Hakuna Matata - Fantastic in February

Everyone is doing so great! Elizabeth - good luck at the princess, stay healthy and run safe - and most important have a blast for all of us not lucky enough to be able to go!

I ran 3.5 miles today for a total of 23 miles in 4 days. I was going to run 6.5 but got up late so not enough time before work. I'm going to try to run 7 before work tomorrow to make things an easy 30 miles - wish me luck!

Everyone have a great day!

Kimberely: That's some serious mileage. Great job. You're doing so good keeping the streak going.

Dave: Thanks so much for the encouragement. I'm glad to have this team behind me! You are doing an amazing job. Getting a new belt is a huge milestone, because we don't usually attempt a weight loss journey until we're at the limit of the old one! ;)

Elizabeth: How did your run go? Did you do it without pain? I'll definitely be emailing you Sunday! I know walking a half is a lot harder than running it, but you can do it!

Vicky: What will I spend the money on? Running shoes, of course! :lmao: I hope you feel better soon. It sounds like you did everything right.

Kipp: Congrats on the shoes. I am starting to think that my silly shoes may be the cause of my injuries, so it's time for a new pair. :thumbsup2

AFM: Went to the mailbox today and there it was: my nursing school interview letter! I am so excited. They take the top 110 candidates into the interview process and narrow it down to 64. I have to call tomorrow to set up the interview and then, they start on Monday. I think I'm going to schedule Monday just to get it over with. I'm nervous, excited, happy, scared......

I managed 10 miles yesterday. Of course, 6.5 was walking and I did it in 4 shifts, but hey, the foot needs to be babied. I am so proud of Harrison. He's already down 3 pounds and excited to keep going. It's kind of sad that my little 12 year old is on a diet, again, but he's just so inactive unless I push him. We went to the track yesterday and did speed work. I've never seen him run so fast. We only ran a mile, but we did 9 sprint intervals in there, and he pushed it. We're still ramping up for his 10k in April. I have sidelined his training pretty seriously with all my injuries, but I think it's still doable.

Well I finally put a stake in the ground and officially signed up for for my first race of 2012- the Blue Nose 1/2 Marathon in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

My excitement was dampened a bit afterwards however, I read a blog that was not too complimentary of the event. Among the complaints was that there was no corralling at the start line and slower runners and walkers impeded faster runners. Also, the course was not well marshalled as many runners veered off the course. According to the blog, the marathon winner, claims his Garmin said he ran 28 miles! This is a popular destination race, so I am really hoping the blogger was exaggerating or lying, and if not, the organisers learned from their past mistakes.

Has anyone ever run in a race that was very poorly run? I am kind of finding it hard to believe such a well known event that draws thousands of runners every year could be that bad.

Scared? OMG! You are going to NAIL that Interview! I know you will because you want it, you're motivated; and they are going to see how strong a candidate you are when you walk into that room exuding confidence. Just remember that quote from the movie "Cool Runnings" (it is my favorite line): I see pride! I see power! I see a bad-a$$ motha who don't take no crap off of nobody!

Go get em! :thumbsup2

Yesterday, I went to the gym since it was snowing pretty good on my commute from work. We are getting 6+ inches Thursday/Friday so i think my Friday XT will be snow removal! :lmao:

I beat my 5K PR from last November by three whole seconds! I wanted to do a 'race pace' run to see if I was ready for a 5K race coming up in late March. It felt pretty good, especially with the new shoes, but I definitely want to improve my speed and stamina before March 24th. (More about it in my blog)

I keep getting race announcements in email and they are like Kryptonite to my wallet. :rotfl: Mike and I signed up for the North Shore Half Marathon on June 10th. It looks like a fun race with a post-race breakfast (yummy!).

Hope everyone has a great day! TGIF!! Enjoy those Long Runs this weekend!

And sending good vibes and well wishes to all the WISHers running the Princess this weekend! Have a great experience and Run Happy! :thumbsup2

Well, I totally blew it this morning - slept through so no running. :confused3 I'm pretty bummed but I'm determined to run that last 7 miles tomorrow to get my even 30! Especially since I won't be running monday bc I have to get up EARLY to get to NYC to see a taping of the show "the View". should be interesting.

rubato - great job with that 10 miles! that's awesome! and congrats on the interview - kick rear!

Luzz - I have heard rumors that the LV rock and roll race was run really poorly this year with disasterous results. Luckily I have not;however I think you will do fine!

