Hakuna Matata - Fantastic in February

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Dave~ Great job on the weightloss! You are becoming a slim, trim machine!

Kimberly~ We are looking at doing the Worcester full marathon, there is also a half. I believe the date is June 3rd. We will be flying into Boston the weekend before and staying at the MIL's in Oxford. I'm looking to cross off another state from my 50 states list, but the website for the race is lacking alot of info. (Like the time limit for finishing the race!)

Vicky~ You will always be Bunnyfoo! I just feel funny when I don't know someones real name on here. Especially when I meet them in person at a race.

Kim~ I remember when Mike bought the training shirt for next years Mickey. Tell him a deal is a deal! ;) If you don't take my free arm, I'll have to offer it to Vicky! :goodvibes

AFM~ I ran last Thursday on the TM at the gym and it felt really good. I felt like I was getting my stride back and actually accomplished something. We spent the weekend cleaning our bedroom and boxing up a ton of stuff for storage. Our house is small so its become a mini apartment. We are going old shcool and setting up a Soloflex so I can work on my arms a bit. (Remember those?) Rubber bands and all!
Currently, I'm home sick with the flu or something like it. Its been going around our workplace. I may call in sick tonight. Robert is off school today fot the holiday and is bouncing off the walls, so no rest for me!

Have a great day! - Mike :cool2:

Rick & Dave - Congrats on the weight going in the right direction.

I've been getting a bit frustrated lately with my lack of progression on that front. I'm hoping now that I'm back on a regular running schedule that will soon change.

Last weeks interval run tests went well. Right now I can keep the treadmill at a 5mph pace for a 1/4 mile. We'll see if I can start lengthening that pace out some.

Then Saturday I did a steady run just slightly faster than my old normal of 4.0 mph. I bumped it to a mighty 4.1!! My legs have been fine with these new workouts, so I'm going to continue with this pattern with the variations on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a steady pace on Saturdays.

I was looking at Amazon, thinking of picking up a beginners Yoga DVD when I order my new set of resistance bands. I really need to try something to see if I can loosen up, especially in my upper back and neck/shoulder area. The Doctor has suggested it as she would like to see me rely less and less on the muscle relaxers that I tend to need every few months.

If the long range weather forecasts hold up, I'll be looking forward to begin running outside again here in the next couple of weeks. I've tried to run when it's colder than 50 out, but my lungs just burn so bad for days afterwards.

Speaking of expense, those Brooks shoes on clearance at Running Warehouse are still taunting me...

Kipp get the shoes if they are right for you. Do you need advice on finding the proper shoe for you?

Thanks :)

We have a running shop I go to locally called Bluemile. A previous running store had me in some major correction type shoes, the Brooks Addiction. They had me go down a notch to the Adreneline and that was a HUGE improvement. They also suggested the Asics that I got once I ran through the tread (literally) of the 1st pair of Adrenelines.

The same family of shoe, the Brooks Trance is on deep discount at over 1/2 off. So far, I like the fit of the Brooks line of shoes better than the Asics, so I'm just really looking hard at those on sale. Maybe if I convince myself that they're an early B-day present, it'll make it easier to talk myself into it.

Morning all! I've done two days of 6.5 miles in a row so feeling good! Hope all are well!

Kipp - I have to get new shoes too - mine have the tread worn on them and I've had them since may of last year. I'm having a tough time giving them up though bc they are uber comfortable and I have an emotional attachment to them since they were the shoes I started running with and have run all my races with. I know it's silly, but I don't want to give them up!

Mike - June is a bit early for me to do a full marathon and I already have a couple 1/2 marathons in for the year, so I think I will pass. I really would love to find a 25k or 30k run to do between april and october when I do my first full to get myself in the groove of running longer distances but am coming up with nothing.

Elizabeth - good luck and know our good thoughts and karma are directed your way!

RunRookie - I agree it's cheaper than hockey which my four year old is just getting into! Yeesh that's expensive and it's only the beginning!

Bunnyfoo - you're totally right about the grab bags - they are getting skimpy!

Good day all around. Started with 9 hours of sleep, then a super workout: 1.5 mile warm up then 4 miles race walking in 44:27. I concentrated today on staying focused on my technique.

Now I'm enjoying an organic Chicken Breast with a plate of steamed veggies. After lunch it will be time for my pre work nap.

Tomorrow is my weekly 10 miler with my race walking group, it's going to be an easy workout just brisk distance but no sprints in the last 3 miles. Every other week will be hell week!

I have been practicing staying focused and it's helping me hold a good pace without as much effort. Doing each lap as though it were the last one helps.

Dave:hippie:

I was going to say Happy Monday but it's really Tuesday  The perils of a three day weekend!

