From the CDC:The CDC was also said that there's about about 2% chance of passing the virus on to someone else if you come into "close contact" with them, but you'd still be passing them the "cold-adapted" virus that can't live past your nose.

Thank you so much! Interesting info...and good news, too! :thumbsup2

The flu has already passed through these parts and the shot/ mist wasn't available yet. I don't see any point now. I wasn't convinced the shot was worth it anyway. i had several friends get the mist and they got just as sick as those friends who got the flu.

Your daughter's doctor is right. Around 30% of cases do NOT present with fever. I am really amazed that doctors are not more up to date. I personally know several people who had confirmed cases that did not have fevers. Of course, most of the hospitalized cases have had fevers, so if you don't, that is a good sign.

Not so...I posted some really good research that was done, and the 30% WAS for vented ICU patients who eventually DIED. The thought is that either fever has NO correlation at all to how sick you are/will be, or that waaaaaaaaay more than 30% have no fever (but aren't counted because they weren't tested, since they never came to the dr.)

That's interesting (and scary)! The study I read said that 90something% of hospitalized cases had fevers and that 30% or more of non-hospitalized cases did not. Perhaps some of the hospitalized cases could have developed fever later in their illness, therefore they were included in the fever group?

I was told by my kids' pediatrician that the study with the 90% was well publicized, which led to the misunderstanding that swine flu HAS to have a fever. Doctors saw the 90% and assumed that all patients would have fevers when, in fact, the study was of hospitalized cases and not others. It has taken a while for that confusion to subside, and as we have seen in posts here, not all doctors have come to the realization that you don't have to have a fever to have swine flu.

My 8 year old son had the shot on Tuesday (he is asthmatic). My pediatrician would not vaccinate my 2 year old or 5 year old with either mist or shot (not high risk enough for his limited vaccine supply). So, my younger two are getting the mist from my own primary care physician today. The flu is not widespread in my area yet, in fact I don't personally know anyone who has had it - so we're lucky as far as timing goes. No side effects for my son from the shot - he developed a fever and sore throat yesterday but turned out positive for strep. Go figure. We have a lot going on - considering we leave for Disney in 7 days!

So I have a few questions...

Does anyone know the chances are of getting "sick" from the H1N1 FluMist vaccine? I know it says you may have a "very mild case", but what is the likelihood that you'll be symptomatic?

My 2 teens got it 3 days ago and had no side effects whatsoever. In fact, they forgot they got it! Same with the other 3 kids who I know got it early this week.

HEre is a link I put up a few days ago. Has some great information. it isn't the peer-reviewed study I had run across, but I can't find that right now. Lots of the info is the same, though. http://www.recombinomics.com/News/08210902/H1N1_Fever_NOT.html

Just wanted to post that we are over 24 hours post-vaccine (Mist) and all is well! DD is feeling fine and no reports of side effects (so far). The ironic thing is that DH has strep and I feel like my head is about to explode, but better us than the kids.

My DD will be 3 in November. She got the regular flu mist at the end of August. Can she get the H1N1 mist if it becomes available next week? I heard something if you have the regular flu mist you can't get the other in a mist. Anyone know?

As long as 4 weeks have passed (as is the case for you), she can get the mist form.

I just wish the shots would become more readily available. Over 100 kids in the United States have already died and the flu season is just beginning. In addition, over 1,000 people have now died from H1N1 in the U.S.

UPDATE:

DD 5 got the H1N1 mist last Tuesday. A week later, she came home with a sore throat that's turned into a low grade fever, cough, and stuffy nose. I can't help but think the two are connected. We took her to the doctor and she put her on antibiotics in case it was the beginning of an upper respiratory infection. :confused3 She's on day 3 and no real improvement. :sad2:

So I really have to wonder if she doesn't have a mild case of H1N1 from the mist. She's rarely sick, but this is her 2nd day home from school and we're both about to go crazy!
