the beginning.

I don't know how to prepare my DD19 for this part of the book. She too loves the Weasley twins. I think she will be very upset at this part of the story line. She is already upset about George losing his ear.

Joining.....I finished Sunday, DH finished yesterday, and due to work schedules we STILL have not gotten to talk to each other about it!

But, my friend called me, desperate to chat the other night. She had finished it on Sunday as well, and no one else in her circle was reading it except for one of her daughter's friends. She said to me "I just can't bring myself to call an 11 year old to talk about a book!"

Too funny. That is exactly what I had to do when I got done with book #6. Except I think he was 13. A friend from work had her nephew staying with her and he had finished the book. It was the first person that I knew that had finished it. She got him on the phone for me so that I could talk to him about it. It was great! I enjoyed getting his perspective and having someone to talk to about it.

I've been having dreams but don't remember much when I wake up except that I had HP dreams. They're getting fewer now - Friday night when I was a little ways in and after I finished Saturday night I had them all night long. . . finally a couple nights ago they started slowing down, LOL.


It's funny - a few years ago my aunt had surgery. I called her later that day to see how things went. She was on a heavy dose of morphine at the time and when I asked her what they said was wrong with her she said (in that very drugged voice, LOL) "They said I have. . . what's it called. . . *long pause* Harry Potter Syndrome!" I was dying laughing, she was dead serious. She got a good kick out of it the next day when she was "sober" and I told her the story. So today we were laughing at how obsessed we are and how we're dreaming about it so we officially dubbed that Harry Potter Syndrome.

The possible encyclopedia that I've been reading about on here does seem to be the way to go. Something that gives info on each person's life. I just hate to see the series be over. That's why I was hoping she could do a different type series - rebuilding after the threat. I know it probably isn't likely because you would need some kind of conflict but I just can't imagine my life without future stories about Harry!

I did console myself tonight and saw Order of the Phoenix again after work. The first time I saw it was at the IMAX, and I'm happy to see that it was just as good in 3D. It was practically sold out tonight, too!

I was in the middle of re-reading Book 5 when DH came out last week. Now that I'm done I just jumped right back into that book again, and I'm looking forward to reading HBP again now that I know everything that happens in Book 7.

They're really fun to re-read! I keep finding clues buried in the books that I had no idea would be big when I first read them.

On the Today show this morning JKR said she would definitely continue to write, but she thinks she is done with the wizarding world. She doesn't even think she will do fantasy again. She has also said should would like to write a book for adults.

I just can't imagine...it seems so weird that she would write something non-fantasy or really non-Harry to be honest. I know that isn't really fair to her, but I can't help it. I've been following her and Harry for so long, it's almost like she is part of the world she created. I think if she wrote a new completely different book, I would be reading it looking for signs of Harry and the gang the whole time.
