Hakuna Matata - Fantastic in February

Well, my stride of 6.2 mile mornings came to a screeching halt today at 3:45 am when my 4 year old woke up hungry and raring to go - I can't run while he is up bc he just won't leave me alone! Thankfully, today was going to be just a 3.1 day anyway, so I'll make it up tomorrow by running 6.2 instead of 3.1. Aah, life!

Dave, you really are doing amazing - I hope you are proud of yourself!

For the first time in forever, we didn't do the dining plan this last trip. We got 30% off our room and I actually did the math - it was cheaper for us to just buy OOP with our particular reservations than buy the plan and tickets which we didn't need. And for the first time in EVER I actually didn't gain any weight at disney - so I now know the secret - just run 1/2 marathon and don't get the dining plan so you feel like you have to eat everything in sight!

Bunnyfoo - I didn't know chiropractors can help with running - I have a chiro friend so maybe I'll bug him!

Kippwade -good job at the runnig - and I took a look at your blog - I like it!

Mike - what race are you looking at? I'm not too far so if it's a good length, I would definitely consider it. I would love an "in between" length bw a 1/2 and full marathon to do. they help with my distance running - it's easier for me if someone else does the math on what a particular distance is!

Hey team!!!

Well today is off to a good start if you don't count the egg mcmuffin I had for breaky cause I was running late :rolleyes1

Weather is amazing, it is a long weekend and I am feeling good and strong!!!!

Not sure what has gotten into me today but just got a good feeling about life and can't wait to get out there and start living life as a athletic, healthy person!!!!!!

Have a super day all get out there and own the day!!!

Happy Friday team! Monday is a holiday in Ontario so four day weekend! Yay!

Kim - Don't feel bad about the Egg McMuffin. If you got the one with ham, they're not too bad calorie wise and you're getting protein from the egg and ham. Glad you're feeling super chipper today! Sounds like it's going to be a good weekend! How's your rib cage feeling?

Thanks for the warning about the movie! I'll most likely go and see an afternoon showing. Yikes!

Kimberley - The chiropractor I see is also a personal trainer. But I'm thinking that most chiropractors should be able to look at your running form and making suggestions. He suggested that we do work on my core, glutes and hips - which is more or less what I'm doing now with my PT.

Congrats on not gaining any weight at WDW! I have to agree with you that the dining plan is a lot of food! I think at some of the sit downs, they said I could have an appetizer, main and a dessert. I ended up just tasting part of the appetizer but I'd feel bad too because I hate seeing them throw away food.

Dave - Good job on the workouts!

Kim/Saylan/Sue - Any plans for the long weekend?

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

I'm listening to a news article about health care costs. I wonder how it would affect our nations health care spending if adults got tax breaks for being healthy and exercising regularly. What if health club memberships were tax deductable along with our exercise clothing, shoes and equipment. What kind of message would it send if we got a government bonus check for getting a good check up result on our annual physical. Trips to races and entry fees should be tax deductable, a vacation to a sport training camp or a weight loss camp, should be rewarded. Instead we get goverment disability for being to fat to work, along with government health insurance.

Ok off my soap box.

Good training walk today. Very relaxed 4 miles in 45:10 after a mile and a half warmup.

Everyone have an awesome day.

Dave:hippie:

Happy weekend, everyone,

Kim: your post makes me smile. Hope the day continues to be a good one!

Vicky: Enjoy the long weekend!

Kimberley: The issues with the kids only gets worse. He'll want to run with you next, then 1/2 mile in, he'll decide that he wants to go to the park or go back home to bed. I speak from personal experience ;) Good luck getting it done!

Kipp: Glad you figured out the training schedule and are doing so well with it :thumbsup2

Dave: Free dining only made sense for us one trip so it is good that you plan to look at all the options. I was surprised to see how much free dining was actually costing us.

AFM: I'm going to *try* to do 6 miles tomorrow at 1:1 interval. I really don't want to set eyes on that pace bus next Sunday! Pain is ever present but at least I can tie my own shoe again. Might get one of those tent massages after the race if they do work on back muscles; does anyone know? I'll post my bib number later next week for those of you who are interested in keeping up with me. I'm going to FINISH the race but I'll need quite a bit of cheer leading to get there!

Hi all! another bad morning - dh kept me up with his dang heartburn and then my alarm clock didn't go off so I woke up a 1/2 hour later than I needed to. so I only got to do 3.5 miles instead of the 6.2 I wanted to do.

I don't get a long weekend (poor me) but am hoping to go running tomorrow while dh and ds are at ice skating lesson.

elizabeth - I'm worried about that! he complains when he has to walk any length of time now so I'm hoping he won't ask!

hockeychick - that egg mcmuffin sounds good

bunnyfoo - enjoy the movie!

great weekend all!

