party: Happy Birthday Kim!! party:

:bday:

Hope you're having a wonderful birthday!!

Happy Saturday!

Kim~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you have a wonderful day and you get to do some fun stuff!

Kimberly~ Most excellent job getting your 30 miles in!! I might actually sit through an episode of the show to see if I can pick you out of the audience. Oh, if you are looking for a great 25k and can travel, there is a great one in Grand Rapids MI that is the largest in the country and celebrating 35 years this year.

Dave~ I think I would want to wrestle somebody big and furry, like maybe Baloo!

Tandy~ Enjoy your walk/ run!

Elizabeth~ I hope you are having a great time at WDW!

AFM~ After working all night, I met Rick at the gym and did a slow 10k with a pace of 11:12. I've got an appointment and then its time to crash for the day. Tomorrow it is supposed to be in the mid 40's here and all the snow is going to melt away. Other than that, I'm starting to get a little pumped up about my marathon next weekend.

Hope all of you are having a great day! - Mike :cool2:

Hey everyone!!! Did read everything but having a crazy day will post tomorrow

Thank you for the birthday wishes here and on FB. You all make me feel so special:grouphug:

Just dropping in for sec to say...

Happy Birthday, Kim!
Hope you have a great race Elizabeth!
Hope everyone else is having a great weekend. I know I am...we were supposed to get 20cm of snow, but it never came and it is great conditions for a nice 10 mile hilly run.

Kim: Happy belated birthday! I hope you had a great day! What did you do to celebrate?

Robbie: How'd the run go?

Mike: Glad you were able to meet up with Rick. It's so nice that you guys have been able to do some training together.

AFM: I live in KC, but own a house in Lawrence. I lived there for 14 years. So, huge KU fan. Needless to say, yesterday's game was very exciting! We didn't get to run because Harrison has a really bad cough. He was willing to try but everytime he moves, he coughs more. So, I'm going to get out there today, I hope. Have a great day.

Yesterday was a really great 8.8 mile run, most of which I got to do with Mike on the Treadmill next to mine. It was one of those "everything felt right" runs when you know you could just go on forever. A great way to begin the day. :goodvibes

Today is a Rest Day. So I think I will go for a long walk in the afternoon -- it is supposed to be sunny and in the 40s (but windy).

Congratulations to all our WISHers running races this weekend! A special congrats to Elizabeth who is powering through the Princess, showing her determination and commitment and "Grrrrrrrrrr!" attitude! :thumbsup2

Hey team!!!!!!

Actually I celebrated by going to a friends daughters Jack and Jill. It was alot of fun. Next year I plan on spending my birthday at disney doing Princess. I did the inaugural so should go for the 5th anniversay:thumbsup2

Rick you and MIke are machines, I feel like such a slug going to get out for a nice long walk today cause it is just beautiful out there we have lots of snow but the sun is shining and not windy at all.

AFM: I think Vicky and I are doing a CN Tower stair climb in April. The CN Tower was the largest free standing structure in the world but I think it is now 2nd after something in Dubai but regardless it is about 1776 stairs. Just have to find a way to train for that. I live in a fairly small town with no buildings and where I work I think the highest building is about 5 stories high:scared1:

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Congratulations Elizabeth!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

We're so proud of you! WTG on finishing the Princess Half!! :thumbsup2

Vicky~ Hi! Could you add the Air Force 5k on September 14th for Liz and myself? Also, Liz will be doing the half marathon on the 15th! Thanks! :)

Elizabeth~ Congrats on your race!!! :thumbsup2

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! -Mike :cool2:

Hi everyone! Happy Monday!

Mike - WTG on that speedy 5K! What's your PB for a 5K? I've updated the team calendar so check it out when you have a chance and let me know if there's anything I missed. How's your flu? Are you feeling better? Do you have runner tracking available for your marathon next weekend?

Kim - A Disney race for your birthday sounds like a great plan! I can't wait to see the anniversary medal - I really liked the one they had this year. The weather yesterday was gorgeous but I still did my miles indoors on the TM  The forecast is calling for 7C today but it doesn't look like there's a lot of sun. I'm looking forward to the CN Tower climb! I'll ask my friend at work how she trained for it last year - I believe she didn't have access to a gym or tall building either.

Rick - Love that you get to work out with Mike! Say what happened to the extra 0.2 ;) I'm kidding!! Gotta love those runs where you feel like you can keep going forever! I added DS to the Penguin in Park 5K.

Psst... You only have to bribe Mike with some Tonga Toast ;)

Robbie - How was your 10 miler! The snow missed us as well and we had some gorgeous weather yesterday. There were a ton of people out running!

Tandy - pixiedust: for Harrison! Hope he's feeling better today :) I have another 7.8 lbs I'd like to get rid of  I always seem to gain about 5-10 after Disney. I cut back on the running but keep eating the same way. Hopefully it will be gone by the time the half rolls around in May. I figure that will be an easy way to gain a bit of speed

Oh so I went went for lunch with Sue. I had a rotissiere quarter chicken, no skin with a salad and a diet Pepsi. And for brunch I had an egg white omelet with ham and spinach. I made a chocolate cake on Sunday but only had a slice (cheat day) and will save another piece for the weekend. The rest I'll give away, freeze or my dad will eat. I'll see if I can post a pic later today.