Dave - Good job on the mileage this morning! Sounds like a healthy lunch you have there. How do you season your chicken? I'm always looking for some new ideas :)

Kimberley - That's awesome you were able to get in another day of a 6.5 miler! Are you shooting for three :) You could take the shoelaces off your current shoes and transfer them to the new pair. That way you'll always have part of the original shoes with you! You want to be careful not to put too many miles on a single pair of shoes.

Kipp - Does your running store let you take the shoes and try them on a TM? My store lets us do that and if they don't work out, we can return them. We just can't run with them outdoors.

Mike - You know it's funny when I first started going to the WISH meets, people would come up and say "Hi Bunny!" and I'd actually answer back LOL Oh well, if your other arm is taken... I suppose I'll have to find some other hot guy to hang out with!

Lots of pixiedust: for you! Hope you're feeling better today! The flu is no fun. Do you get a flu shot in the winter?

Elizabeth - pixiedust: How are you feeling today? When do you leave for WDW?

AFM - I'm eating healthy today. I had my protein shake for breakfast and for lunch I made tuna with olive oil, cilantro, lemon juice and some other spices. It's not the same as adding mayo in but I think it's probably healthier. I've also got a beef and veggie soup, some celery sticks and an apple. I didn't have a chance to plan dinner yet

It's a rest day so I'm going to do some shopping tonight and to run a few errands. Tomorrow I'm going to do a training session with my chiropractor so I'm looking forward to that!

pixiedust: for everyone who needs some!

Have a great day :wave2:

Hi, team,

Mike: Feel better!

Kipp: Hope you get outside for training soon. I don't like running in the cold. That is why all my races are at Disney. Well, that is one of the reasons....

Vicky: I leave on Saturday morning at 7:00 AM. My oldest is in a musical on Friday evening so I cant' miss that. I really think the secret to healthy eating is the pre-planning. Sounds like you've done a fantastic job with it!

AFM: Still in pain but I continue to work on my PT exercises. My doctor had no problems with me taking my nsaids the day of the race but my PT said to stop the day before so that is what I'll do. I've finally given up on being pain-free and back to running for Sunday. It's time to think of the fun I'll have along the course. I'm going to go with the mindset that I finish this one upright. I may need to borrow Dave's Grrr to get me through it but I'm going to finish!

Well, I am no "Mike" but I have a free arm. :lmao:

I found a few articles that shed some light on this issue.

Hey team!!!!! Hope everyone had a awesome weekend.

As usual with me a quick check in been a busy day, annual physical all appears to be OK but DR confirmed that my leg issues is IT and has recommended I go to physio. Also went to the gym for a body scan and measurements for my biggest loser challenge which starts today. I get the print out tomorrow to really look at it but they recommended I lose 39 pds which is basically where I was aiming.

Thanks Mike and Rick for the free arms:grouphug: I am sure Mike will come he has this I am tired of disney thing every so often but now he is saying he wants to go but will do the half.:grouphug::grouphug: I am still aiming for dopey and won't change that until it is time to register and that is when I have to make the final decision.

Rick and Dave WTG on the weight loss you guys are going to disappear before we get to see you again in january...or in Ricks case will see you in July!!!

Hi to everyone else and I did read everything just have to run need to make my lunch for tomorrow.

Have a awesome day!!!!

Morning all! Bunny, I did do another 6.5 this morning so I'm on a roll! I'm hoping to get in 30 miles this week. and that is an AWESOME idea about the shoelaces. I'm totally going to do that!

Has anyone done the zombie races? they are only a 5k (never thought I would EVER say that) but look like a ton of fun. I'm considering the one in boston in may or baltimore in october.

Well the easy day turned out to be a hard day. Note to self, never razz your coach when he's making up the workout plans for the day!

We did 6.5 miles at a good pace to warm up then 3 miles of 30/30. 30 sec sprint, 30 sec normal pace and repeat for 3 miles. Sprint was averaging 10:30 mpm pace and normal just under 12:00 min per mile pace.

Now, lunch, nap and off to work.

Have a magical day y'all.

Hi team. I'm back. I didn't realize how long it had been until I tried to read the 5 pages of posts since I was last on here! Yikes! I won't even attempt to catch up. Hopefully, you guys will just let me jump back in. It sounds like everyone is doing great, except Elizabeth. I'll definitely send you some encouraging emails on Sunday. What time does the race start?

AFM: I haven't been on here because I've been down in the dumps. I don't feel like much of a runner right now and am struggling mentally. I managed to heal from the torn calf. Then, I healed from the ITBand. Then, the calf started hurting again. Now, I think I have stress fractures in my feet! And, I truly don't know how, considering these other injuries have kept me from the serious distance that I'm used to. So, I'm frustrated and scared that I'm not going to ever get my distance back up again.