I agree with that :thumbsup2 I think they should be. In Canada, those kinds of activities are tax deductible but only for kids. I think those should apply to adults as well.

A friend of mine works for a company where he gets a wellness expense account. So every year, they get something like $1000 to spend on whatever they want as long as it's health and fitness related - so it could be running shoes and a monthly gym membership, a bike ... Another friend gets free running shoes. I was jealous! We don't even get a discount at a gym ... and we're a really big company. Zippo.

Kimberley - Hope you're able to catch up on sleep and running this weekend! Hope DH is feeling better!

Hello team! Happy Friday!

Sue - I tried a Yoga class once and didn't like it. I'd like to try Pilates, but the classes at my gym do not work with my work schedule.

Vicky - I danced and did cheerleading as a kid. It's nice to take classes again. My previous experience with Yoga wasn't great, so I was thinking of trying Pilates. I don't know how different Pilates is from Yoga?

Dave - I agree racing is getting expensive. I don't think 2013 marathon weekend is in the cards for me. There are too many other trips I'd like to take. We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter in 2010 and loved it. Since we stayed there Disney refurbed all the rooms. Plus, you can take a boat to DTD or to the Riverside resort.

AFM - So glad it's Friday! It's a long weekend too since I get Monday off.

I played raquetball for the first time last weekend. It was fun, my arm was pretty sore afterwards. We played again on Wed and I felt much better after that game.

We went out for Indian Food on Valentine's Day and Patrick brought me flowers. That's a lot for us, since we usually don't do anything for Valentine's day.

This weekend I have to go dress shopping... again, ugh. I need to get a dress for a black tie dinner I'm attending next month. Also, have ballet class on Sunday.

Have a great weekend!
Emily

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! We had a bit of unexpected snow here so I moved my LR indoors. Well it was unexpected for me because I forgot to check the forecast last night  Anyway, I have to say thanks to Mike and Kim for getting me out of my housecoat and into my runners this morning. I'd still be with my mug of hot chocolate watching the snow if they hadn't given me a push to get off my butt. :thumbsup2

I did most of the mile splits in the range of 10-9:30 m/m and I finished the last mile at 8.16 m/m. I had to work for that one because I usually run that fast only for a 1/4 mile.

Emily - I think Sue would be the better person to explain the difference between pilates and yoga. But from my experiences, I felt that pilates was closer to "exercising" than yoga was - I felt yoga was more about stretching and I never felt quite comfortable doing the poses - mainly because I was never sure if I was doing them properly. There's also the whole spirituality, mind body aspect to yoga ... And I have a hard time just sitting and being during some of those. Some of the pilates exercises remind me of crunches or other core exercises I might do with my trainer. I tend to sweat more with pilates exercises as well.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Dave: Very forward thinking of you. Here is in Canada, it would be a no brainer for the government to do that… in the US, I think it would also definitely behoove private insurance carriers in the long run to offer some financial incentive to their subscribers who engage in a healthy lifestyle.

Elizabeth: best of luck at the Princess. I have a cousin going down there also, running her first half marathon, so now I have two people to check up on!

Kim: Long weekend here too. What is yours for? The government created “Islander day” a few years ago. But it is a day off for almost everyone here except me. I kind of have a weird work situation where I get some Canadian holidays and some US ones. While I miss Islander day, I do get back to back long weekends in May with Victoria day and Memorial day!

Vicky/Emily: I am with you re:yoga. I tried it as part of the P90X program…never again. I also have a “Pilates for Men” video sitting there collecting dust. I tried it once for like 10 minutes and it seemed too Yoga like and never tried it again. Maybe I should give it another shot.

AFM: Knock on wood, but I have somehow eluded the dreaded nasty cold that the rest of the family had. We are still following the pattern of decent weekday-crappy weekend weather here but I got a nice 11 mile run at a 9:30 pace in Friday evening on the treadmill.

Hope everyone has a great week
Robbie

Hi all! Well, I'm stuck here working on president's day, but I did do my 6.2 miles this morning so at least off to a good start.

I agree about running being expensive. I have three races to pay for by 2/29 if I want the "discount rate" which are $40 for a 15k in july; $55 for a 1/2 in april; and $70 for a full marathon in october. I thought running was supposed to be cheap!

RadioFanatic: Yeah, I think what that really means is that running is cheap, but running 'races' is NOT! :rotfl: And then you add in the cost of gear and whew! But on the other hand, it is cheaper than playing hockey or football or GOLF! :lmao:

Last week was really busy so I am hoping for a more relaxing one this week. Over the weekend, I got in two runs. One on Saturday night on the prairie path for 4.5 miles and one on Sunday on the same path for 8.5 miles. I kept my pace at 11:00/mm for both runs.