Good luck on your interview today! I can't wait to hear how it goes!! Lots and lots of pixiedust:

Dave - Thanks! I gotta keep up with your awesome weight loss! Great job on the 4 miler! Do you think Disney will organize a guy-themed race one of these years :)

AFM - The weekend goes by waaay too quickly! I got in a 3 miler and a 6 miler on the weekend. The 6 miler went by a lot more smoothly than the 3 mile death march. Funny how that works :)

I made a chocolate cake and some orange flavored whipped cream to go along with it for yesterday. My dad had a few people over for coffee. So it was just a good excuse to bake something! It turned out pretty well I think. I'm hoping I'll be able to register for another baking class today. That class would start next week and go for a month. Unfortunately, it's going to be on a Wednesday night - the good thing is that I won't be exhausted on Saturday mornings.

I'm at the gym tomorrow for training so today will be my rest day.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hey everyone I am home sick today. Considering Mike was sick my boss was also sick I guess I was bound to catch something and now DD says she isn't feeling great....uugghhhhhh

Vicky: Mike is thinking I should wait till I see the physio people before I committ to the CN Tower. I really want to it but will wait to see what they say. Races are ok but he is worried the stairs will be bad for my PF, did you also notice that it is a week or two before Goodlife :scared1::scared1:

Everyone HI!!!! hope everyone had a great weekend.

Kim - No worries! I agree with Mike on that one. Let me know :) I will probably do it regardless. What I'll do that weekend is skip my short run on Saturday, do the climb and then see how I feel for the longer run on Sunday.

I hope things go well at the physio :)

My 13yr old son gave me his final decision over dinner tonight. He is definitely going to train for and run a 5K race with me on March 24th! We are going to do a Run/Walk with 3/1 intervals and have a great time!

I am very excited to cross the finish line of a chip-timed race with him. Before Disney, he had never run a race (other than maybe in his eighth grade gym class). Now I get to take him to a running store, get him some gear, and hopefully watch him find a love of running that we can share.

Hi, everyone,

Just a quick post to thank you all for the encouragement and support at the Princess on Sunday. In spite of my back pain, I had a great time and I feel good to have finished the race. Your support got me through EVERY mile.

I'll post a report tonight!

Kim and Vicky: Wish I was near the GTA, would definitely do the CN tower event. That thing is so high! You really appreciate the height when standing on that glass floor at the top lol.

Rick: That is awesome about your son. It is great that your healthy habit is rubbing off on him. I hope to influence my kids in the same way as they get older.

Elizabeth: Looking forward to your report

Mike: Good luck in your marathon next weekend

AFM: I had a nice run Saturday evening 10 miles @9:30 pace.

Sunday, ran 6 miles at 8:40. Was going to take the day off due to running the night before and it being very windy out, but I bought new winter running jacket/pants for half price, so was eager to try it out. FYI: Canadian peeps- good sale prices on winter gear at the Running Room.

Last night (Monday), I hit the indoor track at UPEI for an hour. Not sure how far I went as my Garmin’s GPS does not work in there and I am bad at keeping track of laps. But I did try heart rate monitoring for first time. Certainly a different experience. I tried to run in the aerobic zone (3 I think). For the first 10 minutes, I had to almost walk to keep myself going into zone 4, but after awhile, I was able to pick up the pace and stay comfortably in zone 3. Can’t say for sure, but think I was going 9:45-ish by the end of it.

Robbie

Hi team. Hope everyone is doing well.

Robbie: You're doing a great job with the runs. Sounds like you're getting some good mileage in there! :thumbsup2I don't like trying to run just by HR, so good job trying that.

Elizabeth: Congratulations! I'm so proud of you.

Rick: Congratulations to your son for making the decision. I love that Harrison will run the 10ks with me. I know it's hard for him and he has to push a lot harder than me, so I am so proud of him. I bet your son will catch the running bug.

Kim: Wow, that stair climb sounds HARD! If you do end up getting released for it, I guess you can just run up and down the same staircase 100 times or so! :lmao:

Vicky: You did so great this weekend. Wow! I am impressed. I cannot say the same. Italian dinner consisted of fried calamari, and italian sausage. Not good! You should definitely do that class. I know how much you love it. Frank's going to be taking cooking classes in a few years when he gets to quit working. He's excited. Doesn't want to bake, but wants to learn how to step it up a level with regular meals.

AFM: The stressful Monday is over. I had my interview, which I think went very well. I was asked 10 questions and I know I answered 8 of them well. 2 were questionable, but oh well. The interviewer was really nice and friendly, but she may be like that with everyone, who knows? Then, studied at the library, and then, went to compete in a math contest. Boy, was I out of my league! There were 20 questions and I didn't know how to do about 15 of them. I just did it to get credit for my honors class, so it's fine. But, I felt kind of stupid.

