My boys both got the mist last Saturday. They got their regular flu shot the first week in September. I still have some questions. Can someone help?
1- How long does it take to have immunity? Our school has what seems to be a huge outbreak going on but the H1N1 is being paired with Chicken Pox so we have alot of kids out and a ton of parents sending sick kids to school only to have to come and pick them back up (which is another rant, if your kid has a fever on Tuesday of 103 and you get a call to come pick them up, don't send them back to school on Wednesday with that same fever).
2- The health department said two doses for my boys. Why? Do they not have full immunity until they have both doses or does the one just wear off? What happens if they can get the two doses within 30 days of each other?
3- If someone in your family had the flu and you were given Tamiflu but never actually got the virus can you catch the flu from someone else quickly or does the Tamiflu provide some immunity against the virus for a small amount of time? (This is more of a how does this all work question than something that I'm dealing with here).
4- I heard rumors that the mist has a longer immunity range than the shot. True?
I honestly don't know what to believe anymore because there's so much crap out there it's hard to sort through it to find the facts and at this point I really don't know what is crap and what is fact anyways. I made the decision to give my boys the vaccine but I struggled with this decision more than any other time that I've been faced with a vaccine issue. It has been a source of great stress in our house.

As I left, I was talking to my mom and saying that it doesn't make any sense..what is the point then. So I called the health department in my county and asked . She told me he was "wrong, it does provide some immunity, the booster is exactly what it sounds like..it boosts him up to the correct immunity and will carry him through until next year. " She told me within 10 days or so , he will definitely have some immunity though.

You could just walk around with me and tell me everything is going to be ok..
Thanks for your post..it was helpful ..Maybe you could call my doc and set them all straight??
I am sure there was an easier way to say that..but I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night
Oh I think i am getting a tad delirious now..