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck to Elizabeth (#20876) this weekend! You are going to rock the race! Take lots of pictures and have a blast!

If anyone is up on Sunday morning, send her a message at molly@nc.rr.com

February
26 - Disney's Princess Half Marathon - Elizabeth

Happy Friday team! I think we dodged the snowstorm - it's been raining all morning but I haven't seen any snow! Woo-hoo!

Kimberley - Have fun on Monday! I've never been to a taping of any show. I hope you get some goodies for being in the audience! And let us know when the episode you were part of airs! Have a great run tonight!

Rick - Thanks for keeping the snow in Chicago! :thumbsup2 As long as it doesn't freeze overnight, I think I'll be able to get in some outdoor miles tomorrow! I got your message about the North Shore Half so I'll update the race calendar. WTG on your 5K run! Can't wait to see how you do in March!

Robbie - I heard the Broad Street Run was pretty badly organized and I think the inaugural Wine & Dine wasn't that great either. I think the lineups at the end were pretty bad and people were getting sick from the heat. I did a 10K at the zoo that wasn't all the great. The cars were backed up a couple of miles and we waited about 30 mins to get into the parking lot. I saw runners getting out of their cars and heading to start on foot. Knowing that, the organizers still started the race on time. And the food at the end wasn't in an obvious place so a lot of people missed it. The Blue Nose seems like a big race with lots of sponsors so hopefully it won't be that badly organized.

Tandy - What Rick said! You will ace that interview! I know how hard you've been working about so I don't think you have a thing to worry about! Were you able to schedule it for Monday?

And congrats on your 10 miler! Are you running the 10K with Harrison? And WTG on his weight loss. That is fantastic! I've seen some of the homework assignments that my coworkers' kids get and it is crazy! It's hard to imagine that they have time to go out and play. I don't remember getting that much homework when I was in grade school. Teachers should give physical activity assignments as homework :thumbsup2

Elizabeth - pixiedust: for your back! Have a fantastic race on Sunday! I will be thinking good thoughts for you! Can't wait to hear how it went :)

AFM - The cold symptoms stuck around only for several hours. After I had a good night's sleep, they were more or less gone! Woo-hoo! I'm still going to keep taking the oil of oregano and extra vitamin C for a couple of days just to make sure.

Oh and I'm down 2.2 lbs this week! :cutie: This week, I replaced dessert with fruit, stopped eating after 8PM and tried to cut carbs wherever I could (except on workout days). So I'm slowly getting back down to my Disney weight. I hope I can get rid of the rest by the time I run the half in May.

I'm meeting Sue for lunch today :goodvibes

Anyone have plans for the weekend? I'm going to run, do a bit of baking and have brunch with a friend on Sunday.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vicky: Congratulations on the weight loss! You're doing awesome. How much more do you have? So, lunch with Sue today, brunch on Sunday and baking? How do you ever manage to lose weight?:lmao: Yes, I'm running the 10k with Harrison. The pain in my foot/feet is not bad enough to keep me sidelined, just bad enough to let me know something's wrong.

Kimberely: Don't beat yourself up about today's run. You'll get it done tomorrow. No worries. Yes, please let us know when the episode airs. We might see you in the audience. Cool!

Rick: Thank you so much for that boost of confidence! And, I love Cool Runnings. Never thought the combination of a Jamaican bobsled team and John Candy would work, but somehow it does. Good job on the PR, even if it is just a few seconds, it still counts! I completely agree with you about races. I just can't even look anymore. My hubby is incredibly supportive, but not about races. He will never understand why I want to pay to run when I can run for free at home. He doesn't get it. He's not a runner. ;)

AFM: Today is going great. I slept in for the first time in forever and then did some homework. I took the dog for a 4 mile walk and am heading out the door soon for a 3 mile run (I think). I called the school and my interview is at 12:30 Monday afternoon. I've got my outfit all worked out and am going today to get my nails done. I never do manicures, but I chew my nails and cuticles and they just look nasty. So, I'm hoping the experts can straighten me out. Plus, I really want a pedicure. I'm wearing open toed shoes, so it's necessary. I'm working on my interview answers this weekend along with 3 more classes of HW and massive studying for an exam. Oh, and my math contest is Monday also (almost forgot about that). Since it's after my interview, I guess I'll be a little overdressed!

Frank is taking me out to our favorite italian place tonight. He wants to celebrate, and I want to stay on my diet. Oh well. I guess one dinner won't kill me. I'll definitely stay away from white sauces and bread. Only one glass of wine :sad1: and a big salad. I am burning about 700 extra calories today, right?