Ran 3 miles Saturday and 3 on Sunday. I can't get out again until tomorrow afternoon, and hope for 4 or so. I really want to get the miles back up, but don't want any more injuries.

Hello team! I thought I'd give us a bump back up to the top of the page!

Tandy - Sounds like the interview went quite well. When do you find out? I think they always throw a couple of "tricky" questions into the mix - I'll bet they want to see how you answered it as opposed to having the right answer. Was the contest a pass/fail situation or do you get prizes (I know you said it was for credit).

Did you run the 4 miler today? How did it go? WTG on the 3 milers this weekend :) Any pain in your calves?

Rick - That's awesome that DS wants to do the 5K with you! Will he be old enough to do any of the Disney races in January? I've added you to the race calendar.

Robbie - Awesome job on all the running! I wish I had an indoor track near me. The only one I know of is at the university but their gym fees are kind of high and it's not that close to me. Thanks for the tip on the RR! I'll have to check it out at lunch :)

AFM - I worked out yesterday instead of Monday. Did a mix of leg work, metabolic, arms and core. I did some speed training on the TM afterward. I did 6 x 400 at different speeds. What I did was ran for 400 m and then walked for 400 m. So I started out running at 6.5 (9.14 m/m) and worked my way up and finished the last 400 m at 7.6 (7.54 m/m). I just wanted to see what it was like to run a sub 8 m/m pace. The funny thing about running at that pace is that by the time I felt like I couldn't keep up that pace anymore, I was already done

I was talking to one of my coworkers and she mentioned that she's going to be running the Goodlife half as well. She's hoping to break 2:00 too ... We were talking about possibly running together but have to figure something out because she's continuous and I'm a run/walker. And then I realized to get a 2:00 half, I'll have to reach the 6 mile marker in 54:55. That's a bit scary to me because my fastest 10K is about 57 mins. I'll have to work on the TM one of these weekends and see if I can do a 54-55 min 6 miler.

Tonight I'm going to work out/do treatment with my chiropractor. Gotta stay injury free :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hey everyone! Been off the grid for a few days going to NYC to see the View - ended up being great fun - I got literally front row center seat - only a few feet away from Barbara WaWa! But back to the real world this morning with a 6.5 mile run on the dreadmill.

So it looks like I have a lot of CONGRATS to do:

Elizabeth: :woohoo:CONGRATS!:woohoo::cool1::cool1:Great job barreling through even with the back pain - can't wait to hear the details.

Rubato: congrats on finishing your interview!!!:banana::banana: Since you felt good about 8 questions, I'm sure you did great on all 10 bc we are each our own worse enemy!

LB - great time on your 6 miles! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

RunRookie - congrats on getting your son involved! :cheer2:I can't wait for the day my 4 year old wants to join me!

And to others:

Bunnyfoo - you can totally do the 2:00 - I think you have the determination - and you can send the choc/orange cake my way! :)

Hockeychic - I can't think of a better way to celebrate a bday than the princess! (well, maybe the wine and dine, but alas wrong time of year)

Happy Wednesday!

Rick: you were my Prince Charming on race day. I received your texts at just the right time and even read one to a fellow runner who was struggling beside me. She needed that reminder, just as I did, that we were at Disney and needed to enjoy every minute of it.

Everyone: All of the follow up texts and Facebook posts were great too! You kept me focused on the positive of finishing with an injury and not on my slow pace.

My mini race report
:It was a nice day for the race, a bit cool, and toward the end just enough rain fell to re-energize us. The crowds weren't out as much as they were for the January races so the participants kept each other motivated. At one point, the runners actually encouraged the spectators to cheer as we finished mile 13! I stayed with the 3:00 pacer the entire race, passing just at the end and was surprised to cross at 3:18.:confused3 I didn't stop for any photos because I was already spending too much time at each medical tent rubbing BioFreeze all over my back.;) Rumors were that Johnny Depp was at the pirate ship but no one seems to have a picture to back that up. Not as much course entertainment between the 2 parks as there was in January or even at the Princess last year.

Something different for this race was the runner's box:
Princessbox.jpg
I liked it but I heard quite a few negative reviews. There were still the standard Cliff bars, bananas, waters, etc at the end as well. What I liked was that the supply of nutrition was the same for everyone, whether you finished first or last.

I wasn't planning to do it again but the more I think about it the more I want to return for the 5th anniversary next year when I am healed from my injury, just to prove that I can run it at a decent time. Plus it would be great to see Kim and to get that anniversary medal, of course!

Regarding my injury: I'll be in PT for another 4 weeks. I saw the doctor this morning and I finally got out of him what my exact condition is. My back pain is caused by a pars defect, or Spondylolysis. During this visit he also told me that I developed a meniscus tear in my right knee (I was wondering what that clicking sound was when I walked up stairs at POFQ this weekend!) However, with rest for the knee and proper core strengthening for the back, the doctor said there is no reason that I can't continue to run and improve my time. :thumbsup2
