Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Sandy, dont forget how crazy our weather can be and change on a dime! Thinking good thoughts:)

Dolce...you too...!!!

Love the pics...I really have no idea what I am in for in Oct! lol

Just found out we have been changed to Old Key West, where I have been wanting to stay.

I finally spoke to a real live person at Southwest who said my Thursday flight will originate from Birmingham. Based on Maroo's weather picture from yesterday, they are schedule for snow. Now I need to find out how the Birmingham airport deals with snow. :scared1:

Just dropping in to wish all of you the best of luck with the marathon this weekend!!!! I also hope you all have safe ON-TIME flights with no delays!!!:goodvibes

It will be in the 20's here for highs and close to 0 for lows with wind this weekend so I'm sure you will be warmer in Florida than I will be here in CT!!!! :lmao:

I have begun packing (and stressing, :scared1: I couldn't find my crocs! and Sandy said I would need them. But it is okay now, I found them.) I never begin packing this early. I am a last minute, don't worry about it kind of packer. I have my shoes in a special bag to carry on the plane. :confused3

I yelled at DS and am not even sure why, :sad2: he was asking a lot of questions.

aww - yes, you will be so happy having your crocs after you run!!

I am cleaning my closet - looking for a rain jacket!

Trying to remain calm here. We are under a winter storm warning that should carry over until Friday morning. I am supposed to leave my house at 3:30 am to drive an hour to a small, regional airport. In good weather, that gets me to the airport 90 minutes before my flight. I can't leave any earlier because DH doesn't get home from work until 3:30 am.

I really do think I will eventually get out of BMI on a flight on Friday. I'm just worried about driving in blowing snow in the middle of the night on a deserted country interstate. I'm hoping that when DH wakes up, he will be able to request tomorrow night off so that I can drive over in the afternoon and stay at a hotel near the airport.

I wonder if I could fly standby on Thursday evening? Does anyone know Airtran's rules about standby? If I am going to spend an extra night at a hotel, I would rather have it be an airport hotel in Orlando!

You guys - don't hate me.. but I'm so anti-crocs it's not funny. (I think they're ugly! :snooty: :tiptoe: running away now before things are thrown at me! :teeth:) I don't know that I'll take anything to change into after the race - I plan to head back to my hotel to shower/change/eat pretty quick.

The furthest I've gone on a training run is 20 miles... and then after I stopped off at the running store for almost 1 hr trying on clothing (don't worry - I pretty much bought what I tired on) and chatting with them. They were all like  you just did 20 miles?!? Most people are heading to an ice bath right about now. I was like... nope, I feel 100% fine. I was. I was slightly sore that day but nothing major and no soreness at all the days after.

I honestly think that I'm built to run distance. I'm becoming fine with distance now. It's just my stupid IT band injury!

OK: So mega prayers that we all have safe flights. (no crashing.. no crashing.. no crashing...) No flight delays. No ice problems for those of you expecting icy weather. It's supposed to be 29 for a high here in Dallas on Friday but I don't think there will be any precipitation. So, no snow/ice here - just cold! cold! cold!

So... how does one slip vodka past TSA? Waiting to purchase it on the flight is pointless as taking off in an airplane is one of my greatest fears. I need the vodka before the take-off - not after!
(I'm joking! I'm not going to attempt to smuggle vodka past TSA even though it's tempting!!)

dslvr I would say call Airtran - the airlines usually would love for you to leave before the storm - one less person to move -

Dolce we all were confident in your Marathon training - :goodvibes glad you are realizing how good you really really are!!

Have you checked Chicago weather? :scared1: We're on the first flight - but its at 9:30 AM - and there is no way we can leave tonight...

I cant find the dern jacket (found 4 bags of trash :rolleyes1)

I have been trying on clothes - I think I will be ok on my lower half (and I'll bring a throwaway blanket for the wait) with just compression shorts and sweats... I ran in them when it was cold -

I will have on long underwear shirt
'08 Tech Marathon shirt long sleeved
WISH shirt short sleeves
polar tech coat
Balaclava hood
gloves - mittens

I bought a bunch of the hand warmer, toe warmers - I need to buy a whole foot one for Sunday volunteering at the water stop! (its going to be cold, and I'll get wet from the passing of the water to the runners!)

I'm trying to print and make Cynthia's planning sheets - I think Happy Camper would like these (and why didnt I think of this months ago? Stupid me)

The ten day says it will get warmer in Florida - up to 70 deg -so I guess I'll pack that swim suit... shorts, capris... pants, sweats, polar tech :confused3

I'm checking one bag and putting in a flask of rum - then order slushies or a coke and dump some rum :rotfl2:

back before tsa rules I used to carry on a bottle of champagne!!
slug back the vodka while waiting in the security line

I need a vacation!

Wow... just checked the weather for Lake Buena Vista.