The evening run started out at dusk but it got dark really fast! And then it was like pitch black! Even with the headlamp, I felt a little creeped out with all the sounds of movement alongside the path as I ran alone in the woods. Too many horror movies! :rotfl:

I defintely enjoyed the Sunday run -- bright and sunny and gorgeous outside! The temp was around 40 so I just had to take advantage of that! There were a lot of runners, walkers, and bikers on the path. I aaw several grandfathers with their grandchldren riding bikes -- that brought a smile to my lips.

This week I am going to start working on my speed intervals. Now that Mike and Vicky are running at super-speed now, I better start trying to work myself a little harder so I don't fall behind! ;) What are you guys eating for fuel cuz I need some of that! LOL

I finally updated my blog after two weeks! I let that fall behind for way too long. But everytime I thought to update it, I was either busy at that moment, or, I was heading to bed and was too tired. There just aren't enough hours in my day....

Have a great week everybody!

Happy Monday, everyone,

Robbie: good job avoiding the cold; I'm doing the same thing here. Nothing worse than trying to run when you're all stuffy.

Rick: Glad that you had such a good Sunday run. Good luck with the new intervals.

AFM: I still can't run well because of the back pain. I'm now going to walk the Princess and my goal is to finish as close to 3 hours as I can. Bib #20876. Feel free to send me an e-mail on Sunday as I'll have my phone with me. I need all the encouragement you can give me! email removed

Question:

When should I stop taking my nsaids? I know not to take them during the race but when should I stop beforehand? The night or day before? I'm taking Relafen (Nabumetone) currently so it is prescription strength. Also, is Tylenol okay to take during the race? I'm going to need some type of pain intervention.

Hi team! Happy Monday! I didn't realize it was President's Day in the US - is that a holiday for everyone?

Elizabeth - I'm not too familiar with NSAIDs but I have taken Tylenol during the races and was okay with it. They have them at the med tents in the race and afterward. Best to ask your doctor about when to stop the NSAIDs. I think Coach Charles might know as well.

See if you can meet with up some of the WISHers in the corals. I'm sure someone else is walking and maybe you can walk with them :)

Rick - I've gone running when it's late out and gotten stuck on a path that's a bit creepy! I know what you mean about finding the noises scary! I eat Frosted Flakes before I go for a short run but it doesn't last very long! I actually don't run that fast ... only when I can pace someone.

I think running can be just as expensive as golfing... we don't have to buy clubs and stuff like that but once you add in physio, massages ... Ok well I do because I'm injury prone  LOL

Kimberley - Yup running has become expensive. I think the race fees have also gone up somewhat in the past few years. Plus I've also noticed there isn't as much in the goody bags any more :(

Robbie - We have similar weather patterns here in Toronto too. Sunny and warm on the weekdays and then it snows on the weekends. What is up with that? LOL Good job on the 11 miler!

AFM - I did an hour session with my trainer this morning. I tweaked my glute yesterday so he had to stretch me out - always fun with a ton of people around. After I worked out, I did a 30 min tempo run on the TM. I'm not exactly sure how a tempo run is suppose to go so I did 15 mins at 10:45 m/m, 10 mins at 9:40 m/m and 5 mins 10:30 m/m.

Oh I got my flights booked to LA for the DL 1/2! Apparently that race sold out yesterday! Who knew at $150... they didn't even get a chance to raise the prices LOL

Now I'm off to have lunch with my dad ... Family Day and all :) Have a great day everyone!

Good morning Team.

I was very happy to see 174 on the scale today, down another 1.5 lbs.

I had a nice workout this morning with a training partner. We warmed up for a mile and a half then did 4 miles timed in 45:10 followed by a 1.5 mile cool down. So 7 miles of motion but only 4 that I count.

I'm tired now and ready for a nap.:cloud9:

I take advil, or Aleve vey sparingly.

Dave:hippie:

Dave: Your weight loss progress is fantastic! :thumbsup2 I finally started losing again, after a few months of staying the same. I have lost 6 lbs since Feb 7th. Woo Hoo! Now I just need to keep it going.

My immediate goal is to lose 15 lbs before the Illinois Half Marathon at the end of April. Then, I want to lose another 20-25 lbs to reach my goal weight by the Chicago Marathon in October.

I gotta get my "Grrrrr" on and follow your lead to be focused and determined.

You are doing great also Rick. Plenty of Grrrrrrrr to go around.

I had fun this weekend going through pants and finding those that fit now, those that will fit soon and boxing up those that are to big now. I'm down a good 3 inches in pants sizes.

I was at 36" and now I'm looking fondly at a couple of pairs of 32 waist pants that I really like.

Dave:hippie:

Thanks, Vicky and Dave,

I have a call in to the doctor but I was feeling a bit anxious about everything as I get packed so I thought I would ask my favorite athletes. I'll pack some Tylenol just in case the pain gets too bad. I'm going to try to run/walk without it first so that I have a good indication of just how well I'm managing the pain on the course.

Can y'all tell that I'm getting nervous?;)