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Vicky that's awesome on the weight loss. I'm hovering around 174 lbs. Last time you guys saw me I was 187 and 3 inches bigger around the middle. I'm eating healthy and as chemical free in my food as possible.

My workout today was a mile and a half warmup then race walked 4 miles in 43:17 for a 10:50 average pace. Very happy with that. My PR is 43:03 and I might have bettered that but my ear phones were messing up this moning and I spent some concentration time tring to get them working while I walked.

Have an awesome day guys.

Hi kids!

Dave~ Great job on the weightloss and training! Reading your posts and the ones from several others are motivation for me to get out and move!

Vicky~ Awwww...:cloud9: Thanks for the nice comment! You will always be able to use my arm, I didn't want to leave Kim out.
Also a great job on the training and weight loss! My flu slowed me down, but I'm back to feeling better and better get moving if I am to keep up with you!

Tandy~ I'm sure that you will do great in the interview! Good luck, and enjoy dinner!

Elizabeth~ Have fun at the Princess! Someday I'm sure I'll also be out there in pink!

Rick~ did you actually shovel or just snowblow?

Kip~ Yeah for new shoes! I read your blog, keep up with the workouts, soon you will be outside!

Luzz~ Congrats on signing up for your half marathon!

AFM~ Having the flu last week slowed me down. But, I did get to sleep alot! I'm going to the gym today and will probably run a 5k on the TM. Next week is a travel weekend to the Little Rock 5k and Full marathon. It will be my 4th full and all since September of last year. The bummer is that I have to work straight through until I leave on Friday morning.
I did get two cardio workouts already today while shoveling heavy wet snow. Once at 230am and then again at 800am. Yesterday we had grass turning green and flower bulbs coming up, today a winter wonderland.

Vicky~ Please at the North Shore half marathon (June 10th) to the schedule when you can. Rick talked me into it...

Shoveled. Too many cars in the driveway to snowblow...

Vicky: I 'really' had to utilize ALL my negotiation skills to get Mike to sign up for the North Shore HM. :rotfl: He hardly ever wants to run a race.... LOL

Flying to WDW tomorrow at 7AM. Thanks for the well wishes and encouragement! I'll be sure to post a mini report when I return.

Elizabeth

Got my 5k done in 27:24 with a pace of 8:42 m/m.

Rick~ Very funny...:rolleyes1

-Mike :cool2:

Happy weekend y'all.

This weekend will be an easy one with 1 hour walks with Sally and recovery form awesome workouts this last week. Next week we are increasing the intensity so a couple of days of recovery walking are in order.

Good luck to everyone doing the Princess, that sounds fun, for our team princesses. I think Mike would agree we need a Warrrior Dash or something for guys to do down there. Maybe a marathon but you have to wreastle Mickey and Goofy at mile 13.

Back in my running days we had interservice competitions that were kinda like the Ecco Challenge races where we got dirty along the way. We did those against other NATO nations and they were called Peace Keeper Challenge. Has it really been over 30 years since I did one of those. EEEK!

Have a magical day and remember to get your share of that magic that's all around us. You need only have the courage to reach out for it.

Dave:hippie:

I did it! I got up this morning and ran my last 7 miles so I ran 30 miles!

Congrats mike on your 5k!

Elizabeth safe travels and good luck! Can't wait to hear report.

The show I'm seeing the view is live so will be on Monday at 11 am.

Good morning team. Boy am I glad it's the weekend!

Kimberely: Great job getting 30 in! I can watch for about 45 minutes on Monday, so maybe I'll see you. Since you have your picture as your avatar, I might even recognize you!

Mike: Great pace. Good job on the 5k!
Oh man, getting up in the middle of the night to shovel! We had that kind of snow last winter, and as much as I love snow, I was getting a little sick of it.

Dave: Yes, recovery is always important to stay injury free (not that I would know what that feels like right now).

Elizabeth: Enjoy your trip!

Rick: How much snow did you get? It would have to be alot for me not to just move the cars and get out the snowblower! Actually, I'm a weirdo that looks at snowshoveling as a great workout.

AFM: My friends called me and asked if we could walk today, so I'll get 3.5 in with them, then Harrison and I have a 3.5 mile run scheduled. He's been coughing a lot, so we'll go but just take it easy. We were also going to go ice skating today, but think we'll skip that. I think his run is more important.