Now it says Saturday high 48 and Sunday high 47. It's been similar weather here in North Texas for the past couple of months. As long as I'm running, it will be fine... I'm just worried b/c I won't know how much walking I'll have to do until I have to do it.

This past Sat I ran in 30 degree weather in running tights, shorts over, wicking short sleeved t-shirt and a wicking zip-up (almost see through it's so light). That has been my normal cold running attire. I've run in that from 30 degrees until almost 60 degree weather. Saturday I started out with gloves but wound up taking them off a couple of miles in.

I don't know what I'm going to do this Sunday. I did purchase a ticket for the race retreat tent. I'll be able to hang in there for awhile until I need to move to the corral. I'm not going to submit my times to move up a corral since I can't run at my normal pace due to my injury. So, I'll be in the general corral... or should I submit my times? I will start off running for as long as I can. Maybe I should submit my running times and get bumped up a corral? :confused3

For the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot it was really cold that morning and wasn't supposed to rise above the 50's in temp until after I finished my run. I had on that lightweight zip-up and pinned my bib over that. Normally in that temp I'm fine running in that zip-up but for some reason, that day, I overheated and had to struggle out of the zip-up with the bib still on. I wasn't planning to bring that with me to Disney - it's not a throw-away.. too $$ since it's wicking. I planned to buy a zip-up sweatshirt that I can toss when I'm warmed up and then just run in a short sleeved wicking running t-shirt. Now I'm concerned that I'll need more then the t-shirt but I'm worried that if I bring the zip-up to go over I'll wind up hot (like at Thanksgiving) and then will have to deal with carrying the zip-up the rest of the 26 miles. *ugh*

Sorry this is all a ramble. I don't know what to do. What's everyone's advice?

Oh! And Sandy! I have a question for you. In 2008 you went to the MK for the marathon to watch your DH - correct? How did that work? My mom wants to go to the MK to watch for me. When did transportation begin for it? Will she need to get in on her park ticket? ... do you know? :confused3

OK.. and back to that ALL of us will have SAFE flights with NO flight delays because of bad weather, ect… and no slick road conditions (dislver, I’m thinking of you). I’m going to keep saying that .. and keep saying that … and keep saying that so it’ll be true – right?

Dolce, thanks for the positive thoughts. I don't have any great clothing advice for you. I'm walking the half, and thus, plan to dress more warmly than if I was running. I'm wearing tights, wind pants, a short sleeve tech shirt under a long sleeve tech shirt, gloves, and hat. I am also wearing a cheap men's zip up sweatshirt and a scarf that I can toss if I actually get too warm. Finally, I took Sandy's advice and got hand and feet warmers for the corral.

I'm still waiting for DH to get his butt out of bed so he can find out if he can take the night off.

Prayers for a safe drive for you. If your DH can't get off then don't worry, you'll get there. I agree with Sandy, call and see about standby. Couldn't hurt.

You guys - don't hate me.. but I'm so anti-crocs it's not funny. (I think they're ugly! :snooty: :tiptoe: running away now before things are thrown at me! :teeth:)
Personally, I think Crocs are ugly also and would never have bought any. Mine I got for free. I will say that with socks (where they are ugliest) they are very comfortable.

The furthest I've gone on a training run is 20 miles... and then after I stopped off at the running store for almost 1 hr trying on clothing (don't worry - I pretty much bought what I tired on) and chatting with them. I don't think you should worry. You have been doing your training and I think you are ready physically and mentally. Remember that one run a few weeks ago where you stopped because you had reached your goal for the day, but you felt like you could have kept going? I think you will be fine.

So... how does one slip vodka past TSA? Waiting to purchase it on the flight is pointless as taking off in an airplane is one of my greatest fears. I need the vodka before the take-off - not after!
How about the airport bar? Our airport has one in a couple of the terminals.

So, when looking for Sandy in the corral, I just need to look for a pile of winter clothes. :goodvibes

I think you should submit your times. If you are worried about holding up others in the corral, then go to the back of the corral. By the time you start walking the runners will have spread out. Bet there will be others from that corral with you.

I would wear what you have been wearing. Can you tie your jacket around your waist if you take it off?

I am going with my usual attire minus the thermals. I will have long pants, long shirt and jackt. Gloves and headband also. My new jacket doesn't have a hood. I did stop at the Thrift store today and picked up a large, thick sweater to wear while we are waiting in the corral.

So you all will be able to recognize us, I am posting a picture of Elizabeth and I. She is the blond in the middle, I'm on the end. We probably won't be wearing our crowns this time.

OK, Airtran just put a notice on their website encouraging people flying through ATL on Friday to change their flights (for free!). DH is at work. I have impressed upon him my desperate need to be on a flight tomorrow morning.