In other news, school's great. The family's great. My weight is still up, but we have a $100 challenge in our house now. I need to lose 10, Harrison 15 and Frank needs 30. Whoever reaches their goal first, gets the prize. Of course, Frank and I won't take money from Harrison. But, we will take extra chores. ;)

Harrison and I went snow tubing the other day. We had so much fun. It's just like sledding, except you use an inflatable tube, there are lanes, and you can make chains of up to 20 tubes to get some serious speed. We had a great time, but my feet were killing me after 2 hours. I think I'd like to do it again some time.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Tandy, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Massage those feet several times a day, roll a golf ball or a bottle, keep doing it regularly. You will recover and the sooner you believe it the sooner it'll happen. I have a bad left achellies, tight calves and feet that get sore spots easily.

I just need some spring and summer heat. I've been training hard all winter, especially since I returned from Disney. I've made amazing gains in fitness, speed and weight loss. If an old chap like me can do it a young warrior princess can do it also.

Dave:hippie:

Well, Running Warehouse dropped the clearance price on those Brooks by a few more dollars.

... They'll be here Monday. :rolleyes1

Hi team! Got back from the gym a while ago and am just taking a break from getting stuff prepped for tomorrow.

Kipp - Congrats on the new shoes! Fingers crossed that they work out for you! And that's awesome that you got them on sale!

Dave - You're an inspiration to us all!

Tandy - I feel for you because I'm injury prone myself! Sometimes there isn't much you can do but wait it out. Have you been to see a physio? They might be able to suggest some rehab exercises that will help out. Sometimes you can even go to the local schools and they have student clinic days. I live near a chiropractic college and a massage school and the students there have days where they will see patients/clients.

I love the idea of the $100 bet! If you win, what are you going to spend the money on?

Kimberley - I still have my second pair of running shoes that I still wear as gym shoes but even they've totally lost cushioning (which is not a bad thing for the gym) but I think it's time to retire them. That's where I got the idea for the shoelaces LOL

And awesome job with another 6.5 miler! You're really motoring!

I have't done the zombie run before - they don't have any Canadian cities :( But they look like so much fun! If you do one, let us know!

Rick - Aww! If you have a free arm, I'm there! I had so much fun hanging out with you, Kristie and Ryan in January! Can't wait until Chicago!

AFM - I did a workout with my chiropractor tonight. It's neat to see the different exercises and methods the trainers use. My Monday night trainer uses weights - dumb bells, bars etc. with his exercises and usually does them in a circuit. My chiro does mostly body weight exercises but doesn't do them in a circuit.

I had planned to run for 30 minutes after training but I'm feeling a bit under the weather. I feel like I'm starting a cold because my nose is running a bit and my throat is scratchy. So I loaded up on vitamin C, oil of oregano, rinsed with salt water and Listerine and am drinking lots of water. Hopefully, whatever it is will be gone soon.

My eating has been going pretty well for the past three days. I'm keeping the carbs to a minimum and the only sugar has been from fruit. I stayed strong and resisted having dessert for two days. Yay!

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Happy Thursday, everyone,

Kim: Pixie dust for you!

Kipp: Congrats on the new shoes! Let us know how they work out.

Rick: Thanks for the NSAID links, particularly the first one that suggests recovery is slowed with their use. I'm just packing Tylenol and BioFreeze for the race.

Tandy: Glad you joined us again. I know what it feels like to post on here when you aren't able to run. I second what Vicky said about the clinics. I believe that this past month in PT has made me a better runner. Well, I will be a better runner when I'm back to it! ;) Hang in there, you'll get your distance back. Glad to read that everything else is going well. The Princess starts at 5:45 so I'll probably cross the start right at 6:00 as I am in Corral C. Hope to finish as close to 3 hours as I possibly can with this injury and then I'm heading back to POFQ and the pool!

Dave: great workout, as usual!

AFM: I'm going to try to run a bit this afternoon, just to help me feel mentally ready for the race. Plus I have to pack. I plan to get that done this morning before work. 3 days and counting!

I'm resting today form the hard 10 miler yesterday. I'll still do some stretching and light calisthenics anyway. Those hard 10 milers are really making me faster and tougher. We are traveling to Louisville on Mar 31st for the Papa John's 10 miler, it's a very tough race with the first few miles up a narley hill. If anyone did the old course of the Ky Derby half marathon it's the same course and ends with a trip around the horse track.

Tandy, how did yesterday go? That's great that you have a family weight loss event going. You can have fun planning healthy dinners.

I have lost 3 inches off my waist and fortunately I have clothes form my slimmer days waiting. I'm in the last hole of my 36 belt so time to get out a 34 belt, darn the bad luck.

My eating yesterday for lunch was a bit of a reward and to get it out of the fridge. I had one frozen cheese pizza left and I put a bunch of fresh organic chicken on it and some BBQ sauce and made a BBQ Chicken Pizza, YUMMMM!

Have a magical day y'all.