I have no idea where I will sleep tomorrow night, but I don't care. It looks like I can get a room at All Star Music for about the same amount as something near the airport, so I might do that. I just need DH to talk to his supervisor and call me back!

dislvr[/B :yay: Get out of town!! I checked, nothing on AA yet - checked and we can fly at 8 pm tonight to Dallas - and sit in the airport from 11pm to 6AM to catch the connecting flight!!

DH didnt think much of that idea!! :rotfl2:

Dolce I think you have trained and ran a race in the cold - I would suggest going to JoAnn Fabrics and getting 1 1/2 yard of fleece for a throwaway blanket ($5) you can take it on the plane as a lap blanket - so it wont use up room in your carry on!

MK viewing - on the website (I'll find the link and bring it over) in the pamphlet they have a rundown of where to view the runners. I took a taxi from BCV to MK (original plan to take the last bus out at 5am to epcot take the monorail from epcot to mk - but I missed that bus - you have to remember all the roads the busses use will close down for runners very early....

They let us in MK at 6am without a ticket - lots of people some "face characters" were out around 8 - Casey's is open selling coffee, chocolate - but again, make sure she has hat and gloves on!! I stood near Casey's then when dh went by I ran over to see him run out of the castle - some suggest to stand on the run pass towards Tomorrowland - make sure she knows what you are wearing, and you know where to look for her!! :goodvibes

I then got on the monorail and went back to Epcot (needed a ticket) walked out to the BCV by Stormalong Bay to cheer when he came by (there are WISHers there!) then I went back to the spectators area for the finish line! (I think you said you bought her a space tho at epcot cheer area!)

Lisa beautiful people!! You look gorgeous!! :cutie:

crocs :rotfl2: yes, I hate that they are so UGLY!! But I love that because of crocs, I can walk! Before crocs I was always in so much pain (plantar fascia) Now, I have hope that the chiropractor will help ease that and I'll be croc free soon!! (I wear the flip flop crocs the most - they arent too ugly!

DH couldn't get the night off, but one of DD's teachers agreed to babysit! Thank goodness. I'll be staying at a cheap hotel near the airport, but at least I'll be there.

Now I have to run home, clean the house, and pack. It's going to be quite a night!

Good Luck!! Yay that the teacher will come and sit!! :goodvibes I"m going to rely on the weather and the airport to get us out on time tomorrow!!

ALMOST forgot to arrange a pig sitter!! (DD was supposed to take care of that!) The neighbor will come in - they are cute guineas... but they do need to be fed and watered!!

Need to take puppy to DS' house
need to get more guinea pig food...
oh and a foot warmer for the Sunday volunteer day
rubber gloves so my hands dont get wet and freeze....

sheesh

oh I have to call the police with our license plate to leave our car at the train station lot...

so many details...
the paper!! I forgot to stop the paper!!

Dislvr - sorry DH couldn't get off, but YAY!!!! for the teacher.

Sandy - breathe Sandy breathe......in and out.....in and out......

Well, Sandy, I saw your post about possibly flying into DFW tonight I was like  I was willing to forgo sleep (and sleep at work tomorrow instead  ) and drive over to DFW to pick you and your family up for a midnight IHOP run so you wouldn't have to spend the entire night in the airport.

Fortunately I scanned your last post before I responded. Have a SAFE flight out tomorrow. You'll be fine!

As for my race day - I just picked up some arm warmers to wear since I'm going to have short sleeves and I have decided to bring my wicking running jacket to wear - if I haven't gotten too hot in it during training runs in this type of temp, logic dictates that I shouldn't get too hot in it on Sunday.

I'm going with logic.

Thanks for the tip for my mother to the MK. I'll have her get on the last bus (I just read about how the transportation stops between 5:00am - 7:00am) or I'll tell her to cab it. I've also told her to hang out in the MK for the morning (she will have a park ticket).. how will that work? Will they make all of the spectators exit the park at a certain time and then those that want to will have to re-enter on a park ticket??

I've then told her my expectant finishing time so she'll hop the monorail and make her way over there in time for that. She hasn't been to the MK in 10 years (she didn't go while at Disney for my b-day in Dec 08), so I want her to hang out there and have fun as long as she can.

Dislver: I'm glad that you're at least getting to the airport earlier than planned - I'm sorry that you're not actually going to be able to fly out when you want to. But, you will get out on time and you will have a SAFE flight.

I can't WAIT to meet you all Sat night for dinner!

Dolce that was my first thought as well - DFW? I have FAMILY near DFW (of course I havent seen them since I was 12 or 13!!) and Dolce is in Dallas!! (its Texas - everything is bigger in TX - I've flown in that airport a few times!!)

but dh is still doing stuff that has to et down - and we still have to take the puppy to DS'!!

not to mention packing.. :rolleyes1

MK - its just a bit of pixie dust I imagine - they didnt make spectators leave at all - everyone just kind of merged! At least thats what they did in '08...

its almost time to leave!!
